Did You Watch A Movie You Thought You Would Not Like But Loved It

I watched "The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button not long ago and to my surprise I loved it. It is the best film I have seen in ages; very well made, great acting and, another surprise, so believable! I did not think I would like it when I first heard about it. I did not think they could make such a story realistic and convincing. I was very pleasantly surprised. Have you watched a movie you thought you would not like but loved it? Please share... happy

My parents and aunt ended up watching Twilight and they expected it to be awful. But they ended up loving it! I have not seen it but there is a lot of hype about it and the young stars. One to watch! [saffrondallas]
Nah, it's only a Hype. I watched it. It lacked emotions. I'd suggest you read the book, it's a novel that's difficult to put into a movie because most of times the characters are 'talking' to themselves. The book is better 100% than the movie. [laydee]

I have not always been a fan of Adam Sandler because I see him as someone who's pretty annoying and his acts are overly repetitive, but when I saw Bedtime Stories (forced by my family) I realized that I was wrong. Though there were still the Adam Sandler 'look' but the story was quite good and he did well with his character there. Perhaps it was because they trimmed his actions (as later I found out when watching HBO and when interviewed he disclosed that fact) they didn't want him to be too naughty because it was, of course, a Disney movie. happy [laydee]

There's one nice movie I watched few years ago which I did not intend to watch because I don't like Jennifer Lopez, it was her movie with Jim Caveziel entitled Angel's eyes. But as the movie went on, I find it very interesting that I stayed on (it was in the dvd anyway and I was watching with my boardmates). It turned out a great movie, I like the story, never mind if I hate J.Lo, it was a very wonderful plot that gave me teary eyes. I even plan to buy a dvd copy of that film and watch it again. yes in my life i hated the trailer of slumdog crorepati. i thought it would be the biggest flop in the history but it was dam good. everything in the movie was exeptional. but the trailers were disasters. [mohak27056666]

Hi Paula, I haven't seen this one yet but have seen it advertised and if I remember rightly it is about someone who grows younger. I will get to see at some stage. The most recent one that suprised me was Sevon Pounds with Will Smith as I was expecting an action type funny movie with him in it but was very moved by the film instead, very inspirational and sad not at all what I expected. Huggles. Ellie :D [ellie333]

Yes, i think there are a lot of movies I didnt wanted to see. For instance, "The Million Dollar baby"...the trailer looked so dark, less lively, slower, and that Old Morgan Freeman...but apparrently, I was wrong at showing judgement, the movie was so realistic, true. I was like 'man! this movie really is cool' [Mohanmojo]

Yes, i have that feeling also about "The Count of Monte Cristo". But after watching the movie, i shared it to my close friends and i even invited them in our house to see it. I can't remember how many times i've watched that movie but the sure thing is i loved it though i thought before that i will not like it. [LionHeart319]

I just watched Braveheart the other day. I never wanted to watch it because I thought it was going to be boring and hard to understand with Scottish and English accents but I really loved it! I even cried at the end. [oraclemv]

Yes, the last movie I watched even at start wasn't sure of if I will like it is "The Wrestler". At start I thought that movie will be about fights and no deep story but it ended with a deep story and less fights. I liked how Mickey Rourke was acting, one of his best roles. [Lindery]

Hmm I watched God knows how many movies and the ones that surprised me were: the life and death of Peter Sellers; subject two; revolver; ok I can't remember any more and I must say I was surprised by one more movie "rottweiler".I was surprised to see that somebody can make such a terrible movie. [grebojsa]

the life and death of Peter Sellers;Subject two and revolver [grebojsa]

Yes, I with a different movie(havent seen Button yet). This was Harold and Kumar go to White Castle. I normally hate these movies. With a passion. But for some odd reason I loved it and could not stop laughing. I even bought it to have at home. [danrunsfast614]

Forgetting Sarah Marshall came out it seems like forever ago. I told myself that this movie did not look like it was going to be good at all. Yet, Netflix had it as a suggestion and it flipping HILARIOUS! I couldn't stop laughing and I rarely say that for any movie. [fillintheblankie]
i love watching horror movies one of the best was wrong turn2 didnt like the first one i started watching online movies about a yr ago seldom turn on my tv now [myst1111]

yes it happen to me a lot lols.... i use to watch movie and we just pick the one that we might think we would love it though we're not sure, but it ended up we like it. some you see in the poster are so intresting but they aren't really once you watched it, some you think its boring but they are so amazing movies. so i think watching movie is a box of chocolate you don't know what you gonna get. [itsme_cha]

