I have been in the unfortunate position on several occassions where I have no one to go to the cinema or theatre with because either they have been working or I have been working or some other reason. Well earlier this year I had the opportunity to see someone I really admire and was desperate to see at the theatre live but I had no one to go with and it also meant it would be a 2 hour drive as he wasn't coming to our town. I got a ticket and went on my own. I wasn't going to miss out on seeing him and if meant going on my own late at night then so be it. Don't get me wrong it would have been nice to have gone with someone but the only person that was available was the person who babysat my kids so that I could go. I have been to the cinema loads of times on my own because I would rather see something on my own than not get to see it at all.
Do you ever go to the cinema or theatre on your own? Would you never dream of doing such a thing and would rather miss seeing the movie or performance?

If I want to go and see a horror film I have no choice but to go on my own because none of my friends are up for it! None of them like horror films and I have still not been forgiven for taking my friend to see Final Destination 3, I sort of told him a few untruths that it wasn't scary, he was white on leaving the cinema! So my name was mud, I had to take him for a stiff drink, now I have to go on my own, but to be honest I tend to wait for it to come out on Sky, because it's so expensive going to the cinema now and having to put up with selfish people who play with their mobiles, come in half way through the film and block the picture or start munching or chatting, I gave up! So now I watch from the comfort of my own home! I need someone who loves horror films as much as me I think! [wolfie34]
Hi ya wolfie34 Sorry to say that you have only yourself to blame on that one and you were lucky to get away with just having to buy him a drink and not having his laundry bill to pay! I do see your point about going to the cinema these days and forget buying popcorn you would leave the palce armless!! Hope you find a horror movie buddy soon!! [Humbug25]
If it came down to a situation like that I would go alone although I would like to be there alone. I like to experience the different emotions with someone so we can talk about it on the ride home or something like that. I know people who do go alone and I just don't think I could do that. [MrsRich723]
Hi there MrsRich723 It's always nice to have some company isn't it? Thanks for responding [Humbug25]
Of course I go to the movies by myself all the time. Alot of times the movies that I want to see my friends dont want to see. So I have ended up going by myself to the movies. [babyfirefighter]
Hi there babyfirefighter Yeah sometimes it is the choice of going on your own or missing it. Thanks for responding [Humbug25]
In the past I have gone to the theatre loads of times on my own, it got rather boring trying to find somebody to go with me who would laso like the show. I have also been to the cinema only once on my own, years ago but the film was all about Lady Jane Grey and her very short reign on the throne, I went on my way home from work as I didn't want to go on my own when the cinema was full. The first time I went to the theatre on my own i acxtually had to sit all by myself so after that time I always made sure that when I booked my ticket I was sitting next to someone. Who did you go to see? [Anne18]
Hi Anne18 I went to see Derren Brown and he was amzing, absolutely fantastic and well worth the 2 hour drive and to sit on my own! I didn't get in until 1 am because I had to drive back as well. I love the theatre, I saw Rocky Horror and lots of musicals too but those have always been with someone. Cheers for responding!! [Humbug25]
I remember watching movies before alone but on rare occasions and only when I really have no choice. Since I'm at work most of the time so I am not able to watch movies in the theater a lot but I would prefer to go with my husband and daughter. Although we can't watch movies other than a GP one, it's fine as long as my little toddler enjoys it. [yuna15]
Hi yuna15 I used to go to the cinema on my own before I had my kids now I just can't go because I can't get a babysitter or it would be too expensive to pay a babysitter and to pay to see the film! Thank you for your response [Humbug25]
I went to cinemas alone. Everytime I am stres, I go there just to forget all the pressures. It helps a lot and it made you feel good. After going to the cinemas, my mind is set and I focused myself to the problem and so far so good it helps a lot. [aisaellis22]
you're welcome.. [aisaellis22]
no, only whith my friend or my boyf. but never in teatre.......... i prefwer a concert myryam [miryam]
Hi there miryam So do you go to concerts on your own then? Thanks for your response [Humbug25]
