I know it seems like DVDs have taken over when it comes to movies, but I wonder if any of you still have a VCR and watch VHS tapes on it? If you rent movies, is it hard to find them on VHS? I don't think Blockbuster has them at all anymore. If you don't use a VCR to watch movies, when did you stop using one, if you did use one in the first place.

responses and comments:
I still have my VCR and watch old movies on it that I have got on video tape. Although the majority of my movies are on DVD, I still have some on video that I wouldn't ever get rid of. [Charente]
no this is old fation [mshafi]
No I don't watch movies on VCR. they don't even sell them anymire I went to the library and they had a lot of VHS Movies. I have one I just don't have it hook up. [marciascott]
My kids watch VHS tapes all the time. They have probably 150 of them. My daughter is watching one right now actually. I have several VHS tapes that I will watch once in awhile, but not very often. Sometimes late at night when I am myLotting I will pop one in. [lilybug]
I ahve a dvd and vcr combo. I really dont use the vcr much but my son has a lot of kid movies that my sister gave him a few years ago and he still watches those vhs tapes sometimes. I have not seen any vhs at a movie rental store anymore now that you mention it. [my2boys]
We still have a VCR with some movies but we never watch them. I find that they make the VCR's too cheaply now and it really doesn't even do anything for me anymore. We haven't used it for quite a long time. We are now even getting out of DVD's as they are all going Blu Ray. So no more buying just regular DVD's for us anymore it's just Blu Ray. However if we do rent we have to get DVD's. But that is not a problem as I am sure they will be coming out with Blu Ray for renting. [nicholejade]
Analogue (ie,regular tv to an aerial) is being phased out next year in the US,and has already started in the uk,in favour of Digital TV (eg satellite).New Digital Spec TV's are now available, and of the 2 competing DVD Digital standards that were on the Market,Blu-Ray won out.So You'll be seeing more of them on the shelves as time goes on.. [ShepherdSpy]
no my vcr broke a long time ago and even my dvd broke, my son has a dvd drive on his computer and he watches movies sometimes there, but we don't really rent many movies, and we do have a few dvd's in the house. [winterose]
I still have a VCR and watch movies on this. I have about 45 VHS movies that I love to watch. I have old movies and new movies too and I still watching them. I have a DVD as well but why put away my VCR if it is working well and I like my VHS tapes? I agree that now is hard to find other than DVDs. It is the same with CDs and the old vinil. I still having vinil records and listening them. [teka44]
I still have a lot of stuff still on VHS and some even on Beta. I still have machines to play them on. Some I have converted to DVD but only ones that are irreplaceable, like home movies. [nanajanet]
Good idea, to at least convert the home videos. [AmbiePam]
I use a vcr often to record television shows. Also have many movies on vhs and most will never get on DVD. It would cost to much. [Fishmomma]
no. i do not watch film on a vcr..now, they have become extinct as new movies wud be hard to find though i have a vcr, i became curious one day, and try to watch some old cassete, you will not believe it, it got stuck..inside, tried to get it repair. my local eletronic guy told me, u would not be able to repair it now, no one will repair it,,is it true .are they that outdated that no one will even repair them.your view guys [envy99_2000]
I still have a vcr....but it's not hooked up....I have alot of tapes etc that I could play in them...and the grandkids have them too. I keep it upstairs where the little ones play...the dvd player is downstairs on my bigger tv. [jillhill]
Yes, I do Pam. I love my VHS and I find it more reliable than the DVD player. I've gone through 3 DVD players and I still have the same VHS tape player from the early 90s. That tells me that new isn't necessarily better. Though I have to say the DVD movies are much sharper than the VHS movies... but I still find the VHS more reliable over the long haul. [OreoCookie3]
I'm glad that somebody still has a VCR like me. I don't use mine to watch movies or videos but to record videos and movies onto VHS tapes. It is also my only means of setting up my game system to play on my old analog tv. I do have to say that I do have a dvd player though and i do love current technology. I just don't feel the need to get a dvd recorder or TiVo just yet. [drollyboy]
I'm a long way from TiVo! lol [AmbiePam]
