Just curious how many people pay the high prices for snack food at the movie theater and how many of you sneak in your own food. I have gone as far to buy a special big purse that we use to sneak things in. In the end I pay less even though I had to buy a purse. Then we go to Walmart and buy the candy for $1 a box. It is $3 a box at the movies. Sometimes I will also sneak sodas in depending on our mood. If we have the cash then we buy popcorn. I have never snuck that in though.

responses and comments:
I brought baby carrots in with me two weeks ago -- they definitely don't sell those at the counter :-) My husband bought popcorn and a soda, but the prices really are ridiculous. [kellyp513]
My sister one time brought in homemade snack mix and she was crunching so loudly that I was really embarrassed. Have any of you had this experience? My best friend always brings in her own water, even if I offer to buy her one! I usually buy a soda or popcorn when I am there and go to the cheaper movie. [AnythngArt]
yes i am - but i have not been into theather for quite sometime now - i just rent or buy dvd to watch at home . [julie0825]
Well being a x manager of a movie theater i would not bring food to the movies. But some of the pepole ive caught bringing in stuff. ( priceless). Ive had pepole pretend they are handicap trying to bring food in. :):) [fatannasty]
Oh, definitely! ^_^ A friend and i once even brought in microwaved food in plastic containers and ate it at a movie! *laugh* That was fun *laugh* The prices of concessions at movie theatres today are just insanely high. I went to the movies a week or two ago and just brought some little candies for myself. I've never gone so far as to sneak in popcorn, either.. but then I'm not a real big fan of the stuff *laugh* [shywolf]
Yes we do that all the time. We only sneek in candy and once some water. But in the end my son still wanted stuff from the theater. But my husband got his candy, way cheaper at the Walmart next to the theater. lol. And I have a big purse too, can you imagine trying to sneek in popcorn and have it steamming out of your purse and you get busted, that is one thing that I am not sneeking into the movies [soldenski]
haha...when I read the part about the steam I got such a funny image in my head. Too funny. I can see me doing something like that. "Ma'am either your purse is on fire or you have popcorn in there." What would one say to that? lol [blogyourself]
We almost always sneak stuff in. My husband sees that as the only benefit of me carrying a purse! When we take the kids, we bring a snack bar for each of them and sometimes a juice box--far more nutritious than what we can buy there. We're fairly frugal people and can't justify the price of popcorn and soda at theaters. It's highway robbery--especially after paying the ridiculously high price for the tickets. If they're going to screw us--please pick one or the other--not both (tickets and food). [ktroth]
We definately sneek snacks into the theatre! If we did not we could not affors to go. At $7 a movie, and $4 for a small popcorn, it's outrageous. I too go to Wal-Mart, and have that big purse that doubles as a beach bag.lol My kids use to say they were embarassed, but now they get what they want, and don't have to worry about me fussing about the cost. We have never been busted either. That would be hilarious. My oldest would probably deny even knowing me.lol [amafrias]
Yeah, we definitely sneak in our own food and drink at the movies. It's ridiculous! Where I live, it's like 7 dollars to see the movie, and a small popcorn is 4 dollars...it's crazy! You need to bring like an extra 25 bucks with you...ridiculous. [theaterjunkie]
I gotta tell you that I do not sneak snacks into the theater because, well, first of all, I LOVE movie popcorn!! Second, the theater we go to is a restoration effort in a very small town. Movies are three dollars, and a large popcorn with two large pops is $5. Now, there's not a lot of choice...only one movie showing, open only on weekends. But, It is totally run by volunteers interested in bringing this peice of town history back to life that they are not worried about price. What a great life! [djb876]
That's really neat! and it keeps prices down! but i think i prefer the large theater with lots of choices! [jsgrand0]
When I was younger, and went to a lot of movies at theaters, I would sneek in some snacks. Much much cheaper. [Gambler2]
Well, i usually pay for pop corn and a drink then sneak candy in...so i dont feel totally bad for sneaking in snacks, i know the reason why its soo high is because of people sneaking in snacks but i mean really what did they expect people to do?! Anyways, I try to even it out so i dont feel guilty later on. after all im paying the ticket to see the movie, and buying a large popcorn and a large drink...thats well over 20 bucks there! [thekiwi]
drink is bloody expensieve inside..so i buy from outside n take inside..popcorn is Ok..! [bandarfromidesir]
lol,I did that when I was younger. I don't go to the movies now, I can't still that long...Yet, I can on here??? go figure! But, anyways, my old man takes the kids to the movies and he does it! Do you know how much it would cost to buy 7 growing boys snacks, OMG!!! I know it's wrong, and Lord, I apologize...but it's a treat for the kids to go....And we will usually buy the drinks from there, so they are making their money from us anyhow...ugh [Stephanie5]
Sure do! I buy the movie theater popcorn no matter what the cost because there is nothing better that eating it at the show. I do almost always bring drinks though because I will not pay $4-5 for a soda. Candy is something I bring if the kids are with me and I do the same thing and buy the big size at the Dollar Store [brightbluesea]
I have to say that I always used to buy candy from Blockbuster, too (and I see a lot of people doing that too) then one day I was at the dollar store and they had the exact same candy as at Blockbuster for much cheaper, so now Blockbuster has lost my business with the candy. [AnythngArt]
