I was shocked to the highest level when I saw this news on tv. I really can't believe that this actor I admired in the Knight's Tale movie is already dead! he's still young! and to think that I am so excited to see him play the psychotic freak Joker in the Dark Knight sequel of Batman Returns. this really made me sad.
the news said New York police are currently investigating on the matter and they are saying that his death might have something to do with illegal drugs. his body was found in his house in Manhattan.

I was stunned. What is annoying me is that these news stations are jumping to conclusions with no evidence. They have confirmed he had over the counter sleeping pills near his bed, but he also went through several time zones in the last week, and it would not be uncommon for someone to have to take a sleeping pill for that. No one knows anything for sure, and people are speculating about how roles he took might have depressed him, how he could have been into drugs because he lived in the bohemian community... I even heard one guy they interviewed say he sat near him last year at a dinner, and he couldn't get over how dirty Heath's hair was. Say WHAT? The poor guy is dead and can't defend himself and they are talking about his hair? Thankfully his daughter is too young to know how nuts people are being. [AmbiePam]
right. even if celebrities are considered to be public properties, the media sometimes are just way too much going over their limitations. and its just unfair. yeah, his family will have a hard time dealing with whatever speculations will come out. [secretbear]
Yes, it's sad but nothing new. He was only on the news because he was a famous celebrity. Think about how many regular average people die every day and nobody even knows or cares about them. The media is just using his name to get attention. [Sungolian]
I said if a regular person that I don't know dies, it wouldn't matter to ME. I may be sad a little over it, I may sympathize a little, but it really wouldn't matter to me because I don't know that person, I can't do nothing about that person's death, I didn't have any effect on that person while he was alive, nor did he affect my life. i'm sure it wouldn't matter to a stranger if I die too. i'm sorry if you think its a shallow reasoning but for me, its just being practical and honest. I read a lot of deaths in the newspapers and truly, they are troubling, but in the long run, I would forget it because I have never met those people for all my life, we shared nothing, we never had memories together, we never left anything to each other, we didn't matter to each other. [secretbear]
Its very sad. Such a waste. He was only 28 years old. Now his daughter has no dad. It was a drug overdose. Another talent gone too soon. For nothing again. [ersmommy1]
really? jake is Heath's daughter's godfather? well, let's hope that he'll be there for the poor girl. she needs every comfort and guidance since her father is gone. [secretbear]
Goodnight, Heath Ledger :( He was a talented actor that was taking way too soon. [Jamdin]
goodnight and goodbye forever. T.T [secretbear]
That just saddens me to no end. I love him, his talent, his youth, his accent. I knew he was a party boy, but didn't know about any drug use. This is truely a great loss to hollywood and all of us screen watchers. I loved him in A Knight's Tale and Brokeback Mountain I could watch daily....this is just so sad. [ljegbers]
it really saddens me a lot too. I have a friend who shares our sorrow. she loved heath in Brokeback. I loved him since Knight's Tale. and I know I would have loved him more in Dark Knight as Joker. really a great loss. [secretbear]
I just read that in yahoo news... it saddens me that a person so talented would die very young... he could have done more for himself, his child, family, and the entertainment industry... Well now is a legend just like James Dean who died at the age of 24, Brandon Lee at the age of 28, and River Phoenix at the age of 23... I am sure Dark Knight will be a blockbuster hit... considering the fact that that movie is his last one... [aseretdd]
yeah, its really sad when a young talent is wasted by death. we also have some local young actors who died early. i hope that Dark Knight will be a hit and will be remembered by how Heath Ledger played Joker differently. [secretbear]
Yeah I saw that, that sucks that it seems all celebs are doing drugs and either getting into trouble with drugs or unfortunately dying from them. But rest in peace Heath Ledger. [gradyslady]
i hope people will stop badmouthing him since he's already dead and he can't defend himself. that way, he will really rest in peace. [secretbear]
I always find it sad when someone dies young. Young actors and actresses have so much living that should have been ahead of them and so much more to give. I remember years ago when I used to watch a History time travel show. The young man on it thought blanks were not dangerous so he shot off a gun with blanks at his skull, just fooling around and it killed him. Blanks at a distance bounce off, but apparently are still deadly close up, esp. in the temple area (I once read that it only takes 1/10 lb. per square inch of force there to kill or perm. damage someone). Also one of the actors, I think he was Australlian, killed himself and he was a handsome body builder. He was on vacume cleaner commercials for awhile, too. I hope the next young people stay in one piece, talent shouldn't be going from dust to dust so early. [writersedge]