I watch movies alone. I like to watch it with someone or a group but I do not have friends. sad I am in an unfortunate position as well. So, I just watch movies at home with my dog. I think that is the best way to go about as of now. Good day! lollol [TheManager24]
I'm concerned that you call yourself an unfortunate person, you can change the way you feel about that you know! I'm going to ask you to be a friend and maybe we can talk about it? Peace Georgia [aslanlight]
I went to a gig in Barnstaple, my old town, on my own once but I knew friends would be inside so I don't suppose that really counts. But at another time I booked a ticket to see Fleetwood Mac there on my own because I couldn't find anyone to go with. I was so excited about it and that the ticket was inexpensive but a friend told me later that it was only a tribute band so I got a refund. What a prize idiot I felt! lol [aslanlight]
Hardy harr harr lol [Humbug25]
I always go the Cinema by myself ! but i think the next year my brother will come with me . It's cool to have some friend or member of the family to got with you ! . So like when the movie ends both of u start talking about and what happened and what do like about it,ETC . [AyserJubair]
Hello AyserJubair Yes it is nice to go with someone but sometimes there is no one to go with. Thanks for your response [Humbug25]
No, I cannot go and did not go to the Cinema for a very long time because my wife cannot be with me so what i did is i bought my own Home Theatre Dolby Sorround(DTS)lol so that we both enjoyed watching films for we cannot go out together with my wife because of my daughter which is still young and i always need my wife to be with me in the cinema for she is my translator he he hewub [iyah10]
Hello iyah10 Well that seems to be a good answer to the problem - buy a home theatre!! Thanks for the response [Humbug25]
I went to see Spiderman 3 alone because my husband has to work and I didn't want to wait. A few times when my son was about 13, I'd take a few of the boys to the movies but I didn't sit with them, so in a sense I did watch the movie alone. If it's something I really want to see I'll go alone, it doesn't bother me at all. When the other option is to miss it, then I rather go alone. [thelastwolf113]
Hi there thelastwolf113 My point exactly!! Thanks for the response [Humbug25]
I do go to cinema alone most time, the reason is because some time i just like going out on my own.Idon't feel like going out with some, going to the theatre some is ometime save because in case there is any eventuality you can run without looking back, that is if you go out with some one you will be thinking of the peron safty [dailywealth]
Hi there dailywealth I really hadn't looked at it that way! Thank you for responding [Humbug25]
if i could go alone i think i would just to have some time to myself.. [headbanger21]
your welcome... [headbanger21]
Hey, there humbug25. I enjoy going to the movie theater, but I prefer to go with a friend or my sister and if no one is available I just wait until someone is or until the movie comes out on DVD, but I dont think theres necessarily anything wrong with going to the theater alone, I just like it better when I have someone to share the movie going experience with and I like to talk about the film after its ends and discuss my feelings about the movie or a certain seen.happy [apples99]
Hey apples99 I totally agree with you, there is nothing wrong with going on your own at all. Like when I had to go to theatre on my own to see this one particular performer, although I told my friend all about it when I got home she really couldn't really relate to what I was talking about because not only had she not been there but she didn't know the person performing either!! Thanks for your response [Humbug25]
No the closest theatre from where we live is two hours away so I would never go on my own as it would be a long drive to go someplace to watch a movie myself when I could rent one or wait and watch it on the dish when it comes on . My husband and I went to the theatre once and neither of us were particaulry thrilled with it and will probably never go back :) He found the seats were to close together and his legs were so cramped , it cost a fortune to get in and then even more for popcorn and pop and the whole way through the movie we were both craving a cigarette since we both smoke . We left and agreed we would have had a lot more fun had we stayed home :) And not to mention it took two hours to get there and we still had to come home after the movie was over . [samtaylorskykierajen]
Hi there samtaylorskykierajen Awww that really sucks! I had to travel 2 hours to see the performer I wanted to see but it really was worth it and I certainly didn't experience the things you did! Thanks for your response [Humbug25]