i still have vcr in my house. but there is not many video casket to watch.the only casket's i have with me for right now are some marriage videos of my uncle and so. and i don't like to watch them and those things are on the verge to getting selled. but there is no one to buy it from me. evenif some one buy's it , i will only get some thing very low to sayin dollars perhaps 1$-2$ for a vcr. [legend4u]
We still have many VHS tapes, including tapes made of family members - some of whom are no longer with us. We keep a VHS player to watch them. We also have a DVD player, because anything we buy (or rent) are in that format. It is hard to find new VHS tapes to buy or rent, although libraries still have plenty for lending. Eventually we hope to get our family movies copied to DVD format. The regular theatrical movies that we have will eventually get replaced too. By that time, I'm sure that whatever the next recording/formatting method will be out, replacing DVD's. It's hard to keep up...lol. [catdla1]
My kids watch VCR tapes all the time. They have some DVDs too but they have a lot more VHS tapes. We also have some older movies that are still on VHS so we watch them every once in awhile. We don't even have a VCR in our living room anymore though! If we want to watch a VCR tape we have to go into one of the kids rooms! Our family VCR broke and we just never replaced it! [KimJoRoll]
I've been thinking of upgrading to a VCR, AmbiePam, but so far my Reel-to-Reel is serving me well. Although, it is sometimes difficult to get some of the newer movies in this format, for the most part I'm doing okay. I saw The Ghost and Mr. Chicken last week. It was a laugh riot! I've seen all the Herbie movies, too! [Transdisc]
I thought you were going to say The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. Do you really not have a VCR? I can't tell when you're kidding. w00t [AmbiePam]
We use the VCR as well as the DVD player, but we have a combination. We also have a lot of VHS movies.. [SomeCowgirl]
I have to go to a Public Library now to watch VHS tapes cuz my Blockbuster doesn't have movies on VHS anymore. Ya, I do you my VCR to watch VHS tapes and to tape TV shows. [chunijole]
lol no! ppl r movin away! nowaadays they watch it on the BD :D happy lotting and have a nice day! :D [thecrazyjogger]
I'm still using my VCR.. I loove to watch VHS tapes.. But it isn't jus a choice, you know? There's some movies that didn't get to be on DVD.. [bunchistensc510]
I do not personally watch movies on a VCR but many people do. I buy videos and resell them at our local flea market and I have alot of regular customers who come week after week looking for more videos to watch. [Joelabearsmom]
We still watch movies on vcr's I have alot of vhs tapes. I have vcr, dvd combos. You can't find any new movies out on vhs but you can buy alot of the older movies on vhs for really cheap now that dvd is the preferered way to watch. [luvstochat]
I still have a VCR but we mostly use it to tape shows when we can't stay up to late. Every once in a while we watch a tape. [missybear]
We still have videos and a video player, but we also have DVD's and a DVD player. Some day we may get around to replacing all our videos, but it is expensive, considering how many movies we have.. [carmelanirel]
Hey ambie! I still have my two VCR's! But they are pretty much just sitting there collecting dust! I sometime use them to tape General Hospital, but I hardly even to that anymore! Or sometimes there is something on that my boyfriend wants to watch and he is at work or out and I will tape it for him. But, we really aren't big movie watchers right now. And we still haven't gotten around to getting a DVD player yet! We keep talking about it, we just haven't gotten one yet! They are so cheap too! We probably will get one next year since it is time I think! [Opal26]
We still have VCR but we seldom use it. I prepare to watch tapes on VCR's because VHS tapes has a good quality than V CD's....happy [Llonorra22]
I bought VCR/DVD combo's when I bought mine, we have tons of movies that are VHS and I don't intend to get rid of them just because they are not DVD's. Just because DVD's are something newer doesn't mean we throw out all that isn't. My husband's favorite movies are on VHS, does that make me old fashioned, or not up to date on the latest. Having both on one piece of equipement is good cause we can play the old and the new on one player. That is like my camcorder, I had it less than 2 years gave almost $400. for it and was told, oh it is outdated, they have dvd's now that they record on. So what it still does what I need it to do. There will always, be new things that comes out that are better and I guess if you can afford to go out and buy everything new that would be nicem but the way I look at it if it works just as well as the new why waste my money on it. There are too many other things I would like to have to try to keep up with all the new items that comes out. I doubt if Blockbuster handles them anymore. I know I have bought a bunch at yard sales for a quarter a piece. But I will still watch them as long as they play. [bdugas]
