Or have you, or would you? I always thought it was strange that movies would open on Christmas day, but so many do and it seems to be quite a sought after opening day. Do you have a Christmas day movie going tradition? Have you ever gone on Christmas? And if not what would it take to get you to go? I don't think I would go to a movie on Christmas day; I'm usually so burnt out my then I just want to eat cookies and go to bed!

responses and comments:
well its not tradition, but last time on christmas i went for the movie.Don't know about this year. But surely if i wont be busy with other preparation,i will go to watch one. What about you? [rishab0009]
I have never gone to the movies on Christmas day before. I am usually so wrapped up in family stuff it does not even occur to me to go. I don't normally go to movies on opening day in general since it is usually more crowded that day. [lilybug]
Yes, I'm the same. I HATE crowds, and by the time December 25th gets here I've had just about enough of them! [jesssp]
I refuse to go out and watch movies in theaters on Christmas Day because I don't like overcrowded places. Here in the Philippines, we have this Metro Manila Film Festival where Filipinos can make a marathon of all the movies presented and it always happens every 25th day of December. So by this time, people will flock the cinemas and they always get overcrowded. I'd better watch these films on DVD at home and bond with family. [amira_milka]
Lately I have. I will this year because I've been waiting a long time to see The Spirit, "My City Screams" - based on a famous comic strip from the forties. I'm not much into tradition anymore - it's just another day off. [Qaeyious]
I'm the same way, I am honestly looking forward to the four days off more than anything. [jesssp]
Yes we do..on christmas day is the showing of beautiful filipino films competing for the metro manila film fest, so we try to support it by watching every fil there. so yes,we do watch movies on christmas day.it's a nice day to bond with the family [kukaisiton]
I don't go to movies usually on Christmas Day now, but at one time I was very glad they were open on Christmas Day. My husband worked always on Christmas Day for years and wouldn't get home before 10:00 sometimes at night or, with night shift, he was gone by noon and didn't get home before midnight. We lived very far away from family then in a small town with extremely bad weather, so it was hard to get to the airport usually in our rural setting at that time of the year to travel to see family. So we would usually visit friends quickly that morning or they would come over, he would go to work, the friends wanted to go to their homes and it was a close-knit society so they didn't really invite people to their family celebrations. So the movies then were something I loved to go to. Sometimes my husband would get off a little earlier and we would go together because he'd be too tired for a big celebration. So for people who work on Christmas Day and don't get off until late, and a lot of people do now, or for people who are alone on the holidays the movies are a very good opportunity to get out and about. Of course, during those times years ago when I went everything but the movies was closed on Christmas Day. Now, where we live, a lot of other businesses open in the afternoons. Some even stay open Christmas Day (which is hard on the workers I know, since my husband worked like that for years). Now we live near my family and a lot of good friends, so now we don't go to movies on Christmas Day. Not usually (although we may go with friends in the evening this Christmas to see the new Brad Pitt movie) Because now my husband is off Christmas Day with a different job, but I'm still glad the movies are open for those who want to go then (but again, I still feel bad for the workers at the movies or those who work in stores who have to work on Christmas Day). [windchimebooks]
Hi, Just had time to get back on mylot today after holidays. Thanks for best response. Happy New Year to you and all mylotters. [windchimebooks]
I wouldn't choose to catch a movie on Christmas day, probably because of the crowd that rushes to shopping malls would "scare" me away. :D I don't like to get myself in the middle of a sea of people. Anyway, personally I don't think that's the way I would like to spend my Christmas unless there's a really warm Christmas themed movie showing that year. It's because I prefer to be in quiet places with a few closed friends or even just stay at home at chat with those friends who left home to work or study abroad. [wingsanctuary]
I'm the same - not a fan of the crowds. I do think that a Christmas day movie is a neat idea but I don't think it's really for me. [jesssp]
I don't go to the movies on Christmas day. I stay here at home. [phyrethyme]
I would rather stay in the house w/ my family waiting for my godchildren & relatives than to go to the movie house. [chico08488]
No, I don't think so. Because normally we went to parent's house for Christmas dinner. Of course it is not possible to go to the movie in the same times. Besides, it was long time ago since we could go to the movies. Hardly have any chance nowadays. [nyumix]
We have Christmas dinner at my fiance's parents house and it's quite a way out of town. We wouldn't be able to fit it in either. [jesssp]
I have never been to a movie on Christmas Day and have not thought of going. I cannot say that I would not go to a movie on Christmas Day because a day might come that I would go. Merry Christmas [sweetbabyjane]
Merry Christmas to you too! I never really thought of going either but I sure noticed a lot of movies opening on Christmas day this year and it got me wondering how many people do go. [jesssp]