I watched the Curious Case of Benjamin Button too I thought I wouldn't like this movie but its the best movie ever. Same with Twilight, I thought this was a movie just geared for teenagers. But I watched it with my daughter and it turned out to be the best too. Have a great day. [patriciaqualls]
Thank you so much for best response you really made my day!!! :) [patriciaqualls]

Few weeks ago, we were debating what film to watch. The options were Marley & me or Benjamin Button. I wanted to watch Marley & me because I have a lab dog too and just want to watch for tyhe sake of having the same breed dog but I know my hubby doens't like those silly movies so we decided to watch Benjamin. I though tI would not like it and felt asleep the whole time. But surprisingly, I like it and it was very interesting movie to show how poepl live backwards, I was amazed by the magic of cosmetic and their performance. It was a very good movie [mermaidivy]

I recently went to the theatre with my best friend and boyfriend to see the movie the Uninvited. Originally I thought I wouldn't like it at all, and it was just okay while watching it. That was, until the end. Then I completely loved it and would really enjoy seeing it again. X3 <3 [XiaoStar]

I've seen a couple of movies that surprised me against my expectations. But many, many years ago, my brother really urged me to go see "The Crow" and back then, someone saying 'You have to see this movie!' was all I needed to not see it. I was always trying to swim against the stream. *g* Anyhow, a couple of years later I did watch it on TV and was completely blown away by it. It still remains one of my favorites. [juleself]

Yah, it happened to me a lot of times. When I watched the movies, and they are good, tendency is I fell in love with it. And crave to watch it all over again. Usually, I go for story and acting. I careless who acts. If the story is superb and the acting as well, then I will surely watch it again. [izathewzia]

YES! The Lord of the Rings! Crazy huh? I thought, why would I watch a movie of a bunch of elves running around in a made up world playing with a silly ring. Boy was I wrong. I rented the first DVD after the second movie was in theaters, and thought I'd give it a shot. After I watched it I just had to see the second. I even told my whole family about it and encouraged them to all watch it. They all felt the same as I did at first...elves and a ring? But afterwards, they couldn't wait for the second movie. And of course by this time I couldn't wait for the 3rd to come out in theaters. All three are on my 'favorite movies of all time' list. [_soonernation_]

I watched American History X. I don't recommend it if you are easily offended or if watching a racially charged movie bothers you. The language is VERY bad. I don't usually like dramas, nor do I like movies that are very controversial, but a friend of ours recommended seeing it and even lent it to us. It was not the feel good movie of the year, but it was a great, eye opener of a movie. It was one of those movies where you sit there and tell yourself, man this is really awful, but at the same time you're rivited because it has such a powerful message. [aprilj1231]

yeah, sure. Like HEROS,I thought this kind of show i would not love but when i saw it,i think im totally love it :) [Maggiezhou0223]

Yes I have, many of them. I am not a very movie person coz these days I find the entire exercise very pocket unfriendly…I mostly give the plexes a miss other than for some kids' movie which my son 'insists' on having the big screen experience. However, on Fridays and Saturdays I do turn on the TV at night to see what's being aired. And like you, I have caught some recent movies, which I really did enjoy a lot. Simple homely stuff or very-well told stories and like. Very recently I watched a very ordinary movie about a handicapped boy who rises above circumstances to get his place on the national team. The unpretentious cast, the simple storyline, the very believable everyday circumstances, the understated dialogues…everything made the move worth watching. [sudiptacallingu]

Recently I saw the movie "Slum Dog Millionaire".Its a nice movie to watch. though its about a slum boy. But in india there are lots . so movie about them and which is doing so well is really remarkable. The movie has captured quite a few awards in BAFTA. And everyoneseye's on the Academy awards. its been nominated in 10 categories so lets see how many can it grab... [sunil_008]

I do not remember the name but there have been a lot of movies wherein I thought I will never watth it but landed up watchind and even liking it a lot. On the contraty, I have waited for a few movies to be watched and they turned out to be a bad show. So dont be influenced by the name dear. [dropofrain]

So many good writers and directors can do this kind of movies. At first you will be boring watching it and after minutes have pass by. Whoa!!! interesting... This movie is good ^_^. I have watched so many movies like this boring at first and some are series. You will be hooked watching it. [limitbreaker]

