I am planning to buy a collection of dvd movies. as i don't like the things that i watch on tv every day. and i get fed up with all the same dramas and soap and i don't like the movies i see on HBO and i don't like to wait for the movie to be shown on particular date. and so i made up my mind to buy some few action/adventure stories. i have some collection but i don't like it
i hope to find some good movies to buy that i will enjoy to watch.

responses and comments:
We only occasionally buy DVDs. It's stuff we really like. We get a lot of our DVDs on loan from the library. It's free, we can keep them for at least a week, often three, and we have something new on hand, if the TV is boring;) [jonesy123]
oh you are lucky that you can borrow from a library. we don't have library here that loans out dvd. [hotsummer]
i don't buy dvds anymore. i just download the movies that i want to watch. it's cheaper and i save a lot of money by doing that. [alatecablebill]
i have slow computer and so i avoid downloading on my pc cause it will make my computer slower. isn't it illegal to download cause i have read some people were apprehended as they were traced online to be downloading illegally. [hotsummer]
I don't like the programs on TV, too. There are too many advertisement and also there are no good programs. However, I never buy DVD movies, because I can download movies from Internet or watch online movies. DVDs are too expensive. There is little cost to watch movies on Internet. I like western movies and American TV series very much. If I buy DVD movies, I think it will cost a large amount of money. [felicityjiang]
yes it does cost money to buy a copy. so we better make sure that we like the movie before buying cause they don't come cheap. but some people like having a dvd copy and not just download on their computer. it is nice to have the cover and the pictures of the movie. [hotsummer]
ya...gr8 question frnd...am man who lik to be surrounded with dvd's all the sides...i ll purchase once in a month..,but tat ll more thn the days of the month!..lolz!!!....i ll buy atleast 15 movies a month fr sure....last month i hav bought 21 movies....so its based on our interest....n i dont believe tv's anymore..if i want to see a film..am havin computer n am having the film whch i want to see...sum times i ll download frm internet too.,whether if i could'nt get it in dvd...so all the bst frnd...strt ur collections soon in the future...happy mylotting frnd!.. [lalgudiraghul]
i have not watched those chinese movies you mentioned. i will look for it on stores and see if they are selling that. as long as there is english subtibles i can buy that. [hotsummer]
I rarely buy as I make my own copies by downloading the DVD copies from torrent sites. After that I burn it in a DVD-R/RW/DVD-R or DVD+R/RW. In this way I could saves a lot of money rather than buying collection which filled spaces. [neelianoscet]
i don't know how to copy. i tried to make a copy to my dvd disk one time. but i will try it again. can you give me tips on how to download it in black dvd. and i don't know if i bought the right blank dvd. but it says rewritable dvd on top of it. [hotsummer]
Never. Buying DVDs with the quantity of channels we have on cable TV plus the amount of reruns makes it pointless to waste moneys on DVDs. [KomiKomi]
in a way it is a waste of time for those who love watching movies as in crazy to watch movies every day it can be a good habit or collection. [hotsummer]
Dear hotsummer I used to purchase when the new movies or album released. It may be once in month or thrice in month. [rajupaul]
it seems you have a budget to buy each month. i don't have much money to buy. soi plan to buy rarely like once in every 3 months is enough specially dvd is not that cheap . but if teh movie is quite really good i don't mind paying for it even with such amount. [hotsummer]
Hi There, We at our homes don't need to buy any DVDs as we can easily download the latest movies from both hollywood and bollywood from the Internet. so why to spend money in buying dvds. [sunstar402]
i have not tried bollywood movies yet. but i think that they are cute and entertaining too. [hotsummer]
i always buy DVD's when i went to my native place the cost of dvd's are cheap there, i had a large collection of dvd movies [vinocitd]
yes , even here there are fake dvd that are cheap. most people here buy them but in some countries where the laws are stricter that they have to buy the original ones. [hotsummer]
I do not buy DVDs often. Maybe, once every few months. Mostly, I just rent movies through Netflix. I love being able to see a variety of movies and not having to buy the DVDs. I especially like renting old television show series, as those can be quite expensive to purchase. [antarcticpostcards]
do any movie site that accepts debit card payments. i do have debit card hope to use that too soon. [hotsummer]
the tv world has so much dominated the people that DVD has become their second options.I do not buy DVD's as we get no time to waste 3 hours watching movies rather than i prefer watching TV while movies can only be watched on weekends is a better option. [coolcat123]