Usually we don't use the VCR since we have the good old DVD player. But we have a ton of VHS movies and every once in a while we'll sit there and pull them all out of the cabinet and set aside a stack of them to watch. I just get too impatient with the slow rewinding and fast forwarding. LOL [Katlady2]
I do watch DVDs most of the time. Although, I do have some VHS tapes because there are some tapes you just can't find on DVD for whatever reason. If I do ever find something on DVD, which I have on VHS, I might get rid of the VHS. I don't know. [CRSunrise]
I still have a VCR and I use it from time to time. I don't really rent movies or anything for it, I just watch the ones I have. We have a lot of VHS. And, since I have a little boy, I'm sure we'll be using the VHS to watch the old classic Disney movies here soon! I don't really like the new Disney movies as much... some of them I do, but I really prefer the classics. [coxjamir]
I think the classic Disney movies are definitely better. [AmbiePam]
We can't rent movies on VHS tapes but I use my VCR all the time. I tape tv shows and watch them and sometimes the kids will ask me to tape a movie for them... movies that they want to keep and watch over and over again. I think I use my VCR more than the DVD player. The kids rent and watch movies on the DVD player. In Canada we don't have TIVO, oh how I wish we did. I think we need a dish in order to use one anyway. Well, everything is going to change in 2009 with HD... we think. [patgalca]
Yes I have a VCR, matter of fact I have two and about 200 VCR tapes and on occasion we will watch a movie that is VHS. It is easier to use the DVD's Nowadays since now rewinding and you can skip right to the place you left off in seconds and it is easier to use. But we still use our old VHS tapes. Even if they at times giggle and all. [mtdewgurl74]
I have never used VCR to watch movies. It is very convient to watch something on youtube, isn't it? Have a great day! [hiddenwing]
I have TONS of movies on VHS tapes, but alas my VCR doesn't work well anymore..was hoping to have gotten a new DVD/VCR combo with that extra money, but alas couldn't wing it...of course it might just be the "heads" of it...the video works fine, but no sound...waaaahhhhhhh. I have so many great Christmas specials I've taped over the years and now can't watch them...sniffle...sniffle. Of course it could also be the hookup system I have.....need to fiddle around with it. Nuts I haven't even hooked up my converter for my TV yet to transform the signals to digital yet....been, uh, kind of busy....LOL I do have a lot of DVDs but not as many as my tapes...My very first VCR I got way back in 1983...probably was one of the first people to get one and they were a LOT more expensive then. [pyewacket]
I have a vcr and dvd player in one, but I rarely watch any movies with the vcr. In fact I don't even remember the last time I did. I was glad to see the dvd's come out they take up so much less room. I know soon though they will have one even smaller. In fact of case I believe they already have one that is very much smaller than the dvd, or cd's. It's just not out there yet much for movies. [moondancer]
it is very hard to find CD and DVD taken over the place of VCR's, to my knowledge i have seen VCR casettes and players very long time back [rajesha20]
We still have a VCR but I have never really been able to use it. My partner has some videos that he still watches but I prefer DVDs because they are easier. I think I stopped watching videos about5 years ago. I'd had one of those TV/VCR things which my ex got when we split and I don't think I have used VHS since then! [pumpkinjam]
yes we do. hubby still have VCR tapes from those days he used to record TV shows and sometimes he watched it. we still buy VCRs from video stores here if they don't have them in DVD. I like Rogers video for their selections. [LittleMel]
Although I bought a DVD recorder, there was nothing wrong with my VCR and I have around 100 films on tape, so I still use it, and I have it wired up to record too, so I can record other programs whilst watching or recording on my DVD... I don't know how long the VCR will last though, but it's still going strong.. .Derek [derek_a]
