Hi Mylotters.I hope you all watch a lot of movies looking at the strength of movies interest strength. So do you watch only your language movies or sometimes you watch foreign language movies.I sometimes watch foreign language movies as well. And I must tell you that I was surprised to learn that I am missing so many wonderful movies by not watching any other foreign language movies. So far the movies that I have watched and was impressed by are "The city of God","Amores perros","The Return","The color of paradise" and "Amilie".For those who haven't experimented yet, you must..

Hi there Shames, Sometimes I will admit I find myself late at night watching some unknown film with subtitles and although I have watched some pretty appauling ones where the voices they have chose for the voice overs really do not sound like that character would ever talk like that I am sure you know the ones I mean, but there have been a few good ones. My computer faces away from the tv and I had to draw the line when I would turn the channel over to one of these films yet be on the computer with my back to it so in the end I didn't have a clue what was going on lol [crbanks1974]
Hi crbanks.I got it what you meant to say.So yo specially do not bring DVD of foreign language movies and watch them.I must advice you that you are missing a lot of experience and fun.Anyways thanks for your response.. [Shames]
I definitely agree that many foreign language movies are miles more interesting than a lot of the main stream stuff which gets all the publicity. It's as if these foreign movies are free of constraints and can take stories in a direction which many movies dare not go. Two of my favourite foreign movies, both of which happen to be Italian, are "La Vita è bella" and also "Malèna" two very beautifully made movies which although are in Italian you can watch without the need for subtitles as what happens on the screen tells a clear story. [thedailyclick]
Hi dailyclick.Yes you are right. And what makes the scene even more worse is the fact that the women was so beautiful. These types of scenes you get to see only in foreign language movies.. [Shames]
I do watch foreign movies. They are a lot more thought provoking and interesting. I really enjoy watching Pedro Almodovar movies. Also seen 'City of God', 'Amilie' and 'Amores Perros'. [realan]
Hi realan.SO you do agree that some foreign language movies are much better than the super hit main stream movies. Thanks to Oscars and other publicity companies that bring such movie's attention to the global level.Anyways thanks for your response.I hope you liked those movies very much that you saw.. [Shames]
Hi shames, Of course I watch the movie with foreign languages. I come from Indonesia. I watch a lot of movie in foreign languages. I watch spiderman, harry potter, pirates from carribean. All that movie have foreign languages for me, all in English .. hehe.. My favorite movie is "the alamo". That is classical movie, war between santa anna with US army in mexico in the alamo port [masteronline]
yeah, but is foreign languages for me. "The Alamo" is famous classic movie. I don't know where we can download this movie. May be you can search from google. [masteronline]
Absolutely. I refuse to watch dubbed versions because the voiceovers are always a distraction. Some of the finest films ever made were done outside of the States. Bergman, Fellini, Renoir (son of Pierre-Auguste Renoir), Truffaut, Kurosawa - all masters. [cls1970]
Hi cls.I too agree wit you but if we have no choice then there is nothing we can do about it then I do watch their dubbed version. But guess what sometimes it is fun watching them that way.Anyways thanks for sharing the names of those movies though I haven't seen even one of them.. [Shames]
I've seen "Children of Heaven" (1997), very simple story and yet so moving and touchy. "Malena" - Italian, Zatôichi - Japanese and quite a number of others which titles eludes me at the moment. Finding a great one is more of a luck if not accidental. [ferdzNK]
Hi ferdznk. You are right. It is only a matter of luck that you come to know about these movies and watvh them.I would also recommend another japanese movie called "The Sassy girl".It is also a very nice movie. And sorry but I haven't heard out of the movie "Children of Heaven".I will check it out on the net though.Anyways thanks for your response.. [Shames]
I lived in a country with several ethnic races, so it is normal for us to watch movies of different languages. In our TV channels we have movies in Chinese, Indian, Malay, Japanese, Korean, Taiwanese, Arabic, Portuguese and English. All have sub-titles except the English movies. All foreign films are very good. I particularly like Arabic, Indian, Korean, Japanese and Brazilian soap dramas. In a way we are lucky becuse we have a very diversified cultural background. Most programmes are in English though (mainly American shows). I live in Malaysia, a former British colony. I wonder if any of the other Mylotters too have many foreign films in their TV channels or is Malaysia the only country that does that. It would be interesting to know. All Malaysians also know at least 3 lanuages. [kl_blueknight]
Hi bluenight.WOW!You are really lucky that you people in touch with so many languages and cultures.Well here in India apart from Indian and english movies we also get to see pakistani and Iranian movies as well..However I feel pakistani movies are pretty dull but some Iranian movies are really very good.. [Shames]
