I know many people Love to go watch movies at the Theater, and sometimes they even use this as an excuse for Dating, or just a night together with Family, etc. But with the prices on most movies over $10 when they first come out most places, I really wonder how many of us will go out and watch a movie in a Theater or do you wait until it comes out in Video and Rent it, or buy it. But then sometimes you could be missing a lot of special effects they show in the movies that your TV at home will never display as well.
Personally, I am not one for going to the Theater and spending my hard earned $$ there. I have never been one to go to the theater either. For me, it is a lot cheaper to wait until they come to DVD, and either rent them, or buy them. And since a lot of places here now rent movies for $1 you can see 10 movies for the price of one admission ticket in a theater, so that is a lot of savings as well. And if it turns out to be a movie I just have to have, we will either go buy it somewhere, or wait until somewhere has the movie previously viewed, and buy it then as well. Then you can watch the movie over and over again not having to worry about extra expenses as well.
Right now I am sure there are some Good movies we really want to see, but I will wait until they are on DVD and save me some $$ for other things out there as well.

Too expensive for the family budget. We use Netflix. It is nice to have the movies delivered. To be on the nice comfy couch suits me just fine. And it saves a bunch of money. Theatre visits are now for special ocasions. [ersmommy1]
We are not fond of Netflix. That is why we rent from the $1 machines, and such now if we really need to see something, and then wait to buy it when it is previously viewed as well. [KrauseHome]
I love going to the movies, but rarely get to go. I now watch a lot of movies on my computer. [OreoCookie3]
witht he costs of going out to a movie. I would much rather watch a Free movie at home. You can go to the local library and take out all the free movies that you want. I like to be able to hear that movie, if I go the theater to mnany talkers and folks moving around. I can't hear.. At home if Can re-wind if i miss sometiing or want to re-hear a scene. [LouiseKnittel]
Hi there!happy Yeah, watching movies nowadays is too expensive. I have considered it a luxury ever since cause I'm not into watching movies in theaters. Besides the expenses on tickets and snacks, I don't like crowded places so I'd rather watch it at home. I don't mind if some of the special effects doesn't look so special on TV screens and the sounds aren't that good. For me, the story is what I'm after for. It's also ok for me even if I've watched the movie after a few years it was shown. I buy DVDs and CDs as a collection too. Ciao!wink [iskayz]
The only time I tend to go to the theater is when the company pays my way to take clients. I fall asleep if we rent them at home, but I will watch movies on movie night at work.I am like you, and I want to spend that money elsewhere. [GardenGerty]
I typically have the patience to wait for a movie to come out on DVD. I'm not hooked on the whole "theater experience" that some people are. If it's a movie I'm really really interested in, I will pick it up at the release price. Most of the time, though, I look through lower priced movie sections like Wal-Mart's $5 movie bin/rack and see what I can pick up there. I am picky about having to have a widescreen format so nothing has to get cut as would if it was "formatted to fit your screen". I dislike renting just because of the hassle. If I want to watch a movie right now, I don't want to have to go out and rent it. And I do watch movies on a repeat basis, as well, and don't want to go out and back this week, and then have the urge for the same movie and have to go out and get it again 2 or 3 weeks from now. My $0.02 at the moment. [ElementalDragon]
i loving watching movies in theater bcos i use to enjoy seeing movies with my friends always... [raja2020_2020]
LIKEWISE... I prefer buying dvd or vcd for the reason of being cheaper plus the fact that I can watch the movie all over again. But if I want to spent a private time with my girlfriend... I prefer watching movies in a theater instead. :) [Jhordie]
The experience of watching a movie in a theatre with friends and family, i feel cannotbe replicated at home. And there are some movies , especially the thriller types or the one with special effects which i enjoy more at a theatre. Having said this, the convenience factor then comes in. At home whatch what you want, when you want and of course it is much cheaper to do so. [alokn99]
