Do You Like To Watch Movies In Other Languages With English Sub-titles

I watched a similar Japanese movie yesterday..Actually I was just browsing through my TV channels to find an interesting program wherein I came across the movie. I liked it and watched the entire movie..Do you have such an experience? Do you like to watch movies in other languages with English sub-titles? Will you enjoy it?

I don't usually enjoy foreign movies with English subtitles, or even English movies with foreign subtitles (too distracting). I have, however, watched one movie in Spanish with English subs and absolutely LOVED it. It was called Pan's Labyrinth. Only subtitled movie I've ever enjoyed, and it was amazing. [gamechief]
yes, it happens very rarely..I too never sit altogether to watch a movie - be it in my own language..But certain movies are so good that they make us sit for a while.. [smilyn]

No I watch movies only in Hindi and English because I don't know any other language. [PRIYANK1992]

I like watching movies in other languages. In fact, when I travel to countries in different parts of the world, that's the chance to watch movies of the country in their language. I watched Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Thai, German, French. [greenline]

I tried doing this but it's very hard. I either look at the screen and try to understand what's going on or I read the subtitles and miss out on what's showing. I really prefer movies to be dubbed. Using my eyes and looking at both the picture and words is just too much work. SO if it's a foreign film then I might not be excited to watch it anymore. [mimico]
ha..ha..that happens at many times.. [smilyn]

hii frends....ya...i love to watch movies alot....apart from the normal movies which i see...i love to watch the movied with english sub titles.....if the movie is funny....or if i like the direction or the screen play...or some thing about which i like in the movie.....it is very funny...if u r not done wid it...then try and have a look at it....u will love for sure.....thanq.....happy mylotting... [rajueie]

I do. I watch korean dramas in english subs. I love their dramas. In the beginning, I couldn't stand my sisters and parents watching subtitled movies/dramas. Now I'm into them, only if they're good. I haven't watched a good one in a long time. There are good ones out there. I am not too into japanese movies or their dramas. I thought too weird for me. After this post, you make me want to go look for a good drama and watch it. I'm in for a good cry. haha. [alibabes]

It's okay with me to watch foreign movies with Engslish subtitles, only if the movie is good. But I prefer to watch English movie and movie from my country. It's hard to watch movie with subtitles. Most of the time I pay more attention on reading the subtitles than watching the scene. But still get the what is the story all about. It seems like I am not watch. Its like I'm only reading a book. God Bless, take care and happy mylotting! [tikei18]
That is the only problem with sub titled movies. We would be reading the conversations and may miss out the scenes.. [smilyn]

I enjoyed it. It's better than you have nothing to read on when the actors are speaking in language you cannot understand. With the help of subtitles, I can managed to get the latest series and anime especially from Japan and Korea. I just simply loves their stories. [cocooreo]

I had watched Shutter, a thai horror movie with english subtitles and had really enjoyed it. I the direction is good and the actors have good and comprehensible expressions which goes with the subtitles then watching a movie with subtitles doesn't bother me..I will surely enjoy it.. Have a nice day! [arthi_88]

Well, there are time when i watch movies in a different language but with sub-titles... i think two of them are Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and Hero... i did not wait for these two movies to be dubbed in english because i so wanted to watch them... there are also some not so popular but beautiful movies dubbed in other languages that i watched... but i do not remember their titles... [aseretdd]

sometimes i watched movie in other languages with sub-titles but i found myself so hard to understand lols...i must prefer to watched English and also my our own movies because i feel enjoy to watched especially those laughter movies... [jelai24]

I am a lazy wolf and to be honest I steer clear of any program or film with subtitles I prefer just to relax and watch the film not concentrate on the text on the screen, it's being multi-skilled and I can't do that when watching tv. Even if it's a film that looks good or a good write up, I still won't watch it if it's got subtitles. [wolfie34]

I don't like to watch movies in languages which I don't understand even if they contain subtitles...watching movies with subtitles distracts me and I find myself reading the subtitles rather than watching the movie itself... [piyushbehera25]

Yes, I do like to watch foreign films particularly when the story plot it got was quite interesting, well as long as the subtitles were pretty good. The problem with buying pirated cd, sometimes we get a not so good and gibberish subtitles that even though the movie was quite good, cant appreciate it. lol But I really like to watched foreign films, especially Japanese films too, very interesting and the movies were quite good too. happy [kylie_quistis]
haha.. i guess pirated cds are the same everywhere, huh ;) the place where i bought the cd allow us to play it first there, and after that decide whether we like to buy or not. Thing is, sometimes the scene in which i saw got the subs all make sense. And then back in my place, i started to frown for not understand it hehe... Such movies are: elizabeth the golden age (i found it hard to understand british english accent), dont mess with the zohan, and even kungfu panda lol Practically everything with heavy accent i gave up (kungfu panda got panda-accent *self defense* lol) [goldflower]