I watch a TON of Asian films. I especially love Japanese horror movies...in my opinion, they are much scarier than horror films from the United States. I also love Chinese films of all sorts, from martial arts to fun dramas. I am also getting into Korean films, ever since I watched Old Boy. Another film by the same guy who did Old Buy is called Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, or something like that. It's an amazing film, though pretty gory. I just adore all kinds of Asian films! [Pinkie21]
Hi pinkie.Even I like japanese horror movies.I saw the movie one missed call and it was really amazing. So you like asian movies..Then what is your opinion on Indian movies. After all India produces largest number of movies in the world.Anyways thanks for your response.. [Shames]
I would like to be able to but having dyslexia it is impossible to keep up with the subtitles let alone the story aswell. [pinklemonade]
Hehe it's nice that he mentioned me : ) he is such a wonderful person to know! Yes that sounds like a good idea, I might just do that! [pinklemonade]
I like watching foreign language films. I just find it very interesting to listen to other peoples' language. I would usually watch Korean or Japanese films but of course with subtitles. I also like listening to Spanish speaking people, i find their language very beautiful. At home, i would switch on channels and find my self sometimes watching French and Chinese films. By watching films in foreign languages, it tells me a lot about other people's culture and it makes me wanna learn a new language. It could be fun. [sujuwonder]
Hi sujuwonder. It is nice to know that you have such an interest in other country's people, culture and languages. Then you might have seen a lot of good movies by now.So any movie you would like to recommend to me.Anyways thanks for your response.. [Shames]
the movie industry in america is clique oriented and basically ran like an oligarchy.the movies coming out now days are just plain garbage this why thet have to make remakes because there are no more original ideas out there and the public is getting sick and tried so they have opted for small budget independent features films and all people that follow the industry know that the market has increased four fold for independent films and as the ethnic demographics of the usa change so will the taste of the film that they prefer to watch [vikramtop1]
Hi vikramtop. You are very right it feels like Hollywood has run out of ideas. Now all the movies that are being released are either a sequel or adaptation from some good novel.I do not know how long it will go on.Anyways thanks for your response.. [Shames]
I like watching foreign language movies.but if the foreign language movies have not caption or subtitle. I can't understand the meaning. even though i can't understang it very clearly ,i still love watching foreign language movies. [watershui]
Hi watershui.I understand it is really difficult to understand these movies if there are no subtitles. But I guess subtitles for all the movies are available over internet. So I dont think the subtitles are that big problem.Anyways thanks for your response.. [Shames]
Hey Shames we speak Hindi so doesn't Hollywood seem like a "foreign language" movie to us...lollol... you agree we watch lots and lots together my friend, and yeah some other language too Telugu, that isn't foreign though, but yeah some nice french and spanish movies as well, of course with the dubbing and srt attachments.... we should watch some more of them don't you think... huh! whatsay man whatsay! . . . have a nice day dude!cool [voldrox]
For sure.Anytime..And I appologise to use that in public forum. But then you got the message. So no problems.Be ready for tomorrows match. [Shames]
ya..i do watch, them actually there is cahnnel called waorl movies on that those movies come...i love them..because they show us a diifferent kind of art an culture [neokaizenrockz]
Hi neokaizenrockz.Wow you have a seperate channel dedicated to foreign language movies. That is so cool.I wish we had one here..I hope that they soon start one.Anyways thanks for your response.. [Shames]
yes i do,there r great films in foreign language, here in prc,i watch english 1s,i do love them.i can learn from foreign films such as foreign culture.ve a nice day.happy [dafengluobote]
Hi dafengluobote.Well you are right. We get to learn a lot from other people's culture and tradition. So it is not only fun but also a kind of education.Anyways thanks for your response.. [Shames]
Well I've mostly stuck to movies in my language but just recently I watched the movie "Pan's Labrynth" and it was so good! I didn't even realize I was reading subtitles the whole way through. So it definately opened up my eyes to other movies even if they aren't in english. [phoenix1344]
Hi pheonix.I heard a lot about this movie "Pan's Labyrinth".I heard that it has wonderful graphics and all.And also it was nominated for oscars.I hope I watch it one day.Anyways thanks for your response.. [Shames]
i watch foreigh language movics,i found that different culture can intereting me,this let me hope to know more something from foreigh language movcies,at the same time i can hear the real foreign language, sometimes i can learn it from it,example english,i found this can improve my hearing, [bingchen]
Hi bingchen. You are right these movies are really interesting and amusing because they are totally from an alien culture to us.I hope you see more of such movies.Anyways thanks for your response.. [Shames]