hello KrauseHome, When I was still single, I used to watch movies in the theater. But when I have already my family, I prefer to watch it at home. This way, we can not only watch the movies for a lot of times but also we can watch more movies too. Besides, you can do lie down while watching. Can also eat what you want and can pause if you have an emergency call. Also I don't need to worry for a lot of things like being late in going home, no seat available, might not see it properly for the person infront of me is much taller than me and after the movie, have to wait for a while to avoid accidents, people and the likes. In other words it's worry free. But most important of all is that I/we can save a lot of money. Indeed big screen is much better to watch plus the fact that the sound there is perfect, but I'm already contented of what we have at home, have this boss home theater sound and it's more than perfect for me. [robert19ph]
I do not enjoy going to the movie, for one, it is always cold in the theater, and I can never get as comfortable as I would like, when watching a movie. I can not even remember the last time I went to a movie, plus they are so costly. I prefer to watch a movie from the comfort of my own home where I can relax, and if I happen to fall asleep on it, I am not regretting paying money for something I did not see. [sudalunts]
I prefer to watch movies at home. In theaters, the admission is so expensive whereas when youe rent DVDs or VCDs, it's a lot cheaper. You can watch as many times as you want. I am very comforatable watching movies at home. Sometimes I am just lying on the floor or eating many foods while watching. I would say that watching movies in theaters is really different because the screen is so big. It's really beautiful. But then I am so practical. I need so save money. Have a nice day! [don_naces]
Why not applicating home theatre? if you don't want to miss the special effect happy i just go to theatre when there is a really good movie play at the cinema, when i consider it as common movie, i'll wait for the DVD rather than watching it at cinema happy [maxilimian]
I do not go to theater but I get to be most exciting than home TV, I like the big screen and the environment, the other thing is that I do enjoy acting when I watch it when being acted but not after screening. Although it some how expensive comapred to TV viewing because the expenses you will incur like fee, and transport. Home TV is very cheap and economical whereby you do not have to travel and pay for entry fee. [oderog]
watching movies at theatre would be great but i still prefer watching movies at home since it's more practical and convinient.. good thing, video house is just across our condo so renting out forlatest DVD films is hassle-free.. [gracie04]
I know what you mean! the price of movies are just getting higher and higher...I paid $16 last time I went for a normal adult ticket. However, there is an experience to going to the movies. The experience, big screen, surround sound...and i guess as the price of the ticket gets higher so does the quality of the cinemas. Some of the cinemas are now styled in a fashion that competes with 5 star hotels. Going to the cinemas~ not an everday event, but definately an experience to be enjoyed. [sigstar]
I prefer watching at home. I do not know I am not very comfortable at theater. i feel awkward. so its bettr for me to watch at home leisurely [subha12]
i like to watch the movies on first day of the movie release in Theater [onlinejalsa4u]
i am also like you.i prefer to watch it at home.unless it is a superhit movie and i wish to spend some time with my friends. [riyasam]
That depends on the movie, if it looks really good, then i will usually go see it in the theater, but if it doesnt look that good, or i just dont feel like going out and spending the $$, then i will download it, or wait for it to come out on dvd. [lampshad3]
same here. i just cant stand the idea of spending that much money for 1 movie that odds are, i wont like..or will turn out nowhere near as good as the commercials lol! and that happens often enough with the movies i rent! we use the Netflix service. i get unlimited rentals a month 3 out at a time..for $20. say i only get to watch 3 movies each week..turn around time is faster than that, but just for arguements sake lol... so thats 12 movies a month divided by $20..which works out to only $1.67 EACH! with no late fees. and thats even New Releases! if i went to like Hollywood video and rented them there..at $4. Per movie (back in like 4 days i think) that would cost me $48 a month for those same 12 movies! talk about a money saver lol! besides, i like being able to pause the movie when i need to use the bathroom etc etc. or when someone starts talking lol! [CinderInMySoul]
I watch movie in Theater only... There only can experience a clear sound effects... [smtmkr87]
Costs aside, I'd definitely prefer to watch movies at the theater. I don't have a huge projection screen and home theater system at home, so I can never get the same kind of effects I get at the theaters. The difference in the movie experience is very stark if the shows are those that are rich in effects and graphics. In recent months, I was sponsored some tickets and watched 10,000 B.C. and Indiana Jones at the theaters, and I really enjoyed the large screen and sound effects. I will never be the same watching these movies at home. For those movies without such effects, I'll probably watch the DVD at home because that will probably be cheaper. Ticket prices at the theaters are not cheap these days. [lexus54]