I still have a VCR it is currently unplugged and I don't use it anymore. [ronaldinu]
HI Ambiepam: Yep I still have my VCR, I use it to record my tv shows mostly, my soaps my other shows of a night, I have a DVD/VCR combo too, I rarely get to rent any movies, no extra $$money$$ ever and if I do its a DVD, but I still have a couple of old VHS movies too that I've not parted with (G)!! Happy Holidays! [dreamweaverjan]
Strickly DVD's, I don't even own a VCR. Do they still sell VCR's...? [Chocobear]
i still have a VCR and also have some old movies...i have recorded many movies and there are some wedding and birthday tapes that we have...so sometimes in mood we watch them and refresh our memories.. ya now a days DVD's are everywhere..i dont have a DVD player but i watch movies in my PC so can use DVD's..me just waiting to earn some extra so i can use it in my gadgets... thanks happy mylotting [idcoder]
not at all cmon these days VCR's movies are not easily available.Although we still have VCR but DVD's are v common even the CD's.Now everybody has a computer so there is no need of VCR.and i we rent a VCR cassette its cost is same as that of one CD.so why toget VCR cassettes? [goodtogo]
My mom actually was watching a movie on her VCR tonight. I remember when DVD's first came out she said she would never have a DVD player because the DVD's get scratched to easily. But of course she had to change that additude eventually because like you said you cannot find VHS tapes anymore. But we still have plenty of VHS that we can watch on our VCR. As long as the VCR is working we will continue to watch them. But once it breaks one day I guess that will be the end of that because you won't find another VCR. [marcialoyd]
yeah of course .i watch in vcds but it is very rare ,most oftenly i use dvd only.last time i used is on 25th last month [sanapal_bhar]
I still use my vcr on a regular basis to either watch movies or to record programs & movies on tv for later viewing. I do own a dvd player but find that I prefer my vhs to dvd, they don't get wrecked as easy. [earthiren]
We still have our VHS player. WE have the rabbit ears hooked up to it and go through it to watch TV. We do sometime watch an old VHS that we have gotten before DVDs. WE do have a DVD player but it is just the cheap player. I suppose soon we will have to get a better one and one that we can record some of the TV programs on. [deebomb]
hi AmbiePamhappy, i still have VCR but it not working, i stoppped watching in VCR ten years ago. [hitejam89]
we do still have a lot of vhs tapes and watch them several times a week. (we do not get tv so rely on dvd and vhs for viewing) I have about 200 that need dusting off today, I cleared them off the open racks the other day - what a job. the ones in the closed cabinets do not need dusting at all.... [Modestah]
hey do u have vcr cleaner...its really useful many old muvs dont works well ( stops in betw , error or pauses in betw) but u just need to insert tht vcr cleaner n it makes sure ur vcr is back to factory condition !!!! vcr cleaner is just like a vcr cassette [chipatil]
i stil have my VCR but i dont watch anything on it. First of all the print is not that good as compared to a print of a CD. Then forward and rewind is so slow on a video cassette. Its kind of a antique piece kept under my TV trolley. [rizzu87]
I still have my VHS tapes, but my VCR broke awhile back. I have always intended on getting one of those DVD/VHS combos....but notice now they are not around as much...so all my tapes I was collecting of George Cooney movies and all my favorites well I guess I gotta find them on DVD...andmaybe place these in a ayrd sale.... we just talking abut this at work about how the VHS is much like the 8 track.... [taface412]
I still have a lot of my VHS tapes, but do not watch them anymore. I sold a lot of them on ebay and still have the ones that were my favorites. I have a DVD/VCR combo so I can watch both. All of the new movies that I buy are on DVD. [sweetbabyjane]
ya i still have my old panasonic vxr player... trust me vcr is still kool... i still see muv which i had shot yrs ago....its fr8 fun...atleast better than seein dvds on comp... [chipatil]
I have preferred VHS to DVD for a long time. I find that they survive longer, especially if you're like me and don't end up putting the movies back into their cases. Of course, they aren't like the digitally remastered videos that are coming out, but they're classics, and I've never had cable tv in my room so VHS have always been there for me to kill some time! I was given a VHS/DVD player and the VHS player has outlived the DVD player. I do not think I will ever stop using them, until I forcably have to. [Averiex]
