Do You Still Have A Vcr Do You Still Use It

Our VCR is still in use. But actually very rarely. We mainly use it to tape an occasional TV show if we are going to be out. But with TV episodes playing on web sites now, we are cutting down on even that now. Occasionally we will bring home a video from our church library too. Are you still using your VCR? Do you even still have one? What do you mainly use it for?

We actually have a couple of them and yes we still use them. Most of the time though the only things we play on them are kids videos that we have and never bothered to transfer to DVD. I don't actually remember the last time I watched a movie for myself using the VCR. I did buy a bunch of videos last year when the store was going out of business. They had videos for 1.00 and I couldn't pass them up. I have since transferred many of them to DVD but for the price I was happy to get them. Maybe I will go and watch one now. happy [mscott]
We just need to get a DVD recorder and then that will be a good project for me too. [rocketj1]

no i do not like it.i do not use it now. [wangkai]
It's all over sadlol Thanks:) [rocketj1]

We do still have a VCR, and we still use it. I have many movies that are rare and only on VHS- and so that's when the VCR comes in handy. In fact, I have a rare claymation Christmas special that's on a tape, and I know for a fact that it won't be on DVD (it was from the 80s), and so, if we ever got rid of the VCR, i'd have no way in watching it. [IrishRose23]
The Christmas special would have to be Will Vinton's Christmas Claymation Special. You can try finding it on YouTube. [IrishRose23]

I do still use my VCR. There are only a couple of TV programs I watch and I prefer to tape them and watch them without the commercials. It is amazing how often the phone will ring, someone will come to the door or the dog will want to go outside just at an important moment in the story so, by taping, I don't miss anything. Lucky you!happy [rocketj1]

Yes! lol We still have our VCR and we still use it. We have quite a lot of VHS tapes around and it's still fun to watch old movies on the VCR although some of them already have poor quality and there are a quite a few distortions (much like static) when I watch them. But it's still ok. I just don't like it that much anymore when you have to wait for a few minutes to rewind the tape. happy [zeroflashx2]

I still have a VCR in my store. Not in use any longer as I have a DVD player and most of the times watch movies on my computer. [pkraj111]
Thanks:) By the way, congrats on quitting smoking!:) [rocketj1]

We do have a VCR and tapes however we rarely play it anymore. Seems everything has gone to CD. [Grandmaof2]
Thanks. Makes you wonder how long they will still sell VHS tapes, doesn't it?confused [rocketj1]

i have vcr & cd palyer made together. it's sitting up here in the closet, never use it. my children gave it to me a few christmases ago. i'm just into allthat new stuff. [ANTIQUELADY]
thanks, i'm o.k. tired of fooling w/some of the crap on here bit hopefully it will go away. i'm trying to ignore it. hope you & yours are wel, heidi. jo [ANTIQUELADY]

i have a televideo which is a tv with a video built in. I will never get rid of it because we have old home movies that are on video and also some films so without my video player i would be able to watch them. i dont have the equipment to transfer videos to DVD so i will keep my video player because it is just so handy [kate_310]
You have reminded me that I have not watched any home videos in a Looooooong time! I really think that would be a great idea! Thanks [rocketj1]

I was fortunate enough to see betamax when I was a kid because soon after, it was replaced by VCR. Now, we have DVD player to do the job. In our storage room we have a VCR but we don't use it anymore since there are no more tapes available for it. Most of the movies that we want our now in CD format or can be downloaded from the net. However, in our school, educational tapes are given in VCR format so we still use it in our school. [anneshirley]
Did you know that Betamax was actually a higher quality of tape than a VHS was but for some reason, the industry went with VHS? Probably a political type thing. Thanks:) [rocketj1]

We still have a VCR. We mostly use it to watch movies we'd either taped off of HBO years ago or the movies we'd owned and didn't feel like buying the DVDs for since we already had them. The VCR is still in great condition, too! [stylioJ]
Our VCR is in pretty good shape yet too, except that it makes this strange noise while recording that always sounds like people talking in another room. Creeps me out if my husband has it on the timer and I can hear it running upstairs! Thanks:) [rocketj1]

Yes we still have a VCR. We put it in our sons room long ago as we don't use it at all. He still has a few tapes and the odd tape from the church library but that the only time it is ever used. [VE3IYB]
Already I think that the phrase "like a broken record" may mean nothing to them. Maybe they would think first of an athletic "record". [rocketj1]

i still have a VCR, its main purpose is to act like a poor mans DVR lol. [pcporter762]
Amen! Very funnylol [rocketj1]