I love the theater- but sometimes home is better because you can rewind and watch your favorite parts over. [minx267]
I prefer to watch a movie at home. It´s much cheaper, and you can take a break when you want [ennasus59]
I much prefer to watch a movie at home in the comfort of my favorit chair these days. Yes, it is very expensive to take the family to the theaters today. If you take your family to the theater they think they have to have popcorn candy and drinks and that really adds up because that is were the theater really makes their profit. I haven't tried those $$ vending machines that are in the grocery stores yet. When watching a movie at home if you happen to miss something you can go back to catch it. At the theater people around you like to whisper.cry Then you have them trampling on your feet as they leave the row to vivt the confection counters in the lobby. Besides if it's a good drama you can watch it again to get the full effect of the movie. So for me viewing movies at home is much better than at the theater.happy [deebomb]
I do like to watch movie at home for everybody in the house can watch with me too. It can cost a lot of saving for me and most of all everybody injoying watching movie at home. I also watch movie in the theater but only 4 time a year to save some money. Happy posting. [Margarit]
Me too, watching movies in theater more expensive, I always choose to watching movies at home. And also can the movies together with my friend or family. [my125125]
hello my fellow myLotter, i enjoy watching movies at home. i don't go to the movies anymore. i wait for the movie to be on demand and watch it that way. in the comfort of my own home. i don't rent movies no more because i don't like to go there and the movie i want to see is all checked out. with purchasing the movie on demand i can watch it for sure. happy posting! [caskins]
if i had the budget then i would love to watch it in the theater, but if my budget is short, i'd rather wait for the dvd copy to come out and then buy it to watch it at home. i used to watch movies a lot. i still love to be able to do so but am just too busy. [cookieweber]
I prefer watching movies in Theaters..... I don't see movies in the computer or in home, even in the wide screen or home theaters...... coz, we don't get the cinematic effect, when we watch in the HOME THEATERS..... [arunmails]
I love watching movies at home.It is so expensive to go to the movies.I love to curl up next to my spouse and enjoy a good movie at home. [jackiew]
I prefer movies at home, most of the time. The cost of the tickets are rediculous for 1st-release movies. It's $12in my area, or $36 for my family of 3. For that amount of money, we watch at home and get pizza to go with it. Once in a while a movie comes out that really looks better on a big screen. In those instances, we wait for it to go to the 2nd release theaters, where tickets are usually $2, or $1 on Tuesdays. [catdla1]
I prefer to watch movies at home after they are on DVD for several reason. Number 1 it is alot cheaper. Number 2 The popcorn is cheaper and Number 3 I can pause the movie and not miss anything if I have to go the bathroom. [Firefly99]
I much prefer to watch movies from the comfort of my own home. Watching them at home, I am able to lay down on the couch and relax. Besides, if I happen to miss any parts, I am able to rewind the movie and watch it again. If you go to the theater, you're out of luck it you miss any parts. [lynnemg]
definitely at home... i seldom go to the theater unless if i got free movie ticket from my company or my hubby's company as the price is ridiculously high... i prefer to watch it on my computer or DVD... it is much cheaper and more relaxing... and with recession time like this, we have to be really smart in using our money and going to the theatre is one of the expenses that i can cut because i think it is unnecessary... take care and have a nice day... [lingli_78]
I do not usually go to the theatres. First of all because of the money, I am a starving college student of course, and because I do not like being in the theatres. I do not feel comfortable and get anxiety when I sit in theatres. [rvangeld]
Hey Tina... I highly prefer watching movies at home for a number of reasons. In fact, I can't even remember what the last movie is that I went to see in a theater but I suspect it was Tim Allen in The Santa Clause in the mid 90s. w00t [katiedoubleu]
its always nice to go to the movie theatre...but, in my opinion, there is nothing like sitting down with your family in a place that you are completely comfortable in and just turn on a movie [jakekap]
It depends what kind of mood I'min and how much moolah I have. Theators are way expensive, but I like the experience and u can see it much sooner than if you wait til it comes out on dvd. I always sneak in my own treats though. I like to go to drive-ins. They are the best, but now I have no car, so I can't go as much. I like to watch movies on the internet a lot. Though my computer chair isnt very comfy and i dont have a laptop. Sometimes I like to stay in though. Whenever I get sick, I always watch a lot of movies at home. Never tried netflix or anything like that though. I think I would hate that cuz yougot to wait at least a day. I am not patient. ya, well I'm rambling on, so ya. [_sketch_]