that young man proved himself to be stupid. ^.^ even if its blanks, there is still the force in the high speed velocity of the gun when fired. tsk. that was one freak accident. [secretbear]
I was shocked to have find out myself! This is the actual news information I have read so I will type it here: Academy Award nominee Heath Ledger, 28, has died of a possible drug overdose involving sleeping pills in New York, police have confirmed. The actor was sick with pneumonia when he died, the TMZ.com website reports, saying it had been contacted by representatives of Ledger's family, who said they'd been told by police that the actor's death was accidental. The representatives said the family was particularly distraught over media speculation that he may have taken his own life. New York police said they could not confirm Ledger was suffering from pneumonia. "This is the first I'm hearing that,'' Lieutenant John Grimpal, from the New York Police Department, told Macquarie Radio. "The medical examiner, once he or she conducts an autopsy, will determine exactly the cause of death.'' He said police were continuing to treat the New York apartment, where Ledger was found dead, as a crime scene, but had initially ruled out foul play. "Anytime someone dies, especially when they're so young, the detectives from the precinct conduct a thorough investigation just to rule out that criminality is not involved,'' Grimpal said. "Early on in the investigation it appears criminality is not involved.'' Found by housekeeper Ledger was found naked and unconscious in his bed at his $US23,000 a month apartment on Broome Street, SoHo, in Manhattan, by his housekeeper and a masseuse about 3.35pm local time, when they knocked on his bedroom door and got no reply. He had an appointment for a massage, said New York Police spokesman Paul Browne. Ledger's body was removed and wheeled into the back of a medical examiner's van in front of a huge crowd, including media. He was pronounced dead at 3.45pm (7.45am AEDT) by a medical examiner who went to the apartment. New York police officer Martin Brown said investigators would most likely not know the cause of death until an autopsy was held on the body. Asked if foul play had been ruled out, Officer Brown said it had not. "That's what needs to be investigated," Brown said. "It takes a while. The medical examiner will do an autopsy and they will determine the cause of death." So far in this information it still underdoing investigation to what really happened. I know his fans and his family will mourn for his lost. Rest In Piece Hedge! [darkangel079]
OMG, it will be more depressing if proven that he died by accident. thanks for the news bits. poor heath. i hope he's happy wherever he is now. its just so sad. [secretbear]
I agree that it's very sad that a talented actor has died due to illegal substance abuse. possibly. He was great in a Knight's Tale and I loved him in 10 Thing I Hate About You. He was a great actor and the world is going to be a little darker without his laughter. [bellaofchaos]
he was really a great actor. and he's still going to prove it in the film Dark Knight. that would be Heath's last film. its just so sad. [secretbear]
When my husband read the news on his cell phone he told me about it. I didn't believe him. We were just walking into our hotel room so he turned on CNN and there it was. It is just so sad. His little daughter is only a few months older than mine. They are saying he could possibly have accidentally overdosed on sleeping pills because he had said previously that he had sleeping problems. They found prescription and over the counter sleeping pills. [moneyandgc]
yeah, i've heard of that too. if its an accidental death then its more depressing. its really sad to lose a talented actor like him. poor daughter. [secretbear]
I am in shock too. I only saw him in Brokeback Mountain and Monster's Ball.he was a fine actor. He will be missed. [sarahruthbeth22]
yeah, he will definitely be missed. [secretbear]
this news deeply saddened me as heath was a talented young actor.here in australia media is at a frenzy,as well as new york.what bothers me is the speculations going around before the poor bloke has had a autopsy.we heard here there was no illegal drugs involved, but who knows the truth.rest in peace heath.sue [suehan1]
i want to believe that it was accidental. its all over the news here too. i am also deeply saddened over this. i just couldn't believe it. he was so young. [secretbear]
my husband told me this but he got the name wrong. so I watched the news myself it was just short and shocking. How awful, I love his performance in knights tale, like he was born for that role. He died at such a young age, not even 30 and already a great actor. I hope there is no crime involved [LittleMel]