I've never seen a movie by myself. I think the point of watching a movie in the cinema is not just for the quality of the film but for the entire experience of sharing a tub of popcorn, giggling with your friends, and exchanging commentaries. Dinner after the movie would be great too. So I don't see how one can enjoy watching a movie in the cinema alone. I'd rather stay at home or download the movie online. :) [mimico]
Hi ya mimico Sure, I see where you are coming from but sometimes there isn't always that option. Thanks for your response [Humbug25]
Nope I never went to the movies alone nor will I ever go to the movies alone its embarassing to go by your self and would be pretty boring to. But I would only go if there was a movie ive been dying to see and no one else wanted to see it. [arcidy]
Hey there arcidy Ah so you would actually go if it meant you would miss the movie otherwise eh? lol Thanks for your response [Humbug25]
Not a big deal Humbug, because there is a such thing as "me time",some people might look at you but who cares?Id go if there was a film that HAD to be seen at the cinema but no one else wanted to go with me. And thank you very much for introducing your friend to me Humbuglol,I really appreciate that! lolcheers.. [roshand8]
Hey there roshand8 To be honest I couldn't care less if people were to look at me because I am on my own, I have to see what I wanted to and that is good for me. To be honest I dont usually notice if anyone is looking at me or no, and they probably do alot I wouldn't know as I am usually in a world of my own minding my own business!! Hey you are welcome about introducing 'a' , as I call her, I thought you two would have a lot to discuss and can exchange tips! [Humbug25]
Sure I have...many times. I am a big horror movie fan and while I enjoy the genre, most of my family and friends do not, so I end up taking myself to the movies to see them. I don't think it's that big of a deal. When you watch a movie, it's a pretty isolating experience anyway....unless you are one of those annoying types that talks throughout the film. I've actually had a great time going on my own...I can sit where I want, order what I want (without having to share it) and see any film I want. [sksongwriter]
Hi ya sksongwriter I think you and wolfie34 should get together, he can't seem to drag anyone to watch horror movies with him either!!lol Thanks for your response [Humbug25]
If I lived near you I would've taken you :) [jackgym]
Awww thanks jackgym!! Cheers for responding [Humbug25]
Hi there,I never watched a movie alone.I'll never watch alone in my future also..Because it makes you feel bored if you do not have a partner to share a joke or the action with you...If you go to a horror movie then you are done...I'll never watch a horror movie all alone,no not even at my home...Even if the movie is interesting you feel like its boring...So I always opt to go with my friends or with my brother or with any one else..But not alone... Have a nice day..!! [dsharat]
Hi there dsharat I wouldn't watch a horror movie, full stop, I don't like them whether I am watching them with someone or alone!! Thanks for responding [Humbug25]
I haven't tried to be in cinema all by myself. It so sad to think that you are there laughing with so many people if the movie is humorous only to find out they are all strangers. And I afraid also of going there alone, because we don't know maybe we can meet stranger that will lead us to bad, anyway don't be negative here. Maybe someday I will try to be alone in the cinema but for me that would be sad. [grecychunny26]
Hi there grecychunny26 I am sure there are many people at the cinema that are also on there own, we just don't know it!! Thank you for your response [Humbug25]
Hi Humbug, I tend to wait until a film comes out on DVD as the cost of a babysitter and then the cinema ticket don't really warrant me going, however if I wanted to see someone live that would be a different kettle of fish, I would buy a ticket and go. I love live music and performances so for this I would indulge myself and go alone if I had too. Huggles. Ellie :D [ellie333]
Hi ya ellie333 Well the ticket for the theatre was to see Derren Brown and my mum bought it for me for my birthday and I remember her asking me if she needed to buy one or two, as she was working that night and my friend was babysitting I told her that to be on the safe side she had better get just the one!!lol Thanks for your response [Humbug25]
If I really like that particular movie, maybe I will go alone. I will not miss it just because no body there to accompany me to see. But until know I never go to cinema alone. I always have friends or family members when I go to cinema. Usually the movie I like, they also like it. If not I will persuade them to watch. I am very good persuader. happy [ravinder18]
I can say myself as persuader. Sometimes it works and sometimes don't. I can persuade if I know a lot fact about the topic. Example I know the synopsis of the story or maybe I watch the trailer. [ravinder18]