Is it not allowed to bring your own snacks there in your country? It's okay here. I always bring my own snacks because buying in theatre is too expensive. Three times the actual price, I think I should think twice before buying it lol. Cheers! [chiquitita]
The prices are pretty outrageous--did you know that theaters make more money on concessions than on the movie admission? It's true. I try to eat before the movie, or I bring in a candy bar or Powerbar. I'm trying to eat healthier and aside from being expensive, theater food is salty, fatty, not at all healthy. [Idlewild]
Don't know the exact breakdown, but the studio gets part of the ticket price, part of it goes for renting the prints, etc. [Idlewild]
Oh yes, I've pulled that trick many times. We always hit up the Meijer across the street before we go. Every penny counts, especially when you end up paying almost $10 just to see the movie in the first place. I usually end up buying popcorn or a pretzel, and soda at the theatre though. Depending on my mood. [suchasucker]
If I am going to the theater. i will buy mostly soda and some popcorn. [anja31]
Absolutely, I have many times. Ten dollars for a soda and popcorn is ridiculous. [aquariancore]
i rarely buy snacks at theatre. Ill buy only when i feel hungry.May be if the movie is too boring imay buy something to spend time... [anilreddy12001]
i once even brought in microwaved food in plastic containers and ate it at a movie!*laugh* That was fun*laugh* The prices of concessions at movie theatres today are just insanely high. [sabarinadh]
I use to, I think watching movies in the theater is not complete if you dont eat snacks. My favorite snacks on the theater is popcorn for thats the only time I can eat popcorn. [anne_143god]
I do! Most of the time I jsut take a bottled drink because their drinks are just so darn expensive! Some time I'll take chex mix or some other snack/candy too. [JashleyB]
Candy is also good while watching a movie. But I always make sure that a brought a bottle of water with me to hydrate myself. [bubblesheun]
Yes, sometimes I do that for a reason that I want to be more practical with what I bought. At the theater the snack foods are very expensive I usually brought along a bottle of water with me aside from the soda and popcorn.I can do it along with my friends and its a lot of fun especially if we spent less money for our snacks. [bubblesheun]
Where I live we're actually allowed to bring in outside food and drinks, which makes it nicer and cheaper to go to the movies. The theater is also one of the cheaper ones around meaning instead of paying $8.50 a ticket its only $6.50 and $5.00 if you're a student or military. [driekons_angel]
Me and my girlfriend always sneak candy and drinks into the theater. There is a dollar store right beside the theater so we get drinks for 70 cents instead of 4 something. We also get 2 chocolate bars for under 2 bucks at the dollar store. [benks420]
yes, I do. Candy, chips, drinks. When the door opens I jump cause I think it's one of the people coming in to check and will see that I have brought them. I'm waiting anytime now for them to search everyone before they let you in to see if you are carrying any food stash! lol But I agree the prices are ridiculous! They do that so you have to buy from them at their prices and make a huge profit! They KNOW you HAVE to eat while you're in there! Great discussion starter!! [carolynpb]
I think it is very unfair on part of the theatres to charge almost triple for food items than the normal MRP which is charged by retailers.Though , I would like to get in the food from outside , in the theatres here , they don't allow outside foodstuffs to be taken inside as they frisk everyone before they enter the theatres. I think something has to be done about this and food items sold inside the theatre should be sold at no extra cost. [spitfire147]
No, I don't often go to theater, but if I go I usually don't sneak snacks into the theater.because i don't think it is convenience. [epizzahut]
No,I don't buy snacks.By chance i feel like carrying food i will carry food prepared in my home. [manojgadiyar]
First I rarely ever go to movies anymore, they are just way to high priced and the snacks are insane. When I was a kid they had drive in's and double features. Now you pay for one movie and the concessions are just too expensive. Popcorn we usually buy one big tub, we take in our drinks, water or soda, and candy bars or other stuff, yoguat with a spoon, Big purses and big pockets help a lot. [Celanith]
I consider myself lucky! We have a drive in here and you still get the double features. I had never been to a drive in until I moved here and I have fallen in love. When we move I think it is the one thing I will miss the most. Drive Ins are few and far between these days. [blogyourself]
Sure I do,the snacks that are being sold there are way too expensive. In the theaters over here there are signs telling you not to enter food and drink unless it is the food and drinks that were sold to you in the theater. I always bring a little bag with food and water in it. [tomer_g]
I don't usually bring anything from the outside, although my friends all do. Once I did bring in candy that I got at a store just before going (it was a chocolate store so the candy was way better than anything you'd find at the movies). I do think that the movies would make a lot more money if they would make their food items normal prices and then people would stop sneaking so much in! I like when the movie theatres offer something unusual like coffee drinks or cookies (one small theatre I go to does this). It's nice to have some variety besides popcorn and soda all the time. [AnythngArt]
i always do both sneak snack and buy snack at the theater.for popcorn and drink i always buy from the theater lounge but for other snack i always sneak it from outsite like i use to go to the supermarket 1st before entering the theater.i even sometimes buy KFC or Mc.donald fried chicken:) [innechen]