i read that the police ruled out any possible foul play, i hope that's true. he's really a great actor. i first saw him in Knight's Tale and i really loved him there. [secretbear]
Everyones shocked on hearing this...especially cos he was at the peak of his career right now...at least theres solace in the fact that hes accomplished more in his lifetime than most others. RIP Ledger. [pterion]
yeah, at least he had accomplished a lot when he was still alive. i hope people will focus on that part. [secretbear]
I was so shocked... as in global shockerz type when I opened my multiply and someone posted that Heath Ledger was dead! I thought that it was some sort of joke since it was on multiply but then I checked my fave movie blog www.themovieblog.com and found out that it was true! OMG, I couldn't speak nor know how to react. I think it's a major loss to the movie industry especially now when he even got the role of Joke in the Dark Knight. What a waste and what a loss. I do hope that his soul rests in peace... God bless his family. [jynxypanda]
when i first heard the news, i thought i misunderstood it and hoped that what i heard was "almost died". so i patiently waited for the whole story and i was dumbfounded too when i learned that he did die. really a waste and a big loss. [secretbear]
I couldn't believe that he was gone when I heard. He is so young and the world has lost a very talented young man. I feel for Michelle even though they are not together any more and especially for his daughter. [garnet80]
yeah, he is young and there so much more ahead of him in the future. its really a waste for a good actor to die young, a great loss for his family and the industry. [secretbear]
Just like you, I was saddened by the news. Heath Ledger is a fine actor. I am waiting for The Dark Knight for the longest time to catch him play HIS version of The Joker ... because from the trailer it is sooo different. They said it's one of his best performances to date (sadly). This makes me even more interested to catch the movie, and watch him still alive and breathing. Everytime I think about his death, I remember a scene of 10 Things About You where he is singing "Can't Take My Eyes Off You." It's like I can't shake it off my brain. It's my number one favorite movie scene. According to the news, he has been having trouble sleeping due to stress and hectic movie schedules. That's why he was taking Ambien. I think he just accidentally overdosed - which sucks. Such a great loss indeed. [overdosed]
i've read that his version of Joker is a lot different from that of Jack Nicholson. in the Dark Knight, he's much more of a psychotic freak than a playful joker. he said that he really worked hard on that character, during the internalization whatsoever and he even created a voice solely for that character. what a great actor. i loved him in the Knight's Tale. whenever i see him i remember that film. that's where i started to like him. its really sad that he's gone. and yeah, dying accidentally sucks. but i think if he was discovered earlier he would have been revived. what a big loss. [secretbear]
I couldn't believe it either. And it's so sad because he has a 2 year old child. They said this morning they are going to be doing the autopsy but that they did find some prescription drugs beside his bed so they don't know if it was a accidental overdose or what. It's just sad though and he was so young. [sweetgirl_k1]
he was so young and it was such a waste that he died already. poor daughter. and its more depressing if he really died accidentally. what a loss. [secretbear]
I feel sad when i heard the news too. May he rest in peace. [nhicie]
its a really sad news. and i hope he's in a better place right now. i'm sure he's sad too that he left his daughter so early. [secretbear]
Regardless of how he died, it's a still a tragic waste of life and for someone so young and so talented, 28 is no age is it. This comes after a few days of another tragic loss in the film industry and another young guy dies, Brad Renfro! Double tragedy in a very small space of time. I didn't like Brokeback Mountain, hated the film but nevertheless he was a great actor and sadly missed. [wolfie34]
you're right. regardless of the way he died, its still a big loss since he died so early. he's just 3 years older than me! its really hard to believe. i will definitely watch the Dark Knight and i'm sure people will miss him when they see Joker. [secretbear]
I heard the news over the radio on my way to work this morning & I was SHOCKED!! I'm not a fan of his, but still, he's so young! [wyykidd]
yeah. even those who aren't fan of him are saddened by the news. he was so young and talented and really a waste and a loss. [secretbear]
Such a waste of talent and we are gonna miss him. Sometimes it is hard to understand life. He was just so young and could have reach more heights yet now he is gone! We will surely miss him and miss the laughs. Although this also happens to a lot of people, dying early... his death makes a big impact since he is admired by many. To Heath Ledger,,, our farewell. [jpso138]