I have never in my entire life ever gone to a movie theater alone. In the past 10 years I have never even been to a movie theater as I much prefer watching movies at home. [whiteheather39]
Hello whiteheather39 It really is cheaper these days to watch movies at home anyway, especially the popcorn! Thanks for your response [Humbug25]
I REALLY DON'T ENJOY GOING ANYWHERE BY MYSELF LIKE THAT. I THINK IT'S GReAT THAT U GO ON & do these things by yourself. [ANTIQUELADY]
Hi ya ANTIQUELADY Sometimes if you wait around for other people to do things with you then you would maybe never get around to doing them like the movie has already gone from the cinema! Thank you for your response [Humbug25]
for me... it doesnt matter whether i came to the cinema alone or with somebody... as long as the movies is good i will came to cinema..but until now, i havent came to cinema by myself..i came to cinema with my friends [iman3004]
Hi there iman3004 That is good that it doesn't bother if you go on your own or with someone then you will always be able to go!!lol Thank you for responding! [Humbug25]
Yeah, there have been times that I have gone to see a movie alone. I remember one time I went to see one particukar movie alone due to the fact I knew I would be unable to get anyone to go. These days, I'd pretty much would still have to go alone because most of my friends go to school elsewhere and don't come back to town or, even if they do, we don't hang out too much anymore. So going alone is about my only choice if I wanted to go see a movie I wanted to see. [DarthJustice]
Hi there DarthJustice Well at least you still go and not having anyone to go with doesn't hold you back. Thank you for your response [Humbug25]
I have been on my own for many years and if I did not do things on my own I would miss out on a great deal. It is mostly women who always want someone to go with them. I guess it is socializion and a safety issue. I don't go to events which require me to take the subway and bus very late at night but otherwise I do. I refuse to be a prisoner of fear. [Lindalinda]
You are so right. Walk purposefully and know where you are going. I also keep my keys in my hand pointing outward. Take care. [Lindalinda]
Yeah.. I've watched movies on my own maybe half of all the movies I've seen. I enjoy watching movies alone. First, I can focus on the movie; second I can choose what I prefer to watch; third, the only person available is my husband and often times he snooze and snores inside which is quite embarrassing. [Fleurdelis]
Hi ya Fleurdelis lol That really must be embarrassing, I would move to the other side of the theatre!! lol Thank you for your response [Humbug25]
no i haven't actually... i hardly go to the cinema anyway... i prefer to watch movie from home... it is much cheaper and more relaxing... i will feel so bored and lonely if i have to do that and i can't stand it... i prefer to not to go or miss the show if i have to go by myself... take care and have a nice day... [lingli_78]
Hello lingli_78 Thank you for your response [Humbug25]
Nah, if i would reaally like to see the movie i would go alone, but else id rather go with my friends much funner. [boeferman]
Hi boeferman I agree, it is more fun to go with friends! Thanks for your response [Humbug25]
Yes, I often go to Theaters. I used to watch movies only in the theaters. But, for the past three months, I have no time to spend for cinemas, movies... etc... Now I am relieved....This weekend, I have a plan to go for a good picture. [arunmails]
Hi there arunmails I do hope the movie was worth going to see. Thank you for responding [Humbug25]
No, I often go to cinema with my girlfriend. She is a good girl. Sometimes She didn't like the horrific film, but she would come along with me. Maybe I am lucky as one good girlfriend. ^o^ [carlos2008]
Hi there carlos2008 You are lucky to have suck a nice girlfriend! Thank you for your response [Humbug25]
I've never gone by myself.. Always with one or more persons.. It is more fun that way.. Have a nice day.. [NrgDfenZ]
Hi NrgDfenZ It is really nice to go with lots of people but it is sometimes hard to even find one person to go with! Thank you for your response [Humbug25]
Well i have never benn on my own always with people but some times i do want to go on my own since no one wants to come for various reasons. I think in the future some time i probably will be on my own watching in the cinema lol but i dont mind. Who cares if you are on your own i actually dont like being with people they disturb me lol. Being with my friends all they do is talk throughout the whole film. I would rather go on my own lol. [shamzy18]
Hi ya shamzy18 Maybe next time your friends ask you to go to the cinema you should tell them you can't make it and then go on another night on your own! lol Thanks for your response [Humbug25]