Yes, I do sneak in snacks into the movie theaters just because the prices inside the theater for some snacks are almost double the price compared outside and the best part is that we are not allowed to bring in outside food to the theater (what an absurd law created by the theater owners in our place) forcing us to sneak in the snacks that we buy from the nearest shops and put it in the small hand bags and put the smaller things like candy inside our pockets. The worst part in our place is that they sometimes check the carry bags that get it inside and need to surrender the snacks to them. I feel this is a totally absurd situation. The only thing we ought to buy from theaters is the ice creams because for obvious reasons of not able to sneak it from outside. But overall, I try to avoid buying snacks inside the theater. I also find them charging more than that marked in the wrappings of the snacks (which is illegal in our country) and still get away with it. [milott]
Here it's allowed to bring snacks that are bought from other stores. movie houses in our country does not limit or prohibits snacks bought outside the movie house snack counter. Although there are movie houses here that does not allow beverages that are not bought from the movie house snack counter. I think all movie houses prohibits bringing of bottled or canned drinks inside, except probably plastic bottle containers. I haven't tried sneaking in any for the guards inpect the bags of movie goes here too, for security purposes. [shemercado]
I haven't in a while but I used to do it all the time. We would sneak hotdogs and candy in. You really just need a big purse and it's easy. One of the last times I went to the theater we all had drinks from somewhere else and one of the workers informed us we had to finish drinking it before we entered the theater. We said alright and then when they turned their back we rushed into the theater with our drinks. [entrepreneurgirl]
Hehe, this is a funny topic, and yes I certainly do sneak snacks in. I don't have a big purse, but I do manage to get in what I want. Too bad I love that artery cloging popcorn they make there or I'd be set with what I bring in. :) [IshidaMitsunari]
Yes I do, I make my own caramel corn and sneak it in in little ziplock bags and bottled sodas, water, or juice. Never been caught. Once one of my friends sneaked in two Starbucks frappacinnos in his baggy jeans pockets with a long jersey shirt pulled over them. Everybody kept asking us how we got them in to the theatre but by the time the usher came to investigate there was no evidence but the cups and they were down under the front row somewhere nowhere near us! [sharone74]
We do not sneak snacks into the theater for I don't like to take snack while watching movie. [lkbooi]
Movie theaters in our country doesn't prohibit people from bringing food inside, except when it's softdrinks in can, rice meals with sauce. My husband often buy hotdogs from a fastfood while I buy the popcorn, and the prices here are not high. [lafavorito]
yaa sneak snacks in the theatre where we went to get enertain for a period is incomplete without snacks in the theatre, it has got its own tase sitting with a popcorn , a coldrink or beer can and watching movie. [sumitjain]
i smiled. well, there are people who really try to hide food when they go to the theaters. okay, prices at the theaters are ridiculously high so some are tempted to hide something in. i could not remember if i had done something like you did. by the way, you had a very nice strategy in keeping the stuffs in. [windang]
Ya i like eating popcorns while watching a movie and drinking coke!! [adnanmd2]
I think the only thing I would pay for at the movies is the popcorn and cheese pretzels. But everything else like sodas and candies I have to say that I might just sneak those things in. Its bad enough that the price of just entering the movies is expensive, but then food there, those prices are outrageous. Then the times when I actually do go to the movies I am going with my husband and four children, maybe to watch a child flick. There is no way that I would be able to enjoy the movies if the total cost of snacks will add up to three or four times it costed me to see the movies. [198112]
Yes, I do. There's no reason for the cinemas to have their items priced so high, they already make enough money from the pictures. You can get the movies from a dvd shop for a dollar to watch in your own home. I take my backpack. I put my lunch in it and I watch the movie. There's no reason that the cinema shouldn't let us do this even though I know they don't. [morfessa1]
i uused to take snacks to the theatre but now i have grown .and many bpeople donot bring any thing to theatre.but i used to take it once. [yrteja]
Here in the UK, they've really only just started trying to stop you taking your own food and drink into the major chain cinemas. I never really bought anything from the concession stands anyway because of the prices, but I always get through about a litre of water during a film so I still smuggle that in! It's ridiculous but there is no way I'm going to pay Ģ2.50 for 50cl of water (and I've have to buy 2 anyway) when I've just paid nearly Ģ7 for the cinema ticket. Like a previous poster, there is an independent cinema near me which is fantastic. You can take your own, but I tend to get a herbal tea and a slice of carrot cake from their lovely little cafe. I heartily approve of that! The major chain cinemas make way too much money already, without fleecing us out of our hard-earned cash for overpriced fizzy drinks and stale popcorn! [emsr2d2]
yes we definetely sneak snack from the theater .we allways bye some pop corns and cooldrinks some times egg puff. but we bring water compulsary i like popcorns. [babyguda]
well, i definitely never buy any snack from the movie theatre because the price is simply ridiculous... i always buy something like chips and bring my own drink every time i go to the cinema... i never have to sneak it in because it is allowed here as long as we don't bring hot food to the cinema... and i'm not a movie maniac and i don't go to the movie that often anyway... :-) [lingli_78]