yeah dvd is so popular. i just wonder if they will replace dvd with better alternative. but as i see that they can't invent any thing better than dvd . [hotsummer]
I'm buying DVDs a lot nowadays for pretty much the same reasons! The soaps are rubbish, the films on TV don't interest me, the main channels are even full of repeats and there are simply many many good films I've yet to see or haven't seen in years! I buy DVDs whenever I have spare cash, although I wait for them to go down first. My budget at the moment is £3 or under per DVD excluding box sets, which sounds like a small amount but most are that price now and DVDs from last year have already gone down that far. [thoseappleslooknice]
yeah it is good to wait for the price to go down first before buying them. but you have to wait for the price to go down first before you can watch it but if you can't wait then of course you have to be willing to spend a little more. even here there are lots of original dvd's on sale. but the thing is , most on sale are really old movies from 90's and below. if they are least from year 2000's i may buy. [hotsummer]
For me, I'll buy DVD if I happens to miss any movies I intended to catch when it is showing on screen in the cinema or maybe if I watched a movie in the cinema and I love it so much that I wanna watch it again. Also, I love collecting movies that won the Academy Awards for 'Best Costume Design' because I am a Fashion Designer/Stylist and I could possibly get some inspirations for my creations from movies as well. [dknkyle]
yes movies really give us a lot of inspiration which what i like too about movies. [hotsummer]
We buy dvd/blu ray movies very often! Our house could be a video store. Lol. It all depends on your likes and dislikes... What are you into? [prikayjo2436]
Well... The movie Contract Killer is pretty good! It has stunts that you might like! If you like action and suspense you should see the movie Taken! I have not heard not one bad comment on that movie! [prikayjo2436]
I don't actually buy dvd movies but my girlfriend does buy at least three movies in a month. She's fond of horror movies, so am I [reploid]
i don't like horror movies. i had one action movies i like. the characters are vampires but they are not scary actually they are more an action movie than a horror movie and it is not scary. there is no scary story at all. just like they just are wearing a long fang and that's all. nothing really scary. [hotsummer]
I buy dvd's only when I see one that appeals to me that is reasonably priced. I really don't have the money at this time to go buying any DVD that appeals to me. It is important to be able to make purchases that you think that you are really going to use and like. IN my way of thinking a DVD is strictly an optional item. [snowy22315]
yeah it is and should be something optional. cause i would hate to see one day that we can only watch our own movie of our choice if we need to buy one. good thing there are so many free to watch online. [hotsummer]
I don't really have much time to watch DVDs nowadays because I am practically in front of my laptop all day. If there's a need to rest my laptop a bit, I would just enjoy watching TV for a while and get back to surfing the net. The last time I bought a DVD though was last Sunday but I never really had the chance to watch it myself. My family has finished watching it but I aven't even seen even a glance of the movie. I don't know when I'll be buying another one but for sure the movie should be something I would be dying to watch for me to exert an effort to buy and watch it despite having the internet and cable tv. [calai618]
i am in front of my computer most of the time but it is too quite and so i thought why not play dvd on the back ground while iam busy in front of the computer. [hotsummer]
Hardly ever now! As I have cable I love purchasing those movies on front row, I think that they can be pretty good. I think that dvds are becoming a thing of the past, I'm sure that they will be phased out in time. Purchasing movies on cable now is definitely the way to go or ordering another movie channel or something. Andrew [AndrewFreyne]
what do you mean purchasing by cable. i hope dvd won't be phased out so soon cause i would want to have my own collection first . [hotsummer]
Let me think, I usually buy DVDs every week and at least I buy 3 new movies! Movies on cable are already reruns... [Tantrums]
yeah i hate reruns it is getting boring to watch them always. i don't flip my remote to HBO or Cinemax any more. i hate the moveis they are showing now. mostly are very old movies from 80's . ridiculous actually. [hotsummer]
I don't buy DVDs very often. It's not that I don't want to maybe go buy one, once in a while. It's just that, right now, my fiance and I don't really have the money to afford to buy some dvd's very often. [dodo19]
yeah the last time i bought a dvd was a yaer ago. it is not only because the rice is expensive but it was more that i don't find any interesting dvd to buy that time. [hotsummer]