We still have a working VCR in the basement, and my wife has a lot of exercise tapes she still likes to play. We also have a handful of movies. If ever there are tornado warnings we will all go down in the basement and watch one of the movies. The TV is not hooked up to cable so it can only be used for games and watching the VCR, we also have a lot of family movies on VHS tapes. [thedaddym]
I still have a VCR, but I don't remember the last time I used it to watch a movie. Sometimes I'll still use my exercise videos in it. I have a bunch of VHS tapes, which I'm not against watching again--I just haven't had the time. I also haven't looked for any VHS tapes for the last few years. The only time I ever see them is at garage sales. [nerdytina]
AmbiePam, Yes I still watch on my vcr. That is all I have!! I think I must be the only one that dosent have a dvd player or any dvd's. I can't afford to buy one. I would sure like one though there are so many dvds I want to buy but I can't. I don't rent anymore cause I usually dont have the money. So I keep taping movies on my vhs tapes! [lagirl1966]
I still have a VCR and in the summer i go down to my basement and watch my old movies - its cooler down there and thats the only time these days that i use it. [saundyl]
I still watch VCR tapes, cuz I'm retro that way. It's fun being retro! [kasouyumi]
I have a few VCR's in my house still. And we still use them. I have a small rental place I go to to rent my movies and they rent out the tapes at 7 movies for $7.00 for 7 nights. So I figure that is pretty cheap and so I still rent them and still use my VCR's to watch them. I also have a DVD player and sometimes have to rent a movie on DVD because it is a newer movie and it doesn't come out on tape. I don't rent a lot of movies any more, not as many as I used to, now because I have cable where as before I lived in my motor home and didn't have cable. I used to rent about 28 movies a week and now I only rent 7 movies a week. So the difference in money is about what I am paying for my cable hook-up every month. Alrighty then, talk to you later my friend, Have a good mylotting day, Chris [chrislotz]
It has been a while i have seen my VCR and used it. But you have freshened the memories of my childhood when we used to watch movies on VCR, but its gone now. Everything has to follow he change and rightly so. [ashishldh]
I still use a vcr because some good movies that r really old u just cant find on dvd. so i have my dvd player n my vcr for them old movies. just last year i tried to find backdraft on dvd but couldnt find it anywhere. so i keep my vcr for my kids too. alot of my carton when i was young they still watch n a bunch of them arent on dvd either. so i guess we all use the vcr sometimes. [lilcreme]
i remembered the last time watched a film using VCR was year 2000. [carlosdacanay]
Not only do I still have a VCR, but I just recently purchased a vcr/dvd combo in order to view both. I have an equal amount of both currently, but most of my favorites and all of my Star Trek movie are on VHS. I'm hard pressed to get rid of those and I will play them until they play no more! [PrincessArlene]
My parents gave me their VCR/DVD combon last year, but all of a sudden my VCR part quit working. I was disappointed. [AmbiePam]
Yes, we still watch VCR movies. Because we just bought a VCR from yard sale a couple weeks ago. We still had VCr movies from before DVd were invented and became popular. I remember before there were VCR or DVD player's. Oh God, that means I am getting old!! [rusty2rusty]
Nah, not old yet. : ) [AmbiePam]
we never did.from the ebgiining we watch dvdhappy. [bombshell]
I still have a couple movies here at home that are vhs. I watch them very seldom. Sometimes if I get one of those free kids movies from the rental store it will be in vhs form. Otherwise I usually go with dvd's from netflix. [messageme]
I still watch VCR on my old TV in the kitchen. I can stand there and chop vegetables and watch an old movie, it's awesome! [gttlrs]
happy I still have mine and have many movies that I still watch on vcr but I also have a dvd player too. I use both of them. I will always keep it because of the collection of movies that I have built up. [eaforeman6]
About half our movies are still on VHS tapes so we do still watch things on the VCR. Plus, we still tape our favorite shows the old fashioned way. No DVD recorder or TIVO in this house. [srhelmer]
Hello AmbiePam. I don't have a VCR, but a DVD player. But I seldom watch DVD on DVD player. I usually watch TV plays and movies instead. Take care. [williamjisir]