you are right. his death makes a big impact because he is admired by many. he gave worthy entertainment, he showed everyone that he is a serious actor and he gives importance to his craft. indeed, he is such a big loss. he could have won awards in the future. [secretbear]
It was really a shock for me when I heard the news. He was never making the headlines for drug abuse or things like that. It seems like a ice and clean guy that always wanted to be there for his daughter. I still can't believe it. [beyonce03]
yeah. i also believe that he is a clean guy. thinking that he died accidentally because of overdose is really more depressing. he really is a big loss because he is such a nice guy. [secretbear]
Another news article said he was suffering from pnemonia and he got an overdose of the medication he took for his condition. [Estina54]
if that is true then it also proves that he didn't die of overdose of illegal drugs. [secretbear]
I do loved Heath Ledger when he is doing his role in each of his movie but I cannot imagine that he is a drug addict * God give Mercy on his Soul* [cherylal]
i don't believe that he is a drug addict. there was not a single news about him being so. i believe he is a clean guy. i believe he died accidentally. [secretbear]
I know exactly how you feel.I was in tears,it is still such a shock.I only hope the autopsy results can help us all make some sense from it all.I loved him in "The Patriot" I feel so sad for his young daughter Matilda having to grow up without her Daddy.Heath had so much to live for. [outonadate]
it was a real tearjerky news. those who really loved him for sure cried. i think i would like to believe that he died accidentally of overdose. he was having sleepless nights because of how he portrayed Joker. [secretbear]
When I heard about Heath being dead, I was going to come on mylot and start a discussion about it. But then I saw yours. It is really sad to hear of his passing. I thought he was such a great actor. I have watched almost all of his movies. The movie industry has really lost a great actor that could have been much more than what he was. I think my favorite movie of his was "10 things I hate about you". You know I still can't believe he is actually gone. What a shame!!! [speedy1279]
i also did a search about this before proceeding to create one. the only discussions i saw were about heath being in the 10 things i hate about you movie. so i started this. but then, after i finished this, that's the time i saw the other discussions about the same topic. ^__^;; he's really a big loss to the movie industry. he was a serious actor and he takes to his heart the roles he play. and i believe he was clean. and he loved everyone in his family especially his daughter. its really sad that he's gone so early. [secretbear]
I've loved Heath since "10 Things I Hate About You." I loved him even more in "A Knight's Tale" and "Casanova". Reading your discussion sent goosebumps. You see, I'm spending winter vacation in a country whose language I can barely speak or understand. English newspapers are unheard of! I can't find the time to check the news on the internet because I'm almost always out. And yes, no cable T.V.! I came across Heath's picture in yesterday's newspaper. Since, I couldn't understand much of what it says, I figured it's just some news about a new movie or something. But never as drastic as death! I'm heartbroken. He's my biggest crush! And it won't change no matter the cause of his death. I believe, we all, at one time, have done something we can never be proud of. So, I hope everybody ignores the gossips surrounding his death. It would be really good to just pray for his soul. I will. [christiana25]
hi christiana! heath is one of the few actors that i really admire. he is a serious actor and there's almost nothing as bad news about him in the papers or in tv. i believe that he died accidentally and that makes his death even more sadder. i will also pray for his soul. [secretbear]
Yea, I was shocked too when I saw the article in yahoo yesterday. I could not believe it really, thinking that he is still too young to be dead. But then the article was no joke and the actor is really dead. [mari_skye]
it was really a shocking news too. i saw it in Unang Hirit then at 24 Oras yesterday. but their news was so limited. thank goodness a lot of people here provided more informations. i only read the news on the newspapers today. [secretbear]
Yep, good ol' heath bar did himself in, that freaking no good numpty! Guy was a mash re-run at best anyways! [tomysole]
I believe that its an accidental death and he never intended to kill himself. he just wanted to have some sleep. [secretbear]
So sad really. He was one of the many that was taken too soon. I am still baffled as to my Mary Kate was called instead of 911. He might not have been lost if the right call were made for help. [razcal2267]
yeah, i'm wondering on that too. maybe Heath's housekeeper formerly worked for Mary Kate and since Mary kate owned the place before, the housekeeper decided to ask her what to do. [secretbear]
