In our city, they have free movie
nights during the summer.
It's called, Movie in the park.
They're really fun.
You bring a blanket or lawn chairs and
watch a movie outside at a community park area.
Usually they show brand new movies, like the
ones you would find in theaters, but they're free.
Wish they did something like that during fall,
cause it's still warm in our area.
Do they have a free movie night in your area?

Yes they do. We have an 18 screen movie theatre at the local mall. Over the summer we have the Family movie Festival. It's not at night though. Its Wednesday and Thursday mornings. 10 am to be specific. The offer G rated moves as well as some PG. It is a nice idea. [ersmommy1]
That's pretty cool! Our park district does swim-ins at the pool where you sit in the pool and they project the movie on the wall. It's not free but it's only the cost of pool admission. Once in a while the school district does a family movie night. Not sure if that's free. Where I used to live the local theater (was a large chain) did free children's movie matinees during the spring and fall. Those were pretty awesome. I took my kids to those whenever possible. [tinkerick]
The pool night sounds like so much fun! Splish! Splash! Who doesn't love a pool? [beautyqueen26]
Back home I have done this before, yes. And it is certainly a lot of fun! They used to screen movies every now and then in a park next to the city and they would show old classics like Casablanca and Gone with the wind etc. I only went the one time and the movie was Grease from memory. I have no idea if they still do this as I haven;t been home in a long time; but it was pretty popular so I am sure they still do. [James72]
wow, nice. nope sadly they dont do anything like this here. do they sell snacks there too? that would be a blast to take the kids to! do they run it every week or like once a month? hm, i wonder how i could start something like this in my area??? [cher913]
Then ones in my area have people selloing things walking around. Pop, chips, popcorn and candy is about it though. Just like a regular theatre actually. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~ [webeishere]
They do not have a free movie night here where I live, but they do have a free concert in the park series during the summer happy Like you said, it's bring a blanket, or a chair, and enjoy a free show. It's very popular here. A movie would be lots of fun though too [fwidman]
We haven't been to any of our local concerts with. [beautyqueen26]
Yes we have them as qwell in the warm weather months. They use the inflatable screens which are easy and fast to set up and tear down. We also have free concerts around us. I have gone to many of these free movies at a park near my wifes work in the past. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~ [webeishere]
I think they do the free concerts too. Haven't taken my daughter to any of those yet. She's still at the stage where loud music scares her. Maybe next year! Thanks for your comments. [beautyqueen26]
Nope not around here. In a town close to here they have movies for kids during the day. Those are free. They just have to go to the sponsoring merchant and get tickets but we have never taken our daughter. No adults are allowed and nothing for us to do and I don't know about leaving small children unsupervised in a theater with loads of other kids. But a town I used to live in has movie night like what you are talking about. [Ruthep]
Yikes! No way. You know the deal in our area about kids. I don't leave my daughter alone ANYWHERE! I got enough free movies at home and from Netflix. [beautyqueen26]
Yes, we have a family outdoor movie night every week or so in the summer time. It's hosted by the local cable company and they project the movie on a big inflatable thing. xD But I've never been to one, because I live a little far from where they do it. xD [megumiart]
I don't think we have that here, but it wounds like it would be a lot of fun. I hope they start up something like that in our area. It sounds like a drive in movie without the cars... more like a walk-in movie. Might be hard to make out with the husband with no car surrounding us. Maybe, if they start that up here, we'll have to bring a tent! [danishcanadian]
Clever! Privacy and fun. What more could a gal ask for on a date with her honey. lol [beautyqueen26]
I wish they did! How neat! Maybe they don't do it here because it's too hot in summers. Our summer nights are still over 100 degrees. They should do it in the winter here. Would be really neat. Sounds like alot of fun! [samijo719]
We dont have anything like that here wish we did. In a town over they have have Music in the park but it is on Thursday nights from what I understand so not for us as Hubby gets up at 4-5 to go to work. I sure do wish they had free movies here. We do have a Drive-in next time over which we do go to but free would be so much better! [Ithink]
No but I wish they did! It has been ages since I have seen a movie in a theater! My husband and I went to the movies often before our son was born and when we were dating! In the last three years I think I could count the number of times I've been in a theater on one hand! I sure do miss going but my son's therapy is much more important!! ~Heavens~ [heavenschild]
They're so much fun! But in our area things do get super hot in the summer. Nights are cooler and that's when they hold the movie. Very nice to be outside in the cool evening. [beautyqueen26]
Not that I know of, but it sure sounds nice. I think I would enjoy that very much. [thelastwolf113]
Yes, we have them in the Chicago area as well. On every corner of the street there's a park and a huge banner promoting what's going to be screening in the coming week. I was never able to go out to one but will surely try to make an effort as it'll be great watching the movies under the stars almost like a drive-through. Question though? Due to so many people around, how are you able to hear the movie? I mean can it get a bit chatty that the privacy of watching the movie is not as great as in a theatre. [thuhuong]
I think they might do but it's not very popular in my circle. The free movie is really for those who like to drink and smoke. I don't like that kind of environment. I'd rather sit in a less-popular but quite area and chat with friends or family. Although a free movie isn't very important for me anyway because I can just watch it on HBO or download it off the internet... [mimico]