I don't see anything wrong in going to the theatre or a movie alone. I do it, alot. I don't feel it's unfortunate, at all. It's funny how people think that being alone is so awful and sad. It's not at all. Of course, I just like being alone. I'm a real people watcher, and alot of times I'll just strike up a conversation with someone while I'm watching people. I don't know, I've just never had a problem being by myself. It's usually my choice, I enjoy my own company for the most part. I may end up going to see the Eagles perform in concert by myself. Going by myself is the least of my problems. I'll just make new friends there. [Makena1968]
Hi there Makena1968 I also don't see anything wrong with it all but just on this one occassion that I went to see Derren Brown Live at the theatre I would have liked to have gone with someone, to also share the journey home with. I am a single mum to 3 boys and don't have much of a social life, well it is pretty non-exsistan actually, so when I do get the opportunity to go out it is nice to be with other adults! Thank you for your response [Humbug25]
Yes of course, I feel that's great moment where i can enjoy the movie my own and without any interruption. Kind of special and weird but that's me. =) [adriantys78]
Ya, you are absolutely right, ignore for other people viewed. We are not doing something wrong or affecting some other people. Importance is even we are alone to see movie, we still can enjoy that, also without interference by friend. Because some friend might try to chit chat with us when movie time, kind of feel those person very irritating. =) [adriantys78]
I love going to the cinema by myself. I don't think I've ever been to the theatre by myself, probably just because I don't like going to the theatre much. When I was a student I used to spend lots of free time watching films by myself! Especially when I was in France, where everyone did it. Here in the UK it's also quite common, and whenever I've been on my own I haven't been the only one. It means I can concentrate on the film, and really get into it, without other people talking to me! So yes, I would much rather go by myself then miss a film I really want to see! [liquorice]
Hi there liquorice It really doesn't bother me to go to the cinema on my own but it is nice to go to the theatre with a friend. Thank you for your response [Humbug25]
Yes, but I am more afraid now than ever before because of strangers getting bit closer tome when ever i try to watch them. [Greeneagle24]
Hi there Greeneagle24 Yes, that can be a very uncomfortable exprience. Take care and thanks for your response [Humbug25]
I neve go alone I always have at least 1 friend to go with me, but usually I go with a big group, its tons of fun. [Thiswebpage]
Hi there Thiswebpage I have never gone in a big group, I dare say you don't get to see much of the move eh?lol Thanks for the response [Humbug25]
hi humbug! i happen to go the theatre alone a couple number of times before and on the contrary t's not at all unfortunate. some of them i really planned that way. it's a good way of getting quality time with yourself. but of course, it wouldn't hurt to share a good movie with our friends and family. [dare2fail]
Hi ya dare2fail I think that if I had planned to go on my own it wouldn't have been unforunate. Sometimes I crave adult company because I am a single mum to 3 young boys. Thank you for your response [Humbug25]
No I don't go to see movies at the theater by myself, I only go with friends. Going without friends takes away a lot of the fun of going to a theater, if I had no friends to go with me I would just watch the movie at home by myself. [rifat1337]
Hi there rifat1337 Thank you for your response [Humbug25]
Yes, I have only had to do it once. But I would do it again. if all my Loser friends refused to go with me.. lol I really wouldn't bother me too much. It's not like you do alot of talking to people you go with anyway. you just sit there and watch. I guess it kinda sucks that you have no one to discuss it with after though. :( [minx267]
Hello minx267 It is nice to chat about the movie afterwards isn't it? Thanks for your response [Humbug25]
happyNever get a chance to go for cenema alone.. I don't like to go to see movie in the theater alone. If we are going alone then we cannot enjoy.. If we go with our frineds then we can have fun watching Movie. Again it is the matter of choice. Someone like to go alone and someone don't like.. [prchaudhari]
Thank you for your response prchaudhari [Humbug25]
I have gone to movies, live theater and concerts by myself in the past. In some ways I prefer it that way. If I go to any event with a friend or family member, I will only do so if I know that person wants to see it just as much as I do. Being able to share the experience is a great way to bond! But if I feel that someone is going only with me just to keep me company and will likely not enjoy it as much, I find it actually takes away from the pleasure. I hate feeling "responsible" for someone else's enjoyment. I don't always have the time or money to get out and see shows as much as I would like. That's why it is important to me to be able to make the most of the experience. So rather than making someone feel obligated or, worse, missing out altogether because nobody is interested, I would rather just go on my own. And I have never had a bad time by myself! [Wordplay]