Ticket prices are so high that I don't go to the cinema that mnuch and only to see the real blockbuster type movies that benefit from being view on the big creeen which huge sound. I agree that snack prices are too high at the cinema (the think they have a captive audience so they charge more). I usually take bottled water with me and eat before i arrive so that I am not hungry. The carrots Idea is a good on. health snacks is the best as I'm a sucker for sugary snacks and could do with losing a few pounds. [Gruzzle]
i never sneak the snacks into the theather but i do agree with you the prices for those things are too unreasonable. the best way is not to buy those stuff there.i think sometimes i'll sneak those in.lol [money_maker01]
nopes i havent tried sneaking stuff in theatre yet.hahah....u ppl r crazy i read response they take soda's at times....hahhhah.....snack food is really expensive more than double..... [Xtauseef]
I will try and sneak candy and water into the theatre since the refreshments are so expensive in the theatre. It is just ridiculous but sneaking food into the theatre is not that hard here since it is mostly kids that work there and they do not care as much if people sneak food in there. I think it is easier for women to get away with it since they can put things in their purse if they wanted to do that. [kgwat70]
I will sneak in candy, but I love the popcorn at the movies, so I will buy that there. I just bring my big purse and buy the movie theater size candy to put in there. Sometimes, I may put a bottle water, as well. [Razzles]
The big idea Sneaking Snacks into the theatre hasn't struck to me yet. Its true that snacks served in theatres are costly but we just go their for some hours and in todays busy life we hardly have time to pack our own lunches for that so little time..i don't think its very smart enough. I go to movies tension free and relaxed without worrying to carry large food packets. You are hungry then buy and eat...what is the problem. [jackslaiter]
Yes a lot of times ,we usually do this by filling our cargos pockets with whatever snacks we can put in... and enjoy the risk.. [joypjose]
some of the theaters here allow food inside and some dont. so i dont have any problems sneaking snacks inside theaters. [jep_toyo]
Oh yeah... The last I heard movies are over $15 here, but it's been so long since I've bothered going, unless it was matinee. I figure they're making enough off me with the price of just a ticket and maybe a soda, that I should be able to bring in whatever munchies I want. Usually I'll got to Target or Walmart and buy the same sized candy bar or goodie bag for a cheap price. I've tried the popcorn a few times; it's pretty easy to do if you don't mind taking it in cool and stuffing some of it in a ziplock bag to help mask the scent, and don't feel bad, I did the purse thing too once *laugh* [nuttmeg]
our theather houses allow people to bring in food and drinks wherever you bought it. so i guess it is our choice if we buy from inside. [chiyosan]
I rather spend like $5 at the dollar store before I would spend $5 for one box of candy. :) [fxysxysrkly]
yes i am always sneak snack in movie theater. me and my husband always buy hot dog or popcorn before coming in and coke for drink and sometimes my husband buy pizza with the large size. [binong]
i sneak in with my tiffin in my college bag. usually i go for movies after my college [ashwinsinha2003]
i like to sneak that snacks with a coca cola. [Shujakhan]
me too anda i really agree with you... [wanbromida]
I PAY BECAUSE YOU NEED IT IN BETWEEN OF A MOVIE [delhirockz]
Well,I don't but my sis does. She even brought in drinks and popcorn chicken from KFC into the cinema. She held the stuff and threw her jacket over it. Didn't get busted then. =) Now I'm working as a temp at a concession stand in a cinema. And I'm so sick of the stuff, seeing it everyday,I bet I'll never eat that stuff again. O_o [gamers2000]
Yes, I did it, to save money and usually they don't sell food and drinks that I like. Many people do that, and it's look they don't have problem with it. I'm sure if they don't allow we bring outside drinks and food people will find another theater. [bison007]
Oh yeah, guilty as charged! I started sneaking snacks into theaters years ago when my children were smaller. I would take granola bars, peanuts and the like into the theater in my purse. I even took canned sodas in a few times! Now that my children are grown, my husband and I seldom (once in 9 years) go to movies, but if I did, you can bet that I would take my own snack! The prices that the theater has on their soda, candy, popcorn and other snacks is absolutely nightmarish! If I didn't sneak my snack in, I would likely eat a large meal right before the movie so that I wouldn't want a snack. I refuse to pay those prices! [crazynurse]
I don' goto theaters much prefer watching movies at homes but a few times when i have ever been to a movie theater i have never carried my food or snackbars i don't know why may be things i get in theaters here arn't much expensive. [humaaaa]
I have brought popcorn in too. buy a nice big satchel, pop it up - carry it along with you. It's healthier on the wallet and the body, lol. [copacetic]
Whenever i go to a movie or theater, i have to bring some kind of food with me (mabye something like a drink or sweets). but i never bring food that makes loud crunchy sounds, its too obvious that you're eating [ragekcm]
it's true. all snacks and beverages available for sale in theaters are atleast twice or thrice the price. so, i usually sneak in my snacks to atleast save more money while i enjoy watching movie with my favorite snack! [maryannemax]
I can't say that I do because part of the experience is paying the insane amount of money for snacks. ha ha Plus, I am not one to eat candy while watching a movie. I am more of popcorn and nachos and cheese type of snack girl. And trying to sneek in nachos and cheese would be a really mess job! ha ha [brokentia]