That sounds like so much fun. I don't think that they do this around my area but then again I haven't been looking out for it so it's possible that they do and I just don't know about it. I would like to do that though if they did have it around where I live. Recently I found out through fliers that were hung around my college that a movie theatre somewhere around my school actually shows free movies once in a while. I didn't get a chance to go though because I had an essay and a lot of homework to do around the time that I saw the fliers though. They don't show new movies though. That would have been cool. [Chastised_Dreamz]
We don't have anything like that here, or at least if we do, I've never heard anything about it. I read the newspaper almost everyday, so I would think I would have seen a mention of it somewhere if they did it. [carlaabt]
Sometimes, the bigger cities will do a free movie or concert series. [beautyqueen26]
Hello beauty queen. It is so nice to have this kind of free movie in the city, but here in China, it is usually in villages in the country for farmers to have some recreational activities. In cities, there are some very big TV screens on the wall of some buildings or malls. There is a very big one in my town. Good day. [williamjisir]
That sounds fascinating. And I have never seen that before. [beautyqueen26]
no we don't..how sad! tsk, the best things in life are free... [donn_juan]
yes..have a free movie in our town every Saturday and Monday....And we will enjoy to watch every weekend... [jelai24]
Yes, in my city they have free movie nights in the summer, but most films are just about classical music and opera. Those evenings are popular with older people and tourists who are visiting the city. [sylvia13]
Yes,there still are some free movies outside.I like to see them.Because it is busy for us watch movies together.I often did this when I were a child. [sanzi1201]
The discussion make me think of my childhood,I lived in a small mountain village when I was a kid.the most of time, people shown some movies in the yard when they celebrate or commemorate something,at that time,we kids were the happiest people,in order to occupied the best seat.we went to the open cinema after supper with stool in haste.we played in the yard before the movie started to show.in the 1980s,the open theater was the only place almost in our rural area.I miss the time during I lived in the village now. [scyzyyyy]
In Thailand, free movie is can be seen everywhere and anytime of the year. We call it "Nung Klang Plang" which means "Movie in a yard". When people has a celebration, the host usualy hire a movie company to show movies for a few days. Even in funeral, many people are shown some free movies too. Believe that is good deeds for the dead people. Make them happy in the next life. [luckymeow]
no, we don't but that sounds like fun. [ANTIQUELADY]
To my knowledge we don't have that here. I wish we did, it sounds really cool. We do have free concerts in the summer, they have it once a month at the park. I've not been yet to enjoy one, but I look forward to it, next summer.:) [SuzyQ12]
No, definitely nothing like that around here. There isn't much of anything going on in this area. Hopefully, I won't be in this area much longer. I want to be near stuff again. [wilsongoddard]
Hi there beautyqueen. I will tell you of what i know about movies here in my town and country. Well to start of with my town - we don't get free movies, but we can have a discount on Wednesdays if we bring a code from an Orange phone number (that's a mobile phone provider). The only place you can see free movies is in Constanta, a city located at the Black Sea and it runs usually in the summer as well. [elitess]
Aah that is something I would definitely go to if they had that here. I know they have "The Green" which is an area downtown Vienna where groups or bands sing songs and or perform. I have yet to see one though. [maddysmommy]
Yeah we have movie in the park nights, usually every Friday, but they have stopped it I believe due to the coldness of Autumn coming upon us. [candymarie]
Nope but there used to be a free movie on Wednesdays at the Country Club when I was a member there. I'm not now so I don't know if they still have it. Other than that there are no free movies in Trinidad. [Bluepatch]
Sadly, where I'm liking in Oklahoma now, there aren't any free movies. Where I lived in MA, there were some during the summer in the park. They were a lot of fun. There was also a beach in CT that had free movies on the beach...that was a blast! Closest thing we have here are drive in movies, and they aren't free. However, you can bring lawn chairs and your own food, so it's close. On weekends there are 3 first-release movies for $5.00. Drive-in is usually open until mid-November, or until the weather stays cold. [catdla1]
Not sure if they do or not, I'll have to check around, thanks for the idea. They do have $1.00 movies though, I'd rather see a cheap movie because if it bites I won't have wasted too much money on it. Plus when the kids want popcorn and drinks they can get what ever they want, I'm saving $50.00 by going to the dollar theater, why not spend it on junk food instead. [gitfiddleplayer]
The park district does sponsor 2 movies in the park a year. They are usually family type movies. We have yet to go to one though. I always forget. I am sure it is really nice because the beach is in the back ground. [ladym33]
They have a free movie night in the park where I'm from. I've never been because my bf works nights and I'd have to go by myself. Don't really have any friends that live close and everybody else I know, I don't consider hang out material. Maybe one day they'll have it the same night my bf has a night off. Then again, he'll probably be asleep at that time anyway. [txchaplin]
We have a free movie in the next city! It is only for the summer. There is also a free concert night during the summer. It is similar in that you can bring a blanket or a chair and sit. There is food for sale and a playground to play in for the younger children. winkhappy I hope to attend more often next summer! It is difficult to attend while riding the bus as it ends late, around 11 pm! [olivemai]