We don't go to the movie theater. The last time we went was when we were dating so that's been over 10 yrs ago. I fell asleep halfway thru the movie! Total waste of money. It's cheaper anymore to just wait for the DVD and rent it, then if it's a keeper buy it. We have surround sound hooked up to our DVD player so we get great sound and great picture on the tv. We can eat and drink anything we want and pause it if we have take potty break or get a phone call. No worries about a tall guy in a hat sitting in front of you, some idiot kicking the back of your chair, kids throwing popcorn, sticky wet disgusting floors and the list goes on. No thanks! I want my comfy couch, comfy jammies, comfy food and snuggling with my comfy hubby. [craftcatcher]
I like it at home, once again, it is cheaper, meaning I can save some money at this point. I will still go out to movies every once in a while. The big screen experience is great, but I like my money! [danrunsfast614]
I would prefer to watch movies at the theater; but prices are just to high. By the time you pay for admission, buy popcorn and soda for the kids you have spent a mint. So we enjoy watching movies on the internet. Movie streaming is very big right now, and you can watch new releases. All you need is a high speed connection. It does save me money; and the family doesn't have to sacrifice their entertainment. [venus7992000]
I personally love watching movies at home. I cannot sit through a whole movie in a theater. They are usually either way to cold or too hot. Also way pay a ton of money to see a money when you can easily wait two or three month for the DVD to come out and buy it for the same amount to go out and see. Plus you can make your own yummy snacks. [jeoestreich]
I rarely go to the theatre. I'll go maybe if it is a family members birthday or something like that. Just as a special treat. It is much cheaper to wait until the movie comes out and just buy it. Not to mention it is much more comfortable to watch a movie all sprawled out on my comfy couch with my bowl of popcorn! [marcialoyd]
frankly, i prefer watching the movies at home a lot. Now, i think it is so convenient to watch the movies online with my computer. No cost to me.It is the first point, secondly, i can see the one which i like randomly without limit.and i can watch the movies in any time i choose.if i couldn't sleep well in night, i will watch the movies to spend the bored time till i feel tired, then to have the sweet sleep..of course,if there is a friend together with me, in order to have a good atmosphere,i will go to the threat to watch movies with my friend. It is better. happy mylotting. happyhappyhappy [successlog]
I do prefer to watch movies at theatres because there will be lot of sound effects around and ill get satisfaction if i watch there along with my friends and family!!! I dont prefer watching movies at homw because i feel somehow and i dont get that movie environment [aditya540]
I only watch in the theater if my friends invite me to. It cost a lot and you can only watch it once. Although yeah, it's nice watching with big screen with the good sound system and effect, we can somehow convert our living room into some sort of theater-like. Don't you think so? But if my parents want to watch as well, we'll buy the DVD. Coz, they dont like spending money to the theater. What we usually do is, get a DVD, off or dimmed the lights, on the air-cond, prepare some popcorns and drinks, all in the living room and watch together with high volume. It would somehow get the atmosphere-like of a theather. =P [snoopie123]
I know that a lot of people like to watch movies in theaters especially on a special occasion such as a date or birthday or as a family event which are good reasons to go to a theater, and some people prefer to watch movies at home on either television or on DVD,me and my fiance like going to the movie theater from time to time, but it is getting so expensive that we only go when there is something we really want to see playing, and the last movie we went to the theaters to see was Indiana Jones 4 which was well worth the money to see,and I would have gladly paid to see it again, we usually prefer to either catch a movie on television or go the movie rental store every now and again and rent a couple of movies, and either watch them alone in our room,or watch them in the den with my parents if it is something they want to see or watch them alone in the den when my mom is asleep and my dad is at work, because they have a bigger television in the den,and they also have surround sound which adds to the movie experience. [hellcowboy]