i still have a VCR with me but most probably it wont be in working condition since i've stopped using it ever since the advent of CDs....I think i stopped using one like atleast 5 yrs ago....Its quite difficult to get cassettes now a days...I dont think they even release cassettes now....but we havent thrown away the VCR yet....Its just there like some kind of an antique or a show piece....once after 2 yrs or so tht we stopped using the VCR, i tried to watch an old cassette of my first holy communion, but it wasnt working...so i converted tht cassette into a CD....So guess we can say tht VCRs & cassettes r practically extinct like tape recorders r now..... [jismol]
yes, we still have VCR tapes, but I mostly don't watch a lot of movies unless I'm at my client's and then we've been mostly watching them on DVDs [ElicBxn]
Yes. I have a vhs/dvd combo player. you're right. Blockbuster doesnt have them.I still have a lot of old vhs movies I got a long time ago before dvd players plus I still buy vhs at yardsales and stuff. Now people are using those dumb blu-rays. I'm never gonna switch to those. pointless. what do u think about them? [_sketch_]
A ripoff. I dunno. I guess they are supposed to have better quality, but I've seen them and it looks and sounds just the same to me. [_sketch_]
I still have old television episodes and programs that I taped a long time ago and watch them every now and then. I don't use the VCR to watch current movies but I do like to watch the old movies I have laying around my house. [mishastar]
Yep, I still use VCRs. Got a huge shelf filled with VHS tapes and they're all classic movies like Lion King and all that you'd sit down and watch with your family, so whenever a situation like that arises, it's the VCR that over-rules the DvD player. Also, my Handicam records to VHS (indirectly) and that's another reason we use VHS tapes; to watch home videos. Besides that, though, every new movie that comes into the house is on DVD. VHS tapes just get so fuzzy over time. My Star Wars tape leaves my eyes in tears just halfway through xD [thehuntedfuzz]
i am not currently using the VHS to view the movies i was watching the movies on the VCR when i was a small kid i think it had been ten long years after i stopped watching the movies on it now a days i dont prefer even watching the movies on the VCD too because i am watching everything on my pc itself [thedreamer09]
I still have my VCR and watch my movies on it- I don't rent movies anymore. and when I do buy it is usually DVD -but I like to rewatch my movies and so many are on VHS. [minx267]
LoL! ~ I still own a VCR, and still own movies on VHS, but I do not use either of them. The new technology has overridden the previous and now I do not look back. Mostly everyone has phased the VHS's out as well. Blockbuster doesn't rent the VHS's anymore, but they do sale them for dirt cheap prices. I stopped using VHS around 2 to 3 years ago. [hdjohnson]
actually now a days very few people used to watch movies on vcr and i am one of them.as per the zamana is changing at a drastic rate most of the people have cd and dvd payers at thier home and watch movies on them. i used to see most the movies on cd player but few movies that are quite old i see them on vcr.... [arauf487]
Well, we still have our DVD/VCR combo, and do occassionally from time to time, watch one of our movies that is on VHS. We have been trying to slowly update our favorites of movies to DVD though as their are no VCR's even to be found, and everyone has quit making them, and offering them for rent, etc. as well. So I guess these have gone the way of Cassettes, etc. as well. [KrauseHome]
I never watch videos on the VCR anymore. [kellys3ps]
I grew up with DVDs, so i never watched VCR tapes (only when i was a youngin') [Brettdog]
we have a vcr and a dvd player and I love vhs tapes. You can find them at yard sales and thrift stores for next to nothing. We have a huge vhs library. 5 8 foot tall shelfs in our guest room that are stuffed to over flowing with vhs tapes!! [sweetpeasmom]
its handy when you have to record any tv programmes i owned one but its not working now. I need a new one. I still have VHS tapes which are catchin fungus. [sadatboy]
It seems outdated I know, but we still watch movies on VCR. Usually its movie and popcorn together, cosy and curled up. Sometimes I prefer it that way tahn going out and watching a movie big screen. Even though its more exciting and you get to atleast go out of the house for a change, but VCR movie is more homely. My son has the DVD Player monopolised so we get to watch on the VCR only..:) [sweeety]
That sounds like it, the parents get the second best. lol [AmbiePam]
We still watch VCR movies. They are ones we have here. I think in stores VCr tapes can't be found anymore. We have several but its from years back where we purchased them. Digital has definitely taken over. [SuzyQ12]