We still have a VCR and use it to tape sports events or even TV shows. Yes you can watch them on the web, but our computer monitor is much smaller and it's less enjoyable to sit in front of the computer than lounging on the couch. We also still have some videos in our personal collection and our library also offers videos we can borrow. Mostly kids stuff, which is good. But we are in the market for a new DVD player after ours seems to be broken. We can hear the audio but nothing but black appears on the screen. It's cheaper to buy a new one than to pay somebody to repair it. The problem for us is to find a region free one that's cheap as we have European DVDs we like to watch on occasion. [jonesy123]
I've learned something new here. I have not heard of "region free" Dvd players. Thanks:) [rocketj1]

I do still have a vcr. I very rarely use it but I do have a small collection of childrens movies. My grandchildren often watch them when they come over. [sid556]
My kids have just gotten past the age where they watch many of their children's tapes. I actually kinda miss Barney!lol Thanks:) [rocketj1]

I still have one but I don't use it. I have a DVD recorder so I do all the recording on that now. I have the VCR for things that we still have on tape that I want to watch. [doubleloveyou]
My husband has a lot of old Detroit Tiger games on VHS. He probably uses it more than I do. Thanks:) [rocketj1]

We have one at home, already for many years but frankly speaking I never learnt to program it. Direct recording yes, or using it to see a rented film. But setting it to record a program I wanted to see, never. [overwings]
Oh, don't I know it! Some VCRs would be hooked directly to the Cable while others went through the TV. Now which one needs to be turned off? Does the TV have to be on? I could never remember that when recording. We had so many different models throughout the years too. Each one had a different remote and onscreen menu. What a pain! [rocketj1]

We have a dvd/VCR combo in our bedroom. I never use it though. I just use the DVD part of it. I dont even think I own VHSes anymore!! lol [samijo719]
I wonder when they will stop making tapes altogether. Thankshappy [rocketj1]

I still have a VCR and a tv with a built in VCR/DVD (LOL the tv was bought when the transition from VHS to DVD was happening) I rarely use my VCR anymore, but I have a lot of old things on vhs that I would love to see sometimes so I keep my vcr around [cndn420]
Yes, unless we transfer VHS to DVDs, I guess that would be our only choice. Thanks:) [rocketj1]

Hello rocketj1 Well I will tell you a funny story, well it's not that funny but it was funny to me at the time. I got rid of all our videos to a charity/thrift shop and made a note of the one's I wanted to get on DVD but just a few. I then went to visit my friend and her kids during the summer holidays and when I got home my son said to me, look what she gave me. It was a pile of power ranger and spidermen videos they no longer wanted!! Aggghhhhhhhh. I rang her later and told her off for off-loading her unwanted items onto my son hahahaha. Now I have to keep the machine a bit longer now! [Humbug25]

yes, we have a vcr, but only in the kitchen. in the living room where we have the big flatscreen and entertainment center and all that, we just have the dvd player. we took the vcr out of there because we just didn't use it enough. but in the kitchen we have a smaller color tv with a built-in vcr. my 3-year old uses it sometimes to watch videos we rent him from the library. i think my hubby has one down in the basement hooked up to the old tv, as well, but that is really never used. :) [fatmansmommy]
It seems there is still a lot available for kids on video. Our library carries quite a few too. Thanks:) [rocketj1]

We still have a VCR. It is in my sons room and they use it on rare occasions to watch the few movies that we still have not replaced on DVD. They can only watch those movies because we know that they don't have any foul language in them. Everything else goes through the DVD because it has TV Guardian. Be Blessed! [change1life]
Yes. I believe that we have talked about TV guardian before. It's a great thing! Thanks:) [rocketj1]

I no longer have a Video Cassette Recorder, rocketj1. I had several until a few months ago, but now I am VCR-Free. [Transdisc]
I'm so happy that you were able to "kick the habit"! The toll is was taking on your health and on the lives of your loved ones was really tragic!lollol Thanks:) [rocketj1]

No we no longer have a vcr, I do not think that we have had one for quite a few years now. I liked the vcr better than dvd players, it does not take much to break a dvd, the slightest scratch and they do not play anymore! [gemini_rose]
We've only had troubles with very few DVDs in that way. Thanks:) [rocketj1]

We still have a VCR and the tapes that go with it. It still plays tapes good. We have watched them but we mostly watch the DVD's. [sweetbabyjane]
It seems that a lot of people here have old machines that just keep on runnin' [rocketj1]

Well at my house we have a VCR and DVD player put together but we don't even touch the VHS player much at all. I can't remember the last time we actually watched a tape now that everything comes in DVD and Bluray. Still it is nice to have the VHS player just incase anyone wants to watch an old tape. [rifat1337]
Thanks:) Love the Avatar! [rocketj1]

I do have a VCR, mainly use it to tape shows or movies I wanted to see but didn't have the time to. Or to look at my old tapes I still don't have DVDs of. [tahiel]
Same here. Thanks:) [rocketj1]