Ya We used to sneak snack into the theater..... [nsuresheee]
I agree with you that the prices of snacks at the movies are exorbitant. I hardly ever see a movie at the cinema these days but if I do it is when I am feeling extravagant and I will buy a drink and popcorn there. In the past however, I have snuck things into the movies in my purse or my pockets. I used to wear big jackets a long time ago and they had heaps of great pockets. I once took a full meal from Hungry Jacks (I think its called Burger King in the USA) in the pockets. I just had a little of the drink before I went in so it didn't spill. I usually have a medium size bag with me all the time anyway so its not a big deal to have a few packs of candy. I, like you though, have never snuck in popcorn. Tanika. [Tanika]
Over here in Sweden we donīt have to sneak it in. You are allowed to bring snacks from other places. Ofcourse - most people buy it in the theater for convinience but there are also people buying sodas and snacks elsewhere just because of the prizes! [Marie2473]
No I don't but I am seriously starting to think about doing it. I mean a bucket of popcorn costs way to much when you could buy tens of packets of corn to make at home with the same money. They tell you the cinema ticket is discounted to get back at you with the prices of snacks. [cinturina]
Yes we do sneak our candy and sodas in. I use the diaper bag. We only pay $.99 on our base but the prices of sodas and candy get jacked way up. On popcorn we usually buy the biggest one and then share it. [sinerica]
That's so funny because I'm guilty of this for sure. By the time you spend $30.00 for your movie tickets you have to spend another $20.00 on a popcoen and drinks. It's the worst gauging of prices ever. How do they get away with charging such rediuclous prices? [AndreaM76]
they dont check that much in india. me and my friends have brought snacks to the movie alot of times. popcorn to say the least we have even brought pepsi. what we do is tht we get in the movie in a very large numbers so they just count how many of us are there and dont check if we have brought anything or not. we have done it a number of times [atanud]
Nope I don't sneak food in. I LOVE getting theater popcorn and the butter...yum! And with a large cherry coke! Really when we go to the movies it is generally a treat for the kids so we let them get what they want. They usually just want popcorn and a drink. [mom2chriskel]
Hey! beautiful discussion. There is "globalisation" at least in the high prices of eatables in theaters. We are becoming Universal citizens facing the same problem in all the countries of the world. One wishes that Associations of Theatre owners takes notice of this problem. They seem to think that monopoly will give maximum profits. With high prices turnover goes down. The canteen/store owner will not be able to meet his fixed costs. They should try to maximise their turnover by reducing their margins and earn their profits from a wider spectrum of customers. This way they can retain goodwill of the film-goers. How about parking fee for vehicles? Are they not high? [multisubj]
Long time ago, when I used to go to the movies very frequently, I used to sneak snacks in, even a bottle of soda, or fruits! I remember once I had only cucumbers and carrots in the fridge and was planning on seeing 2 movies (I bought the ticket and would sneak into the second one) so, I prepared them, cut them into little pieces and put them into a plastic bag. Then, I bought nachos with cheese, and also used the veggies I brought with me. The only thing is that I had to buy snacks when sneaking into the second movie, so it wouldn't be suspicious! [berlinlife]
ohhhh about theaters i am a film crazy man i see all the nea films ant the theaters and that not a single time i do it a lot of times again and again the most recent film i saw about 7 times noiw u might know wat a film creep i am thn at these theatres u have toi pay through ur nose to get some snacks from threaters that will justify mee in sneaking in snacks inside thaeaters...and one more thing i distribute sancks inside the theaters also thn ianohter motivation forr this is that i am a terrific eater .. [athul555]
While I don't agree with the high prices of the food, I don't sneek snacks into the theater. Once, a very long time ago, we brought food into the theater by accident and we were nearly thrown out. I don't want to risk losing the money I paid to get in. [desertdarlene]
I buy most of the stuff from cinema, but sometimes I take chocolate or chewing gum there. Haven't been to cinema for ages now. Anyone recommends something new and good to watch? [marxgames]
Yeah, they make the prices ridiculously high and then increment them by a quarter, so that they can say "For only a quarter more you can spend more money and have a ridiculously large amount of soda that you'll ever drink!". Seriously, it's very annoying. Hehe. [eman123]
Guilty. We sneak water bottles in there. We will buy the popcorn, which is expensive enough--then get thirsty--pull out the water. It is just too much to buy three tickets, popcorn, and then get soaked for the drinks. [clarity]
I always sneak snacks in, no matter what kind. The prices in Denmark are absolutely outrageous! They don't have much to choose between either. In the old place, they didn't even bother checking you. They knew people did it. Many times I've walked in, with bags stuffed with snacks, noone cared or did anything. Then they built this new place, where they look in bags you bring, but just wrap your jacket around the bag, and they don't bother checking you. Been doing this for ages, and I'm not gonna stop unless the prices are lowered.. Alot. [Alphadash]
I have taken my own in with me before. It is crazy how much they charge you at the movie for soda, popcorn, etc... I usually take a big purse and put a bottle drink for me and hubby and maybe some candy or something in there. But we have never taken popcorn in either. If we want popcorn we will buy it there. [sweetgirl_k1]