Yes i do watch a lot of foreign language movies. Nowadays as we get world movies channel, it only got easier to watch quality other language movies. THe concept of movie making, the theme is diffrent...I ahve to read the subtitles to understand french, spanish, iranian and all but it is intersting to watch them. we also have an option of selecting the most popular movie to watch on world movies. On thing I do not like about the channel s that their collection is very less. I also hear about good films from friends who go to film festival and see them is possible. [malpoa]
Hi malpoa.Yes you are right. Most peculiar thing that makes these movies so different is their themes. And yes you get to know all the nice foreign movies in the film festival.I hope I will attend one at least.Anyways thanks for your response.. [Shames]
there are quite a few movies in foreign languages that is interesting and worth watching. recently a friend of mine suggested 'motorcycle diaries'. when he said it is about che guevera, i was not that keen. but he insisted that i watch it. i liked the story line. a wonderful story with no sensationalism involved. there are couple of other movies, all languages alien to me I liked the movies. my only guide was the english subtitles. [tulipstrader]
Hi tulipstrader.Che Guevera is indeed a very famous personality. And even I watched that movie. It was very different and I liked it very much.I hope you see more of such movies.Anyways thanks for your response.. [Shames]
Just yesterday I watched an Argentinean film, in Spanish and that was the best one I have watched in a long while! It had humor, no violence, a kind of love story and it left you with a nice feeling inside too! It was called The Jar, for those that are interested! [sylvia13]
Hi sylvia. Thanks for sharing the name of the movie. The review given by you says that it is a very nice movie not to be missed.Anyways thanks for your response.. [Shames]
In our theatre now there are many American movies puting on . Therefore we both watch our language movies and American movies. In our country people just learn English at the age of 3 or 4 in kindergarten now so we are not strange with English. And some of us are really fond of American movies. [grace118224]
i grace.Well English movies is not what I meant when I said foreign language movies. As English is a global language it is not foreign to any country. What I meant was do you watch local movies from other countries like spanish, italian or mexican.I hope now you understand what I meant.Anyways thanks for your response.. [Shames]
I have no idea when I've seen the last movie in my native language (Romania)! Most of the movies I watch have Romanian subtitles, but I also watch English movies with no subtitle at all. I watch movies in many languages (English, Japanese, French, Italian, Russian, sometimes Indian), most of them subtitled in Romanian, but some of them subtitled in English (most of the Japanese anime I watch are subtitled in English). [stvasile]
I have no idea what the name of the movie was... I didn't watch the entire movie... I sometimes watch fragments of Indian movies when there's nothing more interesting on TV (I'm not much of a Bollywood fan). There are a few TV channels that show Indian movies in the evening. [stvasile]
hello shames! well yes, i have tried watching foreign movies...and yes i like it! its nice to see how other countries make their movies...of course aside from movies that are Hollywood made, i also saw one movie from your country...and its called Khryss...i guess i have told you about this already...i come to like this one even if it is not really in english (there are parts that are not in english), i also saw some chinese movies...mostly movies of jet li (at least it has english subtitles) just that there are also some that don't have, but its okay for we enjoy all the action parts of the movies...as well as Ong -bak from Thailand, and of course some horror films like the Ring. and The Grudge (original version)...hehe see, i watched any kind of movies from different countries...even if sometimes i don't understand the dialogues, but still i enjoy it...and there are still other movies that we watched that is not in english but i find them nice and interesting movies...just that i forget the titles of the other films that we have watched before...happy have a nice day Shames! [ckyera]
yes shames...its from your old account...hehe well my likings for action movies is just an influenced of my husband to me! hehehe at first i don't really like it...but now i appreciate it already and really i find it nice and exciting to watch!happy its always my pleasure shames to respond in your discussions! have a nice day! happy [ckyera]
When I went to philippines, I always see foreign language movie. Because there are only english movies, so I have no choice. Last month I watch 3 movies, they are "Transformer", "Ice Age 3", "Harry Potter". Actually I only can watch action and cartoon movies, the others I can't understand clearly. I need to improve my english to watch movie. :) Happy mylot! [xichen7]
I see the responses of this discussions, not only me who think the foreign language is a film use another country's language. Now I exactly know what your mean, I am not only watch the hollywood films, I also watch other country's film, Like India, Franch, English, Korean and so on. Just like I watch English film named "007", Korean film "The Classic". And I think "The Classic" is the best loving film. It worth You to watch it. Happy mylot! [xichen7]