If I don't think I will enjoy the movie I do not view it at all. So in reality I do not give myself the opportunity to like it at all. LOL I am not really big on movies anyway though. I would rather read a good book. [villageanne]

As a matter of fact I have watched something and I didn't think I would lie it, but the Movie was really good, one thing about the title, it could fool you. you can go by the title. [marciascott]

I really enjoy watching movies and some of my favorites are ones that I actually put off seeing the first time because I didn't think I would like them. I work on the internet a lot and I like to watch movies while I am working so I watch quite a few. I especially like new releases. I accidentally ran across "An Unfinished Life" with Jennifer Lopez, Robert Redford and Morgan Freeman and it has become one of my favorites. Also "Righteous Kill" was a lot better than I thought. One more that I had to watch twice back to back the first time was "Outlander" [cableman67]

That happen to me when I watch The Shindler's list. I did not know very much about Oscar Shindler but I fell in love with the movie and him. [ShellyB]

There are two that come to mind, The Incredibles and Die Hard. Let's take die Hard first. It came out and I saw the trailers but wasn't interested in seeing it . But I tried it when it was on HBO and loved it. And for The Incredibles,I thought it was a animated, for the whole family fare. Whenever they say it is for the whole family, I Know it isn't for me so I stay away. But it came on cable and I tried it and loved it. Unlike most kiddie films, this one was smart, well written. Now I have my own copy. [sarahruthbeth22]

I have had this happen many times in the past. As well as the opposite (thinking I would love it and just hating it). I do watch movies I am not sure about especially if other family members or friends want to see them. My son really wanted to see Pacifier and I thought it looked just dumb. I ended up really enjoying it and getting a kick out of it. Thanks for the info on Benjamin Button. I thought it looked good, but wasn't sure I wanted to really see it. [quinnkl]

The only movie that I can even think of that I didn't think I would care for, but ended up really liking with the movie Napoleon Dynamite. When I had seen the commercials, it just seemed like it was too cheesy. I had seen it one night at my aunt's house since my cousins had the movie, and I thought it was really funny. Comedy movies are my favorite, and I was really surprised at how funny Napoleon Dynamite was to me. It is definitely one that I can watch more than once, unlike most movies. [shyguy_2004]

Well one such movie which come to mind right now is Khosla Ka Ghosla... translated in english the title means the nest of Mr. Khosla. It is a very very small budget movie with only small time Tv actors in it and only one character artist from bollywood movies so i wasnt much interested in watching it but when i got the cd and watched it wow it was so so funny i cudnt stop laughing.. it was such a nice funny movie and quite an interesting plot on land mafia in delhi [agrim94]

Hi there paula! There have been instances in the past wherein I watched a movie I thought I would not like but loved it. Most of these instances were those I had to watch with some friends. I can't recall all the titles but one of these movies was Robinhood: Prince of Thieves (Kevin Costner). Another is Day After Tomorrow which I watched with my boyfriend. I thought I would not like such movie, but I did. [dolce_vita78]

hiya Paula That is one film I've not seen and since you've given it such a good review I may look it up. That's not to say that it will be to my taste, even reknowned critics are just giving their personal taste and review of a movie. There is one movie that sticks out in my mind, but I've not yet added to my collection and that is 'Schindler's list' Of course being a Speilberg and starring Liam Neeson it had to be a hit for me. http://www.auschwitz.dk/listen.html Alice happy [Aliceinwebland]

Somehow even I am not that curious to watch this movie so far.Your discussion has made me to look for the DVD.Thanks Paula. And of course there were some surprisingly good movies I happened to watch without expecting them to be so.There is one I watched last month on HBO.I just could not get the name of the movie from my head.It is about a magician.A great one.I just enjoyed it. [balasri]

I'm sure there are plenty, but the one that comes to mind is Back to the Future. I saw it at a friend's house when we were teens. I really wasn't up to watching a movie, but my friend claimed it was really good, so I ended up watching it and I enjoyed it very much. happy Now that I think about it, Booty Call was another I thought I wouldn't like. My husband rented it some years ago after some female employee recommended it to him. rolleyes LOL It turned out to be hilarious. My husband and I couldn't stop laughing! I'm not a real movie goer, but I've been wanting to see The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button. I think I'll rent it over the weekend, if I remember to do so, that is. LOL Happy mylotting! [sacmom]