It is the same here also. Everything is too costly in the theater. But there is little scope for taking anything inside because sometimes they check the bags in the in the guise of security checks. May be in future we will see everything is offered in a theater as a package. [babray06]
I do it all the time I go to the dollar store and put what I buy in my big purse.....The prices are crazy at the theather over her in md, va, and dc..a bottle of water 3.00 popcorn small 4.50, hot dog and soda combo 9.00...and then when you get the popcorn it is never fresh.... [smiley20903]
i do sneak into the theatre with my snacks!!cause i feel eating wat i make is bettre than eating the crap they sell at the theatres and yeah i too use a bag to carry my goods into the theatre [mhv236690]
i sneak snaks when i watch a theater. i bought some in the department store because its more cheaper in there compare when you gonna bought it in the theater.. and you can also have many choices in the food at the department store than in the theater. [michaelco]
I have snuck in snacks my son and i will go to the matene movie and i take the treats from home into the movie its too exspensive otherwise just the tickets alone [Pekachu]
When we go to the theater, we do sneak in a few items as, buying the ones there will triple our cost. And you're so right about the prices being outragous. Seems like they are awful close to price galging. The theaters complain about not making any money, but I do not see how this can be so with the prices they now charge. I can remember when as a kid we could go to the mall and see a movie, eat snacks, and even play a video game or two and maybe spend $6.00 per person. Now you can't even get a ticket for that. [BDnLacy]
when it comes to snacks, some of the movie houses in our place allows any snacks in the teather. so i don't have to sneak my favorite snack. i usually have a burger and a fries and a cola with me. but for some theaters that are really strict, i don't sneak any snack at all. i just don't buy their foods. it's too expensive. [klystron635]
too funny.. what a great topic!.. GUILTY!! lol, i think everyone does!.. not for popcorn, but their candy prices are just outrageous and sooo limited!... but i dont buy a bigger purse.. small purse PUFFY JACKET!!lol [kittykatzz]
Yes, sometimes. It's too expensive to go to a movie anymore, and after paying $8-$10/person, I don't want to pay another $30 for snacks. Unless they come up with some more realistic prices, I'll continue to sneak snacks in. Unethical? So are their prices! [jeepstergirl]
I have not done this because we don't go out to the movies that often and when we do I forget to bring snacks. I've often thought of bringing my husband's camelbak that he uses for riding his bike. It holds a lot of fluid and you wear it on your back like a backpack. All you need to do is put a jacket over top of it and you'll have plenty of drink for your movie. [katprice]
Sometimes when we want to snack, we sneak stuff in. I never buy stuff from the concession stand. My favorite movie candy is Raisinets or Snowcaps. Bought at the dollar store of course. I'm such a cheapskate! [zeeterman]
I sneak in stuff all the time. The prices people have to pay is ridiculous, as if the film tickets weren't expensive enough! If I worked in a cinema i'd definitely turn a blind eye to people bring in their own snacks..:) [emisle]
sure,love to do that....... [dizzyanshul]
I haven't been to see a movie in the theater for almost two years now. However, I have snuck snacks in before. Like you said, the prices of them are so high it is crazy. My friends and I used to stop at one of the locally dollar stores and get candy before we would go to see a movie. Nowadays, the movie ticket costs enough money alone, without any snacks. [jfeets726]
no i generally watch the movie very seriously and so i dnt eat while i watch the movie. and also i make it a point that the person who sits next to met also follows the same cause i am a movie maker myself and so when i go to watch a movie i actually study it so i need concentration.i hate peopl ewho munches when they watch movies. [amitavroy]
well its too much of a work if you ask me.i mean its not very hard to go say 2-3 hours without having any snacks.i never had sneaked in wiht any snacks in any theatre.i do agree the prices there are ridiculously high and most of the times i dont buy anything apart from popcorn or chips.and anyways theatre ticket prices are also much costly these days and it had been ages that i have been to a movie.i find renting a dvd or cd much more viable and you can also have your favourite snack without any worries. [dip_cool]
Yes...when we go to the movies...which is not very often. We actually go to a dollar store to get snacks. We will buy popcorn sometimes. The prices are ridiculous...They should really look at lowering thier prices...and perhaps they would make more in the long run. [icequeen]
Oh the prices at the concession stand in the movie theather are OUTRAGEOUS....you need to take out a second morgage on your home for a tub of popcorn and a soda ..LOL... I don't drink snacks in though...I sort of plan the popcorn and soda fee into the whole movie night expenses...I expect to dish out a certain amount each time...I can't watch the movie without popcorn lol.. But I will say that I remember as a child my mom bringing snacks in for us kids...She'd make popcorn and bring it even...but usually candy treats or fruit juices There were 5 of us kids so tickets alone must have been expensive for a single mom!! [Shar11]
I dont go to the theater anymore but when I was still with my ex we used to sneak booze into the movies in my huge purse LOL I remember sitting in the back with him, watching Cool World and getting drunk...it was fun! BUT I dont recommend it!! [Ravenladyj]