Yes, I love watching Japanese movies with English sub titles. I very much love the japanese movies and especially Naruto serial is my favourite and I simply love that one. You just cannot imagine a better comic than Naruto and I am truly insoired by that one. That is really a great series to watch. Have a great day and happy Mylotting. Chers:-) [vinslounge]
Hi vinslounge.yes you are right. Both the japanese movies and animes are quite interesting. And I definitely agree with you that naruto is one of the best animes I ever watched. But my favorite is One piece. You have to see it..Anyways thanks for your response. [Shames]
film must not be monopolized by one country or one language. it's as if film can only be done right by one country or by speaking one language. one should watch chinese, japanese, italian, french, indian, german and many other films from different countries. they may not be as glossy or big budgeted as those made in hollywood. even some iranian films are great to watch. [versio9]
Hi versio.Yes I do agree with you. Some iraninan films are really nice to watch.Though all of them are related to the wars in one way or the other.Anyways thanks for your response.. [Shames]
I enjoy watching Swedish action movies, as well as Japenese and Chinese dramas. [chipper3]
Hi chipper.I have never watched a sweedish movie in my entire life. How are they? Are they really good? Can you refer me at least one nice movie in sweedish that I can watch.Anyways thanks for your response.. [Shames]
Hardly ever - I guess the best foreign language movie i have seen in some time, was "Pan's labyrinth". Now that was a good movie, even though I had to read pretty much everything off the subtitles, it was worth the while. If im not mistaken, they even won some awards for the movie. But all in all - I the language of the movie is not english, i might end up not watching the movie - even if it is a good one. [Sleepingcap]
Hi sleeping. It was really nice to know that even you feel that language is not a barrier to watch a movie if it really is a good movie.Anyways thanks for your response.. [Shames]
Although, I can't really say that I have watched numerous foreign language films (i've only watched two), but those which I have, have been incredible. I suggest you watch Pans Labyrinth (Spanish) and Battle Royal (Japanese). These two would make my top 10 favourite movies :) [requital]
Hi requital.I have heard about the pan's labyrinth but did not know about the Battle Royal.Actually my real intention is starting this discussion was to get to know about nice foreign language movies. And I thank you for telling me one I did not know.Again thanks for your response.. [Shames]
I love watching foreign films. You're definitely missing out if you don't. I avoid the ones that are dubbed, though. I prefer subtitles. It gets distracting to hear words that don't match their mouths. [subearthancottage]
Hi subearthancottage.I agree with you.But I still watch them as I have got used to such voices. And sometimes I guess it is better because reading subtitles can really be annoying. But still I watch most of the foreign movies with subtitles only.. [Shames]
Oh about foreign movies, I love to enjoy foreign movies. I would think that was a great treat for me. Because I might be able to learn other cultures through movies. I usually watch Asian movies, doesn't matter whether it is Chinese, Japanese, or Korean. I also love to watch Spanish movies too. [clorissa123]
Hi clorissa.Well that is not fair. You said you watch Asian movies but you do not watch any Indian movie. If you are not aware India makes more movies in a year than hollywood as well. Some of them are even better than the oscar winning movies but they do not get that opportunity. But most of them are just above average.I strongly recommend you to experiment with Indian movies as well.Anyways thanks for your response and have a nice day ... [Shames]
I would like to know some different culture, so i often watch some foreign language movies. Although I can not travel to every place of movie I can enjoy the scene. [kevinll]
HI Kevinll. You are very right. It helps us to understand various cultures and way of life of people in different countries and regions.Anyways thanks for your response and have a nice day ... [Shames]
Hi Shames, We watched English movies and we have a collection of it at home. we also watched telemovies with subtitles and majority are dubbed in Filipino. Watching local and foreign movies is one of our bonding moments with kids at home especially duri ng weekends! [msfrancisco9369]
Hi msfrancisco.Well English movies can not be considered as foreign language movies. When I said foreign language movie I meant movie that belonged to some other country in their own language.Like the Filipino movies would be a foreign language movie to me and vice versa.ANyways thanks for your response and have a nice day .. [Shames]
I am a big fan of Iranian movies..also got attraction to French,Italian and old Japaneese movies..this added to my regular viewing of Enlgish movies...Yeah I've got a thing for foreign movies..by the way thank you for recommending "Amores perros","The Return" and "The color of paradise"...I'll watch them for sure... Amelie ,city of god...me too a big fan of these two movies...Amelie even made me a huge fan of Audrey tautou.. [shyamlal]
Hi shyamlal.Even I watch those movies made in far east.Specially those horror movies. They make such movies well.I knew that you definitely watch foreign movies. And I think they broadcast an Iranian channel here in India as well. And most of their movies are based on wars.Anyways thanks for your response and have a nice day.. [Shames]