The theater is nice but at the prices they are charging to get in and for snacks. Your better off waiting for the dvd to come out and watch it at home. Now if you have PPV then you can wait for it. Anything that comes out in the movies; after it's on dvd it come on PPV. So I would rather watch a movie at home. [twallace]
I generally prefer watching movies at home. It is cheaper, often quieter and more comfortable than going to a movie theater. That still turns out to be true usually even if you buy the movie, since movie tickets run about $7. [wilsongoddard]
I rent movies and add the new releases to my list at my online rental site. I do love to go to the movies and if there is a movie that I think will only be good on a big screen, I might go depending on my level of interest. I have to be really really gung ho on that movie though. If three of us go at $10.00 apiece plus popcorn, it's so expensive. And if the movie turns oot not to be as good as I thought it would be, I end up regretting the trip to the theater completely. [whittby]
If it's something I really want to see or that has a lot of action, I prefer to see it first in the theater. Comedies or straight dramas without any action are just as easy to enjoy from the couch. The next movie I am planning to see in the theater is Twilight because even if the movie itself turns out to be unworthy of the ticket price, Jackson Rathbone's gorgeous green eyes on the big screen will be TOTALLY worth it hehe. I might see something else between now and then but that's the next one I am definitely going to pay to see. [crimsonladybug]
My husband and I stopped going to movies years ago. I think in the last 10 years we may have gone one time: it was a movie that was advertised on the History Channel and we and some friends love those kind of non-fictions. But we didn't stop going because of the money. I am shocked to learn how much you say it costs today! We stopped going because of the dirty and sticky floors, the old seats which weren't being replaced and the distance we needed to travel from our new home at the time. We subscribe to satellite and there is a wide selection of pay views of movies not too soon after they hit the big screen. We also have a collection of DVDs of our favorite movies when we want a movie fix. Truthfully, and the main reason we aren't in the theater watching movies, we prefer watching history, true stories, educational channels and political comedy. Thanks for the question Tina. [patweber]
I would prefer watching movie at home with family, Nowadays all new films pirated CDs we get. so that the movies is watched at home. If we go to the theatre we waise more money and time for traveling. How also watching at theatre and home is different case. Happy posting and have a nice day. [nini89]
I prefer to watch DVDs at home. First I watch them for free or at a lesser price than theatre and secondly I can watch them at my own leisure. However I do prefer to see action films with lots of special effects at the theatre. © ronaldinu 2008 [ronaldinu]
well, it's a lot cheaper if i will just stay at home then watching my favorite movies than going to theater. For me, it's just a wasted time, effort and money. I will wait until movies is already available in the market. or i will search it thru online. if i will find one i will gonna download it and begin watching. [worldbestwriter2008]
I prefer watching movies at home and not in theatre. At home, one can watch freely. In the theatre, you cannot feel free. [Indrajit_25]
I'm so sorry for coming in so late. I always like to watch movies in the privacy and comfort of my home, which save my lot of time and traffic and other problems. [suruchi86]
Hello Tina. It is more than ten years since I last went to a cinema for a movie. I love to watch movies at home as it is quiet and economic without having to pay that much to watch them in a cinema. Now you know, there are so many movies on line and we can just watch them on line. It is much more convenient and frugal. I also have a lot of DVDs at home. Good day. [williamjisir]
sure, i prefer watching movies at home.as a matter of fact, the last time for me to went to the cinima is more than five years.it is considered of convenience and economic,so we are busy with working and other Trivia.so that we prefer to stay at home on weekends in order to get a good relax, watching moives with DVD or on line directly.as you know, the movies on line always update very quickly. good luck and have a nice day! [haiershen]
I used to LOVE going to the movie theater.. you know, when I was a teenager. Now, I despise it! You drop most likely a minimum of $20 for two of you to get in the door... 2 medium sodas and a popcorn is another $15! For $35 bucks, at most video stores, I can go buy 3 or 4 movies (on special) and make dinner and provide a snack! Plush, you get to sit in more comfortable "chairs" at home, if its a romance or whatever you can snuggle up to your honey a lot easier then at the theater.. and its just more intamate. Also, my girlfriends and I have had WAY more fun movie nights at home then at the theater. Sex in the City, endless daquari's and comfy pajamas galore! That's the life right there! [shell2784]