nothing can compare to movie popcorn! however, yes i do sneak snacks in occassionally..i very rarely buy candy at the theater. and I have snuck cans of soda in...3.25 for a SMALL soda is outrageous! [jsgrand0]
I used to work for a dollar store that was in the same plaza as the local theater. Actually it is right next door. Every Friday and Saturday the teenagers and even there parents would come in and almost wipe us out of our candy and juice drinks just for the movies. Even the employees for the theater would come in and buy drinks and snacks for themselves. I thought that was funny. I agree with you it is way too expensive to buy them at the theater. The only thing we might buy is drinks and maybe popcorn but that is about it. [magikrose]
I'm guilty! It is fairly easy to put a box of candy in your purse or coat pocket in the winter. You can buy the SAME box of candy at Walmart for $1.00 that they charge $3.00 for. If you are caught in the theater, you have the same kind of candy so they really can't prove anything at that point. I think the prices charged at movie theaters and sporting events is very much uncalled for. Families can't afford to go to many outings if a ticket purchase is required and then snacks and soft drinks cost an arm and leg. [kareng]
ya i do sneak snacks into the theater...but they are a bit costlier than te acutall price!! [ahsan15]
I always take in water and my own food, often it will be hoem made dried fruit or salami, I just don't want the food they offer in the cinema and the also serve coffee and not tea. I don't drink coffee, I don't like sugary pop, and I have no idea why they won't serve tea, so yes, I always take my own snacks in with me. The seat prices are so high anyway that they arent losing out I don't think. [nancygibson]
yeah I sneak soda and snacks in!! I would never pay $3 for candy, or $5 for nachos or something!!! [Jemmifire]
well i am curious too about that.... [sahergul]
since i go very rarely to a theatre i don't mind in spending the money for the snacks sold there. [mgr1987]
I don't, my kids do it all the time. [sharon613]
I take my own snacks...lol...and I take my own drinks as well...so I know how you feel...but I have been caught doing it a few times...because some theaters here check your purse before you go in...so we have to be careful about that... [amy69cne]
I have to say that I am guilty of this. The price of going to the movies alone is outragous and to have to buy snacks on top will break the bank for sure. The only thing, other than admission, I buy is the popcorn. [jmcafam]
Yes, I have snuck candy in with me when I go to the movies. The prices they charge at the theater is outrageous. I have never snuck drinks in though, simply because it is harder to do so. They would probably get warm before we had a chance to drink them, otherwise I would. Popcorn though is another matter. If we want popcorn, we are forced to buy it at the concession. [pebbles724]
Two of the ugliest words known to the English language. FANNY PACK. [Robertt81]
Yes.have you seen the prices lately unblieveable.Like the popcorn went up 50 cents and the sodas went up also more like everything here.i cant afford that when bad enough the tickets are pretty expensive. [islandmama671]
Nope. I've never snuck snalcks into a theater. Then again I've never really thought about it, but it would be a good money saver! :-D [Duvessa]
I used to pay high prices for snacks at the movie theater, but when I realized the the total cost of the snacks was more than my movie ticket, I said forget this, the next time I go to the movies I am bringing my own stuff. Now, before I go to any movie theater, I get one of my big purses to take with me. I pop my own Pop Secret popcorn for my family and I to share, throw in about two packs of M&M's and some candy from the corner store! I have vowed to myself not to go broke and starve during a good movie! [1jamickakelly]
We usually sneak food in. It's so expensive to go that I couldn't afford to take my kids if I had to buy snacks too. [mcmomss]
Hey thats what I'm talking about sneaking in snacks to the movies. Your not wrong its not like your required to buy the snacks that they provide you with, are they now. Heres the thing the movies cost $8.50 to get in $4.50 popcorn #3.50 a drink $3.75 a box of candy and no to mention that they have changed they got chicken fingers, fries its like your at a fast food joint. Me personal I only pay for my movie I bring my own snacks. By the way I grew up very poor single mother us going to the movies was exciting for us because we never went shoot we didnt even have cable. Well what I'm saying I've been doing it since I was 5 years old and I;ve grown up now and still doing it, look I like to enjoy life but I dont want to have to go broke doing that. [SisterLove]
Well I feel better knowing now that I'm not the only one who sneaks snacks in to the theatres when we go. Which isn't all to often. But for me personally I feel you can go to the dollar store or your local grocery store & buy the exact same candy for a buck. I mean they charge you $3.00 - $4.00 for a chocolate bar & it's sad that you can buy that same exact chocolate bar somewhere much cheaper. They sure do enjoy ripping people off that is for sure!I know that I always end up bringing in some bottled water or a can of pop for me & my other half to share. But when it comes to snacks we both tend to like chocolate. So we'll go pick up a few of our favorite chocolate bars & then bring them in with us. We've also brought in some nibs or a small bag of chips. But we've never brought in with us microwavable popcorn! I honestly don't feel bad about bringing my own things with us to the movie. I just know that if we buy stuff at the concession then it costs twice what the movie tickets cost. Though my other half & me get free movie tickets from his work so we're not worried about that. But we've had that happen to us before where we would buy our own tickets & then if you go to the concession stand your spending half as much as the ticket, even more at times.. Also, I'm a little picky when it comes to those concession stands from what I've observed.. Because I've never seen one of those people within those concession stands ever wash there hands.. It really makes me paranoid about even wanting to purchase anything from there. haha. [babyhar]