I don't because I don't have a DVD player, but I plan to get one and then I'll mostly rent from Redbox or Netflix. I won't buy many movies except my favorite ones. I've never been a big movie buyer. I don't like most movies enough to watch them more than three times. [cripfemme]
it is nice to have dvd player even if you don't want that often. so for sometimes we want to watch something or some occasion a friend will bring dvd of some certain events like birthdays , wedding and etc. then having a dvd player is good. [hotsummer]
We don't buy them very often. We have a Netflix membership so we end up just renting lots of movies each month. What we don't get from Netflix we can get from the library. If we really, really, really like a movie we might buy it but we usually just rent them. We used to buy a lot of movies, but that expensive after a while, so we just decided to rent them from now on. [ladym33]
is this netflix an online rental site. or some offline rental dvd shop. cause i quite hear it often or read it somewhere online. [hotsummer]
Im the same way we recently started where we buy a few each month we might buy about 2 or 3 because we will let the kids pick out one or two then we pick one. I choose to start buying dvd cause I hardly watch tv at all I dont like going to the thearters especailly with the cost so we just buy a couple each month shoot even buy 2 or 3 of them a month it's still cheaper than going to the movies especailly with 7 of us that would be a small fortune for us. [christylynn]
wow you are so many in the family. definitely it is better to buy dvd. and also it is more enjoyable to watch at home than in theaters nowadays. [hotsummer]
It's nice to own a collection of movies. I usually buy dvds every month. I like to be able to watch the movies many times. Though, I must admit, it is expensive to buy so many dvds. Right now my collection of dvds is very extensive and I not able to find any more space to put them. lol They are stacked in every corner, nook and cranny. Eventually, I'm looking into buying from Netflix. [dasani]
i would like to buy in netflix too. since i can save money online and will use that for netflix also. [hotsummer]
i bought one of the dvd movies. but that don't have many good movies. and i don't like them very much. every one was not have the correct song with the act. so i have to don't watch them. [fwangaa]
yeah sometimes we like the movie in few time but after while we may get tired watching them and don't like to have them as our collection. so i make sure only to buy that i will love to be in my collection . [hotsummer]
I'm an avid fan of movies,i use to buy buy dvd's but now i just try to download them first on the internet just to make sure that the movie is up to my taste before i buy one [Amasid]
yeah, better check if the movie is really worth the money. cause it is not easy to earn money and we don't feel sorry that we have purchased it. [hotsummer]
We dont buy many dvds they are expensive and no sense rewatching same movie over and over. If the dvd is on sale and cheaper sometimes i will buy it. Usually the only time we buy a dvd is if the kids ask for it for chrismtas or their birthday. [good2go2001]
yeah i only plan to buy those on sale. but if i really love the movie, it does not matter if worth big money. [hotsummer]
I have never bought a DVD move. I am a member of DVD renting company and get all the DVD that I want to watch through this rental company. For all foreign movies (read Indian movies) I have joined a local store in my city. [AniruS]
wow. luckily you are working for DVD company and you can borrow only and don't ahve to pay for any thing. [hotsummer]
I rarely buy original DVD movies.lol What I do sometimes tho, is to go to video rental stores and rent some pretty good movies there. I do also rarely buy some DVD from flea markets (pirated) because most of the DVDs there are defective and can't play them with my player. [incredibleDNA]
renting out is wise. i may do that too. but the sad thing is the rental shop here are only have old movies and don't have much good movies for rent. [hotsummer]
Hello hotsummer. I used to have bought quite a few DVD movies and my good friends have also given me a lot of them when they leave the working place where we worked together. Now I don't buy them any more as I can watch movies on the Internet for free, which is a cheap way for us. But I do not often watch them, just once in a while when I don't want to do anything else. Enjoy yourself, friend. [williamjisir]
i used to have friends who i can borrow dvd. actually during those times it was only vcd's. but now we have dvd's. i don't have contact with those friends any more as they have relocated already. [hotsummer]
I bought about 20 DVD's a few years ago. They served their purpose. I watched them a few times and that was it. In this day and age where you can stream movies online I do not think it is necessary to purchase DVD's. Instead sign up for netflix...it is much better. [jross19871]