Well, I think it depends. There is nothing wrong with going to watch movies on Christmas day. We can do many things on Christmas to celebrate, including movies. But I think it will be more romantic for lovers to watch movies on this day, esp. for those who cannot be together during working days. Christmas day gives them a good chance to enchance their love. My boyfriend and I have decided to watch a movie on that day. lol:) [chenxiaoyue_713]
Hi there jesssp I don't think there are any movie theatres open on Christmas Day around here and even if there were I wouldn't go. Like you I am usually pretty much burnt out on Christmas Day and anyway there is always some good tv on around during the holidays and there is never the need to go to the movies! [Humbug25]
I don't think our theatre is open either. I'm thinking it must be more in the major centers. Staying home and watching Christmas cartoons is more my speed. [jesssp]
I often go the movies but most of the time in chrismas day i like to watch jesus christ movies at my home so i will devotional love while i am watching those movies so which type of movies do you watch usually? [Dasari100]
I like to stick to the Christmas comedies & cartoons. [jesssp]
yes i will regularly go every year to movies on Christmas it is enjoyment day we have to enjoy buddy and what about you ? [akbarborn4u]
ive never gone to the movies on christmas but this might be the first year that I go since there are a few movies that I want to see like the sprit which looks kind of cool and valkrie which looks awsome and tom cruise actually looks like he might be good in that movie so those are two movies that I want to see and might see valkerie on christmas day. [arcidy]
Those two do look good but I thought it strange that they would have a Christmas opening. They look very un-Christmasy! [jesssp]
Since i'm not achristian i think i can go to movies on christmas day and for this christmas only i have planned to go to a movie and i think i can enjoy the enjoy as it is christmas and i really would like to celebrate christmas with all but here there would be celebrations only in a few places since my country is a hindu dominant country and we dont have many christians present over here..the population of christians is nearly 5 out of 100 and i think thats not a big thing... Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.... Happy Mylotting.... [balacancer22]
I don't think I've ever gone to movies on Christmas day. I had some friends that did, but I'm usually too busy. Some of the movies coming out this year do look good though. My son keeps talking about the movie Marly and Me. I think he wants to see that, although I don't know why. I want to see Bedtime Stories with Adam Sandler. Although we'll probably wait until they're on video. [katsmeow1213]
Marley and Me looks kinda cute, but I'll definitely wait until it comes out on video too. [jesssp]
No i don't.. i usually go out and see the movies after Christmas day.. [gracie04]
Going to the movies on Christmas day was a favorite Christmas pass time when I was young. But now that I'm an adult (44), I'm burnt out by Christmas day too. Eating cookies and going to bed sounds like the best ticket. Now I understand why my parents use to drop us off at the movies on Christmas day...they probably went home and took a nap. [cbreeze]
LOL, that's cute. Probably went home and turned off all the lights and just sat in silence! [jesssp]
hey u know it si better to dont go to movie on yhat day.becoz i see tv on that day and enjoy the eve with my family members. [jimkarry69]
yes and i tend to watch a movie this Christmas..i wanna see a funny movie since i had been alone during Christmas and it just feels so empty so i just enjoy my day watching movies [angel_of_charm]
That's too bad that you're alone, but going to the movies is definitely a nice way to be with other people and have a good laugh. [jesssp]
I often wonder about movies that are released on Christmas Day. For me, that day is always way to busy to go to a movie. However I can see why it makes sense for some people. Some people don't have to cook, they just have to show up at a relatives at 5 PM, so they have nothing else to do all day. I have been to a movie on Thanksgiving, but that was because a bunch of us were done eating and bored. There were quite a few people at the theater too. I guess if you aren't having a big dinner and you aren't going to a million family members houses, then why not? [vivasuzi]
I keep forgetting that not everyone has family obligations and a big dinner to go to. The more responses I get the more I understand why people would go. [jesssp]
yes we usually go in the afternoon just to relax, but this year there are like 3 movies coming out that we want to see. Not sure which one will win. LOL! You should try it it is fun. [baileycows]
I'm not sure that I've ever gone to the movies on Christmas Day, but I have gone to the movies on New Years Day. Although, that was after or before our Christmas with my dad's parents. [CRSunrise]
we have never went to movies on Christmas day , but we all want to see the new Tom Cruise movie so we are seriously thinking of going to see it. [sweetpeasmom]
I don't go to the movies on Christmas day . i spend my time with my family sipping hot coca on the sofa, or watch a movie from the comfort of my own home. Christmas is a time to spend with your familiy. You could go to the movies., call me old fashind but, I would rather stay home eating sweets and spending time with my family. [chcarron]
Well, it's not something that I do on Christmas day. It's not something I plan on doing. I prefer to just stay home and spend time with family. [dodo19]