We are allowed to take snacks bought from another place into the movies here in Australia. We never used to be able to but they changed it. It makes it so much easier on the pocket. I make up lolly bags for the kids so they have a few different things to eat. [charlie0114]
If it's the dollar theatre not the expensive theatre,we usually eat before we get there or buy something there if I have enough money [coco526]
I dont usually pay for snacks at theaters but recently I had been to a movie nI felt very hungry during the interval so I bought some snacks and cold drink...Ironically I spent as much I had spent in the movie ticket..But sometimes its good even if we have to pay...I never tried sneaking in my own food [Silver98]
I don't sneak it. I never thought about it really. I remember when I was a kid, in my town it was forbidden to bring popcorn in (although it was sold in the lobby!?) so I was sneaking LEGALLY BOUGHT snacks. [imbrod]
sometimes.but mostly we buy popcorn in the theater.but sometimes this is fun right to do all mischeivous things.! [umavarma1]
Yes same here, I find the prices too high i mean 10$ for popcorn! I bring in bags of chips or candy. I also sneak in soda drinks. Im not willing to pay so much for that but sometimes i do because well i get refills hehe. I only sneak in things that come in packages because it's easier to fit in my coat :P [JellyBeans]
Oh yeah, every chance I get! We used to go to this one theater next to a Walmart. We would go to the soda vending machines outside Walmart and get sodas for .25 each, and then bring snacks from home and put them in my super big purse. That's the way to do it! The theater snack prices are totally insane, ya'll! [Geminigirl]
Lets just begin with saying movie theater prices are crazy!! You're spending almost twice the price for a ticket to enjoy a couple of snacks. With that said I have been guilty of sneaking stuff into the movies before. I would say I have a 50% rate of buying inside the theater, and bringing stuff into the theater. It also depends on who I'm with. Two of my friends are very into bringing in stuff from the outside. We've actually brought in hot dogs, candy, and fruit. Fun times! :) [Tarrish]
Just did last week! Really who doesn't. My Grandmother who is like a saint who never does anything that is against the rules even sneaks snacks into the movies. The prices are outragous. Really I think they would have better luck lowing the prices and making more sales. However I do buy the large popcorn when I'm with a group at $6.00 and I always get that one free refill and all of it gets eatten. [missybal]
Sometimes I sneak snacks in when I don't want to be $8 for a hotdog or $4 for a bottle of water. I usually pay for a slurpie alone. [bonnibp]
Yes yes I have taken food into the theatre. I can't believe how much they charge for a small box of candy. I always take a large purse and fill it with goodies. My daughter likes fiddle faddle so I put it in a ziploc bag and stuff it in my purse. I like hershey kisses so I always have them. We do however, buy popcorn and that is expensive as well. It is a shame that movies cost so much any more. The ticket for the last movie was $7.50 and that was only for one person. There is a web site that lets you know when there is a free movie preview in your state. I have used it to get a free movie. I also do rebates that offer free movie tickets. When I get the movie ticket free buying sodas and popcorn doesn't take a big bite out of my purse. However, I still take other candy as well. [sizzle3000]
Yes I have. Been known to slide sunflower seeds into my Jacket pocket and take them. As A teenager I even brought in beer. I was a bad boy I know. You are right though everything is what to high price. [dragonryder]
i do all you have to do is put it in your coat or pants and your in i have even gotten drinks in its easy and saves money [wilsonsir12]
Most of the time I will buy popcorn at the theater, even though it's way overpriced. But I do sneak in candy and bottled water. [happy29]
I always thought about sneaking in snacks and junks when I go to the theater but I never do it. lolz... I always end up buying it there. I know how expensive it is and I don't understand why they're so much. Well, I usually just get popcorn and ice cream. I guess it does taste better when you get them from there too. Maybe I should think about saving more money and sneak some once in awhile. lolz... I can't make it a habit and get caught. I fear of getting caught for something that is not worth getting in trouble for. [Lovely_Lady]
But of course! It helps to have a wheelchair backpack where you can load up. I can barely afford the price of admission let alone those overpriced candies and snack foods! [Bee1955]
Going to the movies is expensive these days. Of course, I would sneak food into the theaters. Otherwise I would be spending $20 just for the ticket and popcorn and drinks [bunny7476]
Heck yeah! Wouldn't be the movies if I didn't go to the dollar store and get all the snacks I want and go in. I am not the elite going to the theatre. I always go to the $2 shows because $9 is out of the question. [saroya]
Oh yeah, the prices at the movies are nuts. I always bring an extra jacket with, and a can of pop and my own snacks and hide it in the jacket.. the jacket that I am carrying into the theatre and no one ever questions it :) [mbs730]
Yes. I sneak snacks. They put a ridiculous markup on the snacks at the counter. Popcorn I buy, snacks I sneak. [SingingPsycho]
Lol. Something about the sentence, "popcorn I buy, snacks I sneak" made me laugh. Sounds like a really good motto. [blogyourself]
i dont bring snacks all the time when the movie is boring i get myself some popcorn or some cool drinks like pepsi and coca cola. [vivekajith]