Yes, we still have a couple VCR's and a bunch of VHS movies for them. Mostly the kids watch their Barney tapes on them though. I am not going to throw them out just because they are not made any more. I figure we will just use them until they wear out. Happy mylotting!! ninja [soyporteno]
Yes, we still watch movies on the VCR! We still have 4 VCR's hooked up to four of our five televisions and we watch old stuff on them from time to time. I mostly use mine for recording shows that I want to watch later. I still don't have a DVR yet so that is my only option other than watching it when it comes on. rolleyes My children use their VCR for watching about the 200 VHS tapes they have. So, all of their Barney the Dinosaur, Dora the Explorer, Wiggles, Bob the Builder, Pokemon, and Barbie VHS tapes are almost constantly running in their bedrooms! lol I figure we will just use them until they eventually wear out or break. And they do have DVD's also, but I prefer the VHS tapes because my children have a tendency to scratch up the DVD's something awful. Have a great day and happy myLotting!!! happy [schulzie]
Myself, I love the convience of DVDs, but yes, I still watch VHS movies as I have hundreds of them, which includes a huge Disney collection. When I rent movies, it's from Netflix and I only rent DVDs. As far as I know, they only offer DVDs, probably because they're easier to ship, and they offer watching movies online with membership as well. Boy, when technology changes, it does it in a huge sweep, lol. Happy Holidays! [KingDalt777]
It's hard to get find a store with VHS tapes nowadays. I could still remember those days where I went to my cousin's house to watch tapes. God, I missed those days so much and the little car shaped tape rewinder. [nickwong56]
Oh yes, I had a car shaped tape rewinder too! [AmbiePam]
I do still have a vcr player, but it has been a very long time since I have watched a vhs tape. Though where I work prn the kids there watch vhs movies all the time. The selection is very small so many of them I have seen numerous times. [terri0824]
hi there AmbiePam! in my personal case, although i don't have a VCR anymore, my dad still keeps his VHS player, and it still works! he has a collection of VHS tapes in the den, but i have no idea if they are still working. he also has a still-working Sony Betamax player and a handful of Betamax tapes. and, like the VHS player, i also have no idea if the tapes still work. it would be great if those tapes are still working, especially my favourite Disney, Terry Toons and Mighty Mouse tapes back when I was still a kid! =) maybe i'll ask my dad to try playing those old tapes. he's currently too engrossed with his DVD system. as for rental stores, here in the philippines, i can't find any rental store that rents VHS or Beta tapes, or probably because they're in a corner or something. i'll let you know when i find a shoppe that sells or rents out VHS or Betamax tapes. =) thanks and more power to you! =) [mazdakid]
I only use my VCR for playing old home videos..Even some of those I have converted to DVD..So rarely do I use the VCR.. [drvikramsamal]
I own a few vcr that I have not replaced or copied to dvd yet, so we do still watch them. But it is very rarely that we do that now. I agree it is almost impossible to find them anywhere these days. Even our little local rental places are getting rid of them. I have to admit the dvd is much easer to store and you can store many more of them in a smaller area, so I guess I can't blame people. [quinnkl]
We have a VCR, and stopped using it a couple of years ago. I plan to get a blu-ray player and get rid of the vcr since we already have a collection of dvds. I have some vhs still left but will replace them with dvds, but since blu-rays are getting the standard and since we have not got the player yet, we will watch the movies on Tv until we get the blu-ray player. [suspenseful]
We used to have one, but we already gave it to a friend. We're currently living here in Europe and almost no one uses it now but you can still get some VCR and Vhs tapes here for almost nothing. I think it is now considered phased out especially with the emergence of Blue ray players and discs, now that is true high quality video and audio. My boyfriend also has VHS videos but he has already transferred it to DVDs.. you might want to do the same thing with yours, if you want to keep some of your treasured memories forever. [malen168]
yeah i still look at vcr moviess [persona_touch]
