I rent movies. I usually rent them at our library. it is only 1.00 to rent a dvd movie there. It is 3.00 at our video store. VHS tapes a free to rent at the library as well. [lightningMD]
Some libraries have free rentals as well as paid rentals, and yes it is a lot cheaper, than in the store. The library by where I used to live charged 1.50, however there were a couple DVDs that I had to resurface before I could even view, we stopped renting videos and DVDs from the library. Why would anyone buy movies if they can rent it. I mean in both ways your main goal is to watch movie so cheaper option is renting them. But still if there is any movie that i love personally then i go for buying it. [soulkeeper16]
I rent them then they sit on the table until I have late charges for a movie I never bothered to watch. Mostly I borrow them from friends, no late charges that way! [whywiki]

I don't understand renting or borrowing. Like, I WORK at a library... but I don't ever borrow books from the library. Unless it was for a school project or something. So I don't rent movies. I don't understand the point of it. I also don't purchase Pay Per View movies. I only watch movies on tv or buy movies. I don't even borrow movies from my friends or family. we only rent movies here. buying for us is so costly so we prefer to rent in the video shops. after you watch it then return it to the shop. we will only buy if we really like the movie or it is part of our collection. for example, Titanic is a great movie that's why we bought it's dvd. [ahyz_thea]

I never buy movies. Even my favorite ones I'm only going to watch eery few years or so. I'd have to watch a movie at least 4 times to just make up the purchase price versus renting. Plus, I'd have to store the then, too. [theproperator]

It usually depends on the movie. If I'm not sure that I'll like it, I'll rent it before I buy. Other movies that I like, I just don't like enough to buy it. However, if a store is having a special on a movie I want to see, I will sometimes buy it without having seen it. [shamrock_lassie]
There was a time when I would rent them. But because I can access online and pirated dvd copies are available, I do buy them. Sorry, I am a self-confessed pirate. Anyways, I buy original copies when I feel like keeping the copy for real. :) [tryxiness]
We do both, but we tend to rent more than buy because its just to expensive to buy DVDs all the time, and you get more rentals for the money. If we really like one we will go out and buy it, We use blockbuster for renting because we can take the online rentals back to the store for a free in store rental, and we are never without a rental. We usually buy all our dvd's. I don't think in the four years of us being married we've ever rented a dvd. This is kinda bad becuase we some times get crappy movies and watch them only once. But we have a great collection. [tiffiny]
I've purchased several of the classics that I do not mind watching every now and again - seasonal things mostly, or some children's classics. we do not get television at all so we order the netflix rentals which equals out to be about 3 movies a week. my son has purchased a few television series dvd collections, most recently the 24 series... never saw it on tv so enjoy it now without the stinkin commercials ;) [Modestah]

Currently, I neither buy or rent movies. I download them! harhar... Because of the high rise of piracy here in the Philippnes, they aren't many video rental stores anymore. I do understand that downloading is illegal and all but if I had the money to buy those movies in Blu-ray or even a now cheaper option which is the DVD, I would. I like watching movies over and over again so I'd prefer to buy so I could watch it whenever I want without worrying about the dues. [dianne17k]

I rent them if i have time to watch them.. Because like you i never watch something more then once. Unless its REALLY good, then i will go out and buy it. I also do not have a lot of space to work with in my apartment so finding room for all those dvd's if i were to buy them would be HARD WORK and MAINTENENCE to keep them tidy!