Hey there Wordplay I couldn't have put it better myself and in fact I didn't!! lol Thanks for your response [Humbug25]
Shoot I do it all the time. Cause most people can't keep their mouth shut during the movie i like a hell of alot more. But always looking for someone who takes them as serious as i do. Heck, i'll even wait for time when hardly anybody is there...i can't hear the things too much background noise,,,especially teenagers, babies crying, cellphones, ditzy girlfriends, etc... and just plan alot of people with no manners or respect.. [lakotawoman]
Hi lakotawoman Oh yeah the sound of someone's mobile in the middle of the movie really is a killer!! Thanks for the response [Humbug25]
Well have been to see a few films and can predict that i will be on my own on the 20th October 2008 to was SAW V as having watched the first four im hooked. Would be nice to go with someone esp a horror film with a woman and of course you have to comfort them. "Honest love i could have sworn that the texas chainsaw massacre was a romantic comedy!!!" [rkotaker]
Hi ya rkotaker You are going mad and it has nothing to do with the computer!! rasp lol. Wouldn't catch me going to see a horror movie! Thanks for the response [Humbug25]
Well will predict now that i will be on my own to watch SAW V as none of my mates like horror films and since ive watche the first four ive just gotta go. Always good to take a woman to a horror film on a first date. "Honestly honey i could have sworn the Texas Chainsaw Massacre was a romantic comedy hehehe" [rkotaker]
Hi rkotaker Thanks again for the response lol [Humbug25]
I never see films on my own. I always go with friends. I almost always go to the theatre alone, though. I've had miserable experiences when I go with other people. I also tend to go at the last minute. [bwaybaby]
Hi there bwaybaby I am sad to hear that you have had bad experiences when going with other people to the theatre but I am glad you have resolved the problem by going on your own and not missing out. Thanks for your response [Humbug25]
Hi. Yes I do, and quite often. I am so glad to hear from someone who has the same opinion about going alone to the theater that I do. I have always been comfortable in my own skin; so that makes me my best date. (smile) I believe that we as humans, miss out on so much worrying about what others think about us because we're not with a date or a group of people. I prefer not to miss out on anything that I really want to do. Just don't sit to far from others and make it so obvious. (smile, smile, smile). And be alert and careful if you're leaving late. [ReoTwo]
Yeah well you can never be too sure these days. I usually carry my keys in my hand until I get to where I am going to! [Humbug25]
No, I guess I don't enjoy watching movies by myself. [DaddyOfTheRose]
Hi ya DaddyOfTheRose I think there are a lot of people out there that don't enjoy watching movies by themselves so you are not alone there. Thank you for responding [Humbug25]
I live so many miles from the cinema that I would not think of going by myself. I don't go at all because no one I know goes. It is just something that anybody that I know does anymore. I guess a few years ago I would go by myself and not have thought anything about it. We just rent dvds and watch the movies at home so we dont' have to go anywhere. [sweetbabyjane]
Hi there sweetbabyjane I think that these days it is cheaper to do that anyway especially if you have to pay for the petrol/gas on top just to get there. Thanks for your response [Humbug25]
Donīt know if iīm a bit strange. If I watch a movie at home,itīs ok for me to see it alone. But i donīt want to go to the cinema on my own. Even if we most often are silence when we are looking a movie,I want to discuss it on my way home [ennasus59]
Hi ya ennasus59 I think that is the main thing that people like to go to the cinema with people purely for the company and to discuss the movie afterwards. Thank you for your response [Humbug25]
I'm so sorry for coming in so late. No I don't like to that and have never done that. [suruchi86]
my answer has to be no, as i had a chance and did not. A buddy of mine were big speed racer fans as kids when the movie opened we decided to meet at theater after work on a Monday night to see the flick. He called me at theater and was stuck at work and was not going to be able to make it. I have a chance to see it by myself and i did not i thought about it and decided not to and went home. [tea512]