my internet connection is not that fast. that is why i don't often watch them for free online. maybe i would have to consider upgrading to faster internet speed. [hotsummer]
it depends on the movie, if we can't see it on the theater well we will buy one.. i think twice a month..happy [janebeth]
yes you are right, [janebeth]
I usually ending up buying DVDs when I've seen the movie already. I tend to like Indies, and after awhile, it becomes hard to find them at the video store. If I really like a movie and know that I will want to watch it again, then I buy it. If it's something I just want to see once, I'll probably rent it. There is a store around me that sells really old movies for $3, so I do buy those sometimes. That's still cheaper than my Blockbuster rental price...so how can I go wrong? Some of the movies I love that I have bought include "Stranger than Fiction," "Marie Antoinette," "Lost in Translation," "Napoleon Dynamite," and "Out of Africa." I have watched them all more than a few times. I am not obsessed with them, just maybe once a year I will feel like watching something I know I will enjoy over and over. happyhappyhappy [AnythngArt]
yeah it is not easy to find indie movies. even here. but they are not really that expensive but they are not that long too. usually they are less than 2 hours. like 1 1/2 hours only mostly. i am talking about local indie movies. actually they are nice movies to watch. they are not technically great with not much special effects, but story wise they can be as good as commercial movies. they are great rave now for some indie movies right now. they are winning awards also. they are bringing pride into our country cause they are winning in international awards which the commercial movies locally failed to do. [hotsummer]
I used to. I buy about 3 pieces of DVD per week. Some of the movies are current. So I save some money instead of going to the cinema. The old ones I normally give away. [gracefuldove]
yeah considering the price of cinema it is better to buy a copy instead. [hotsummer]
oh we buy dvd occusionally, because we just recently know how to download movies in the torrents. [amyson]
it is good that you know already how to download from torrent. what kind of movies do you download there. [hotsummer]
hello hotsummer, i don't buy dvd movies. but my eldest son is the one keep on buying those. he has a lot of collections already. when there is nothing to watch in tv, he is watching those that he bought. he is using his savings in buying those especially when they are on sale. [robert19ph]
i don't buy dvd movies often. although there are a lot of it displayed in the sidewalks (pirated) and u have the chance to try it on their players, we don't buy them often or on a regular basis. it is only when we hear some good movies are shown and we opt to see it at a cheaper price with most of us watching it at the same time that i go and look for that particular movie. just last week (after a very long time), my daughter bought several seasons of a particular tv series. they were of good copy. i am fond of action/adventure movies too. it does not lull me to sleep while watching lol [moneymakingtoday]
i used to buy in sidewalks. but i don't buy there any more. there are lots in some small malls. they sell in cheaper price too. [hotsummer]
I occasionally buy DVDs if it is something that I am really interesting in watching. Yes, the dramas and soaps on TV do get a little bit boring sometimes. The thing I like about DVDs is that I can keep them for about a year, if I feel they are good enough to keep, and then watch them again as if I am watching for the first time because I have forgotten them.. Unless they are really good, and then I tend not to forget them, but I am quite happy to watch them again. If they are not so good, I put them on e-bay or Amazon and sell them.. happy - Derek [derek_a]
but when i like the soap on tv . i would buy a copy of dvd. so i can watch it often. [hotsummer]
I would like to buy more DVD movies but unfortunately I do not have enough money to buy them. But if I did have the money, I would buy my favorite movies on DVD all the time. There are many movies that I like to watch over and over again because they are so good to watch. But I also like to rent DVD movies because then I can find out what movies I like the best so I can buy my favorite instead of buying a DVD movie that I do not like well enough to watch over and over again. [horsesrule]
yeah it is good to start renting. i may go do so. but if i enjoy the movie a lot i will buy a copy. [hotsummer]
i would like to buy dvd movies but unfortunately i do not have enough money for spending on, so i will buy the movies which is good enough, and it is worth to watch for the second or third times.otherwise, i prefer to rent them form shops as the rent fee is lower than buy it a new one. as if i do not like it at all, it was not waste more money. good luck and have a nice day! [haiershen]
me too. i make sure it is very good movie because i have not money too. [hotsummer]