no, we just dont have time because we have way too much going on. but i have gone to see a movie on new years day. we took the family out and saw happy feet a few years ago and it was something different and a little fun for our kids and hubby and myself. [cher913]
I have learned to 'never say never,' but I don't think that I would go to a movie on Christmas day. Of course, if none of my children were coming home for Christmas and hubby and I had nothing better to do....who knows! So far all of my Christmases have been filled with family and no time for movies. Of course, that isn't to say that going to a movie couldn't be a family affair.... [crazynurse]
Exactly. I can't imagine a Christmas where there wasn't family everywhere but you never know. [jesssp]
I do not go to the movies on christmas. I find that I am far too busy spending time with family and friends. There are some movies coming out this christmas that I would like to see, but I will wait for another day. I do not see movies on christmas, but I know that my aunt followed this tradition for many years. I think that she was a bit lonely and decided to go to the movies so she would not feel left out. Now that she is married, she no longer follows the tradition. [surveytaker29345]
That's not a bad idea. I never really thought much about it. However, I feel bad for those who have to work Christmas day! I mean maybe if you don't celebrate Christmas ok. But if you do, oh my goodness that is terrible!! Like for me, I would not mind working on Chanukah or Kwanza because I do not celebrate those holidays. Those working on their big holidays should at least get some type of raise if you ask me. I mean, to work all those hours on a holiday and only get minimum wage...? Uh, that's a kick in the a*s if you ask me. [tiiffanyluvzuxx]
It seems like lots of places are open on Christmas now. It used to be that only the video store and 7-11 were open on the 25th, and I always felt bad for them. I hope employers do something extra special for people who have to work of Christmas. [jesssp]
I have come to notice that many movies in the past seem to like to come out on Christmas day. I, myself, haven't been to any movies on christmas day. I have been known to pop in a movie that I recieved though. That's not anything new or special though. I hear you though on the burnt out part. I want to pig out for the Christmas dinner and go to sleep. My mind thinks about a lot on Christmas day and I feel like I deserve the rest by the end of the day. [TrayBlaylock]
Yep, by the end I'm just done. And stuffed! [jesssp]
Well I have never gone to see a movie on Christmas Day and never will have a tradition of that. The only reason I would go see a movie on Christmas Day was if I was in it! Or if I was being paid a billion dollars. Christmas is a time where you spend time with family and friends. [Bellaire]
No, I usually rent a DVD for my family to watch it in our home instead of wasting my time and money going to the movie theater. =) [SummerLily]
Never. It would take an act of God to get me in a theater and out of my home on Christmas Day. I don't even know anyone personally that goes to the movies on Christmas Day. One of my co-workers told me that she and her family don't actually have christmas dinner. They just go out for a big breakfast instead. [tarheel]
I was just thinking about this the other day! My boyfriend told me that he wanted to go to a movie on Christmas night. I've never done it before, but I wouldn't mind it. We have a pretty relaxing Christmas. It's usually me, my parents, two siblings, and a set of grandparents at my house. We open presents, have a big dinner, and then just relax and play cards or whatever. I guess it might be more of a time to see a movie with your family as opposed to seeing one with friends. [MeganK]
It's a nice idea for a change of pace. Especially with a more laid back family. [jesssp]
sometimes...but mostly on new years day..we all watch..just imagine a total of six in a cinema..so costly..but it pays actually ..i mean the bonding and everything..and we really enjoy watching in group...what about you? [vanities]
hahaha ! Well I have never actually done it, but I think I should try it out sometime! I am always bored on x-mas because I am not Christian and I do not celebrate it. Everything is always closed on xmas and there is nothing to do! So why not? I should gather more of my non-christmas-celebrating buddies and hit the theatre! A bunch of good movies are actually opening on x-mas, so I might actually go and try it out! [sennawork]
I've never done it, but it seems kind of interesting to try as an option. I would only do it if other people I was with wanted to do it to. Because I wouldn't want to go by myself and be alone on Christmas. Maybe this year I will try it if our guests leave early enough. But knowing my family that is not really likely. [cripfemme]
Never gone to the movies on Christmas day - on boxing day yes but not Christmas. It always amazes me when things in the city are open on Christmas day because in the town i live in..everything closed for Christmas day...sometimes even boxing day depending on the day Christmas falls on. [saundyl]
It is nice to have the time off, but the extra hours would be stressful during the month of December. I was thinking about taking this whole week off but it's super cold here and my other half works so there wasn't much point, I would be pretty bored! [jesssp]
wish to spend the christmas night in mass then some sleep in the morning....then a family lunch...rest...relax...prayer on this holiday [yoursonlyurs]
I have actually never been to see a movie on Christmas day. When I was a kid, Christmas was this huge, big deal that took all freaking day, so there was never any time to go see a movie. [phoenix25]