No, I don't watch movies on VCR nowdays. Its out of the fashion these day. Technology is growing rapidly. With best quality pictures and sound available on DVD. Who would go for VHS? Around 15 years ago I used to watch movies on VCR. Hope to read your reply soon. Thanks Bye.... [ngty69]
I just pulled the plug on my VCR about 4 months ago. but now, I am contemplating on getting it back on since some of my family events are recorded in good old VHS tapes! I do hope that the present crop of AVI software don't go under or be obsolete on the web as well. [easterangel]
No, not really. I haven't rented movies in a while, but the last time I did I saw that there were some movies in VHS when it came to the older videos that they had there. However, with the new releases they were in DVD or Blue ray only. I do have a couple of VCR's still. One is built into one of the TV's that I have and the other is a VCR/DVD combo player. [sacmom]
I still have a VCR in my lkiving room but we only use it maybe once every other year. I also have one in my van, it gets used a lot. We find kids movies at yard sales or from family members. The kids like the VHS tapes better then DVD's because they can handle them without ruining them. [camomom]
I stopped using vcrs like almost 6 years ago... and that was when i was working abroad... they don't sell vcr's anymore... and the in thing was the dvd... and when i returned home... my mother already got rid of our old vcr because my father brought home his dvd player from abroad... [aseretdd]
I don't even remember the last time we used our VCR. I don't even know where it is! I think my parents threw it away when we moved to our new house a few years ago. I wish we still had it because I want to watch all the Disney movies I used to watch while I was little. [vanonas]
Oh i still use a VCR and watch VHS movies once in awhile. Not often as DVD's are the in thing now and more readily available, I keep the VCR for the odd VHS movie. I got into DVD's a couple of years ago. I find when I got to rent movies it is really hard to get the movie in the VHS format nowadays. I don't think block buster has any VHS movies at all anymore either, in fact, I know they don't. [EvrWonder]
happyThe last time we used VCR was in 1999. That was the time when we watched the video tape of our wedding.lol We stopped after that. [djoyce71]
I still have my VCR and I watch films and shows all the time. It has been a few years since Blockbusters got rid of their VHS tapes. I still have far more VHS than I have DVD's and I don't see it changing anytime soon. [sarahruthbeth22]
i still look at vcrs tapes i have some movies that are dve and vcr and sometimes i like to look at the vcr better then the dvds. [persona_touch]
There are some movies that I still watch on VHS only because I can't find them on DVD yet. I'll probably never find them on DVD. [CRSunrise]
I have a dvd playerthat plays both DVDs and VHS tapes. I have watched some VHS tapes on it. I got a few very cheap ones at a video store that was going out of business and like them. I also have Evita on VHS so I might watch that sometime on that VCR/ DVD player. [snowy22315]
Yes, I still watch movies on my VCR. I have my enter Ma and Pa Kettle Series on a video! [Yestheypayme2dothis]
Until 2003, we didn't own a DVD player, and had all VHS, and one DVD someone bought us. Now, we have all DVD's and one VHS tape. We have a two-in-one DVD/VCR and the VCR part is rarely used but for that VHS on occasion. [UtopianIdealist]
VC What? What in the devil is a VCR... oh wait it is those things they play movies on at school, since they are too cheap to get with the time and order in the new technology... Lol, Just kidding. I used to use VHS tapes when I was teaching. At home I don't even own a DVD player. We watch everything on the X-Box. [glords]
We have a VCR that we keep in our cloest and the only reason is b/c we have our wedding video on a tape but I spoke to my uncle and he said he would transfer it to a DVD which would be really nice. I would still keep the tape of our wedding but will be happy to have it on DVD. I would like my kids to see it one day. They see my wedding pictures and say Mommy princess. [mflower2053]
we still do watch our vhs tapes and in fact I just recently purchased a lot of vhs movies from www.yestervideo.com they had a huge sale with many titles under $3 and free shipping with a minimum purchase. [Modestah]
Our dvd player has a vhs player with it. So we could still watch old tapes on it. Unfortunately there are no more available VHS tapes to watch these days so that player just sits there probably getting jealous with it's twin DVD player.whistle [amoyube1980]
No, I don't. Though I'm still having a working VCR Player, I don't get VHS Video cassettes. [suruchi86]