I buy once in awhile, and especially when the urge arises. I think that DVD movies are something that we can't do without from time to time, and it's a great renaissance from the movies we've watched in cinemas. Watching dvd has its special treatment and I totally love it. [zed_k4]
Those days, right.. lol.. I'm with you too; I love original DVDs even though they are expensive. Must save up more then.. [zed_k4]
Unfortunetly I have to say that not that often at all! I don't know why, maybe it's just because movies and TV shows are so easily and freely accessible in so many other ways, you know. I think unless you're a collector or not very patient or just a big fan you're more likely to end up buying the dvd's whenever their released. Otherwise maybe most people are just like me at this then. [Eisenherz]
yeah you got it right. i am a big fan of some movies and so i will want to have a copy. even if i will not watch it every day. at least i will be happy to own a copy of it. [hotsummer]
Hi Hotsummer,I myself seldom buy DVDs because I will easily fall sleep if were to watch DVD at home. My husband used to buy alot of DVDs (pirated one) while we were in Johor. They are selling pretty cheap and some are very good in quality although are not original one. I prefer to go to cinema to catch a movie. I have not been visiting cinema for the past 2 years. Since I have my boy, I don't have time to go to cinema and now I am not a movie maniac anymore. Sometimes we can catch a very nice movie from TV channel too,of course, they are not playing a new movie, some are old movies, but they are nice to watch. Save out $$ and we can enjoy some titbits at home while watching TV Movie. [shia88]
where is JOhor. anyways, it is nice to watch with someone else in the room so we won't get bored. [hotsummer]
Id love movies. Its one of the things that help myself rest. I used to buy DVD movies before, but now, because of the existence of computer technology and internet, I can now watch movies I like on the net. [drakkar]
yeah it seems that internet did affect the sales of dvd. and people just watch online. [hotsummer]
Hey hotsummer I notice you want to see some new good movies but once you have bought a new collection and saw this. You aren't going to watch these dvds for about a year. You've got internet so why don't you download some movies online. They offer you every movie on the net. You just have to watch your download limit. take care [mattivdw]
it is not really easy to follow the tutorial on the net. sometimes they make it sound so easy. but then i will encounter something different on my computer on how it works and it is not exactly how it happens on the tutorial. and so it makes following those tutorial pretty difficult for me. anyways, i will keep trying cause i like to collect movies by downloading too. just trying to learn some good movies i will be interested in . [hotsummer]
I used to buy a lot of DVD movies, and then I realized that I'm really wasting my money. If I wanted to watch a movie nowadays, I'll rent it for a $1 for the local REDBOX, or join one of those movie clubs online where they will ship the movie to your house for you. I used to be a member of Netflix, but I discontinued my membership there as I had gotten really tired of them not having the movie that I wanted in stock, causing me to wait even longer. So now I will just rent movies from the local REDBOX rental kiyosk at Walmart or Walgreens. [hdjohnson]
yeah even in my local rental store of videos there are very few good movies for rent that is why i don't go back there. most of the time to find your movie of choice you have to buy one and not just rent here. and so rental kiosk here are not doing very well. [hotsummer]
I don't buy them very often anymore unless it's a movie I really like and want to add to my collection. I have a Netflix account and it's so easy to get any movie I want to watch in a matter of a couple of days, I just don't spend the money to buy them. If it is one I really want though, I wait a while for the price to come down. They're always expensive right after they are released, but if you wait a few months, you can save 50% or more. [millertime]
They have monthly plans starting at $8.99 but I think they only serve the United States. You could check with them though. netflix.com [millertime]
My husband 10 years ago decided he wanted to do the same thing with VHS Tapes. Remember them. So his little adventure started and kept on growing until he had over 500 hundred, yes 500 hundred of them. Now they are dinasours and He tried to sell them for which he got a meager 5 cents a pieces for them. Collect as you wish but be advise technology continues to grow and as such you should only keep them for 6 months and then try and sell them on ebay to get your money back. Because to you what might be a collectors item may not be for others. [sherric1222]
yeah vhs was the thing before. but the vhs does not last as dvd. and so i stopped using vhs as they develop mold inside the tape. [hotsummer]