Well, i'm not from english speaking country, so lots of movie i watched are subtitled ;) And with that 'decades-of-experience' i can cockily say that i can read subs pretty fast. So when the actor really saying them, i know the meaning already. I dont really mind what kind of language they're using as the subs, as long i understand the language (and since i only know two language, that's very limited really ;) ) I think sometimes the subtitle can help you understand other language. What i meant was, i once watched bollywood movie with malaysian subtitle. Now, indonesian and malaysian language are not just slightly different. So there are some words that i dont understand, but i make assumption and when i next watched another bollywood movie with malaysian subtitle, i understand the words. I found that watching movie in other language can also expand your language. I watched japanese anime and i should say that after a while, i understand some words without looking at the subtitle. You know, like, "sumimasen' (i dont know whether that's the right pronoun, that's the way i heard it :P) or "gomenasai" or the simple "arigato" When i watched chinese soap opera (with subs of course!) i can also pick words from there. It's like reading agatha christie's hercule poirot series! I picked up french words from there (though i dont know how to say them lol) Oh my, i think i'm OOT! sorry! So to back to to the topic: Yes, i like watching movies in other language with english subs. And i would even prefer watching english movies with english subs :D [goldflower]
Oh, wow... your friend must have a really good knack on language for being able to speak a language just by watching movies!! Kudos for her!! The thing with bollywood movies here, it's either being voiced over to my national language when it's aired in the local tv station, or it has malaysian subs (like i mentioned before) when i watched it on cd, so there goes my chance in learning urdu through movies ;) *assuming you are really from india *my pakistani colleague once told me that the language in bollywood movies is urdu **i hope i assumed the right thing. Will be very embarrassing if not :P [goldflower]

i do. i live in canada and french is one of our official languages (english is the other) so, i have watched french movies with english subtitles. i am a history fanatic and also like to watch war movies, so i have watches german movies (hubby is german and sometimes i can get the basic idea of the sentance, but the subtitles do help!) [cher913]

i don't enjoy other foreigh movies because it's kind of hard to focus your attention in reading sub-titles.. i have seen some chinese movies and they were great but reading the english subtitles made me feel dizzy at all. [gracie04]

I guess because most movies I watch with my children and the boys can't read well enough for sub titles, I usually prefer movies that we all can enjoy and that would be english speaking ones. However my daughter has recently gotten into some anime and stuff where there is a lot of sub titles and she still really enjoys watching it. I really enjoyed The orphanage and a couple other spainish films where there weren't any sub-titles at all but my whole family enjoyed them. If it is a good film it can break the language barrier. [vicki2876]

I prefer watching movies with english subtitle rather having the movie dubbed in english. Their expression changes when they dubbed. For example, I watched a korean movie called "My sassy girl". They dubbed it in tagalog. It was funny but I think it was funnier when they were speaking korean. [king4aday]

If the movie is good then i would like to watch it. As long as the translation are not so fast that i need to chase reading the translation lol I have watch korean movies too and so far i like it. They have interesting love stories too. [belk89]

I do the reverse, English as language and Swedish as the subtitle. (By being a Swed, that wouldn't be too surprising, I hope.) But when I watch Japanese movies, it must be Japanese language with Swedish subtitle. Because I've had too many experiences with movies having very weird voice actors for the not-original language. But once I watched a movie with Danish speech, because Danish are quite similar to Swedish, so I understood most of the things. :) Happy myLotting, Smilyn! [stardustkp]

I think movies with sub titles suck! I saw one movie in the theater once. I believe it was "crotching tiger". Besides the fact I didn't really care for the movie, I didn't know it was in subtitles. You have to read the bottom of the screen and pay attention to the movie as well. If you turn your head, look away for one second you're screwed. I don't really care for movies that are in subtitles. The old kung fu movies are cool, maybe it's because I grew up watching them, plus the fact everyone knows none of the actors are going to be speaking english and it will be done in a voice overs. I can deal with the voice over, but subtitles I hate. [stinge]

Yup, i like watching animes so i have to say yes to this... haha... sometimes i surf channels on cable and if it has subtitles and it interests me then of course i'll watch it... =) [owstalaga]

well there is one movie i like that is in subtitles. its kung fu hustle. it is extremely hilarious. [x0x0fatx0x0]

I would like to , I love watching films with other langages , specially the french ones , because I'm learning it , and watching movies from this kind help me a lot to accumulate vocabulary , expressions , grammar rules ... any way , each film has its own caracter ,and one of the most important caracter is the "langage".. Generally I like watching all kinds of movie , the english ones , the french ones , the japanes ones ,... and each of it gives different pleasures from the others. [cossacks10]

me too.i am also a fan of japanese and other asian movies with English sub-titles.I like the action movies and the anime.Of course the chick-flicks are also great.I really enjoy watching them.Actually im in the middle in watching a Japanese anime about a boxer.I realy find Asian movies and films interesting and geart to watch. [JOIEMARVIC]

I'm fond of watching Korean movies with subtitle especially those romantic movies, the plot is always heartwarming and heartbreaking :) [workinggurl]

Yeah. I do it all the time. Love to learn other languages also. You can guess the meaning of certain words by listening and reading. But you sometimes did not understand the movie in the end. [zalilame]

I don't mind it a bit. Foreign movies are often superior to the crap America churns out and the subtitles are just a minor inconvenience for me. [dragon54u]