It is rare for me to purchase a new dvd. I will if it is something I really like or a really good deal. I usually will just get them at a pawn shop...usually at $2 each-a great savings, plus I can trade in the old ones I am tired of or didn't like. [erikmama]
wow. do they sell at pawnshop dvd. i may try to look for dvd in pawnshop too. [hotsummer]
We are always buying movies every chance we get. We only have a few channels to watch and it gets boring to watch things over and over again. We have a lot of movies in our home right now. And every time I am trying to find a movie to watch I feel like I'm at the movie rental place trying to find a movie to rent lol. [trisha27]
yeah it is really nice to keep watching same movie over and over again. love doing it. [hotsummer]
When I saw something worthwile in the stores, I will usually throw down a few bucks to purchase it. Most places charge an arm and a leg, and the movie turns out to stink. Places like walmart and fye seem to be a bit more reasonable. [geminikid]
yeah i had that experience. i was so excited to have the money to shell out. and i was so excited to choose a dvd that i think will be a good buy. but after purchasing with a handsome amount when i get to play i was so totally disappointed and felt i just threw my money to waste. and was just so pissed off that it didn't give the satisfaction that i was looking for which made me to buy and pay a high price in the first place. i felt like i was fooled with their advertisement and etc. and so i am so careful to choose the movie i will buy. i make sure i have watched before i buy it as my collection. it is not easy to earn money to buy that dvd. [hotsummer]
I buy DVD movies either for Christmas gift of maybe it is someone birthday. I do not buy them regularly because we are on a budget like many people are right now. [happy6162]
we have so many dvd's actually but it is not mine and so though i can get them from m y cabinet, i didn't like the choice of movies of my family. so i don't watch them. and so i plan to buy my own collection. some things that i love to watch for myself [hotsummer]
hi hotsummer from now i not buying DVD because i have a computer and internet I can watch all movie that i really like... but on 2004 i have no computer and internet I buy DVD in Pirated copy yes I'm really honest i buy pirated dvd because can afford the original i buy dvd in Muslim Store you know what there a lot of store of pirated DVD in my place The all store is Muslim store, i choice the DVD that a lot movie, however but now I' will not longer buy,.a dvd because i have a computer and internet?happy [jen14ed]
yeah i think most people here in the philippines are buying pirated dvd's, there are so many pirated dvd's in asia. including malaysia, thailand , indonesia, china and etc. i don't know in singapore korea and japan and other rich countries. i think they have stricter laws. [hotsummer]
i seldom buy dvd. but i always choose to download some movies from the internet, then i can watch them at any time, and also leisurely. wink [yolanda19191]
well, except that one, maybe u also can search for more local ones. doing sth others online when downloading, it also can save u some time, i think. wink [yolanda19191]
i buy dvds if the movie i want to watch is not available online, i watched most movies online for free, i buy dvds --- series ones, complete season of a drama or anime or cartoons... the latest i bought was DEATHNOTE complete season... its available online but sometimes it buffers... but mostly some series and animes, i watched them online!!! happyhappy [shhheila]
yeah i hate those buffering. there is one site before i that i can watch the whole movie for free without much hassle though buffering is still there. i just forgot the name of the website. i was not able to bookmark it. where do you watch for free. all i use is youtube as of the moment which is not really a good place to watch movies. i don't like to download i just want to watch it online. [hotsummer]
i rarely buy dvd's. only when there is a sale and i haven't seen it yet on hbo or cable tv. [Ritchelle]
you're correct in that not all movies in youtube is complete. take the case of mr. and mrs. smith. i watched it in the moviehouse and saw a version of it uploaded which got me thinking that the totality of the links only amounted to 50 minutes. luckily, i got myself a copy of that in dvd as am fascinated by the colors that angelina jolie wears based on her coloring and the roles she's playing... [Ritchelle]
Quite often. Either from a club or store on online from Amazon. Whenever I come across a good deal on something interesting or something I want I get it. [Canellita]
yes amazon is a good source to buy things or cd online. they deliver fast. [hotsummer]
I do not buy dvd movies as i do not have a dvd player in my housesad.I love to watch movies that come in the different cable channels. Here we have a channel called bindass where the show action films most of the time.I too will start renting or purchasing dvd movies when i buy a dvd player. Two of my uncles have dvd players in their home and it is a great source of entertainment.happyhappy [vicky30]
