Is There A Movie That Scared The Crap Out Of You As A Young Kid

For me it was Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds. I was only about 3 years old and I begged to stay up to watch it. Finally giving in after telling me a million times that I would be scared my parents relented. I was so scared I could have pooped my pants! LOL To this day I HATE birds and if I see them congregate I could die!

Yes!!!! I will always remember when I first saw the Sixth Sense. I didn't actually see that much of it, because I kept on shutting my eyes closed, but I saw more than enough dead during this film. I LOATHE scary films, and I always do my best to stay away from them now. [MBourgeois]

i'm not sure how old i was, but i seen aracnaphobia and spiders still scare me today. Spiders and moths. I'm not sure why the moths. [Sissygrl]

Yes The Wizard Od Oz...my mum had to take me and my sister out of the theatre, screaming...when the house was flying...I can still remember it.....:) [lilaclady]
LOL.. wow.. you must have lived a life of terror for years when it appeared year after year on television!!!!! I have to say you're the first I've heard that feared The Wizard of Oz but I can truly relate! It really would be a scary thing for a child! [hockeygal4ever]

The Blob, I think I was about 6 years old the first time I saw it, I stuffed towels under my bedroom door for months. I also closed the curtains on the windows very tight and the same for the closet. I was one scared puppy. Friday night where i was raised was fright night on TV, it is funny, that is the only movie that really scared me. Now as an adult there are others - but we won't go there. [Debs_place]

Home Alone. I was so scared I'd be in the same situation and not end up as lucky. [Methodless]

Nice discussion. Alfred hitchcock's movies were really scaring. But the one that scared me most, when I was a kid, was The Shining, by Stanley Kubrick. Really scared me. Other was Rosemary's Baby (1968) by Roman Polanski. [jricbt]
My mom wouldn't let me see Rosemary's Baby. Of course I was only 5 then.. lol.. so I can't really blame her! [hockeygal4ever]

The Exorcist... it had such a huge affect on me as a child and an adult .. it was just as scary when I watched it when I was older ... Poltergeist also was another really scary movie for me as a kid.. I Love Scary movies nothing beats them.. have a wonderful day :) [shuz697]

the one I remember is the Tv version of Salems Lot, especially when the young boy is floating outside his brothers window.....creepy. A brilliantly made atmospheric film. [steerpyke]
I turned the movie off at that point. Once I saw the boy floating outside the hospital window that was it. Too much for me. Off it went and I curled up on the couch afraid to move. [emeraldisle]

i watched the birds and it frightened me so bad i still didlike birds to this day, they scare the life out of me. i also watched physcho , bates motel when i wass young and it frightened me too. my daughters love scary movies , the scarier the better but my son wont watch anything scary. [superbren]

Well the first scary movie I really remember seeing that scared me was Friday the 13th. I was up most of the night with it afterwards. It might not have been so bad but that summer I went to camp. Let me tell you it came back real fast even though it had been a few months. Amazing how those things stick with you. The only other one as a pre-teen that scared me was The Changeling. That one really got to me. I have it now and it can still give me goosebumps. I enjoy it everytime but it does make me look twice at wheelchairs especially when I am alone. [emeraldisle]

Another poster mentioned this, but I would absolutely go with "The Shining". Kubricks filming style is just so creepy. I mean he can even make a kid riding a big wheel big on carpet, then floor, carpet, floor, carpet floor.....even now something about it really creeps me out. Plus the whole film just looks so washedout and sickly. Everything about it uncomfortable. Jack Nickleson just has such an aura of evil! Those two twin girls who flash on the screen also really freaked me out . I used to be afarid I would wake up and find them standing in my room! [twilight021]
Yeah... Nicholson was priceless in that! [hockeygal4ever]

I actually can think of two movies that scared me really badly when I was a kid. The first is the one you mentioned. I was not as young as you when I saw it but it had a lasting affect and I to this day can not watch it thanks to my cousin. I was staying at his house and we ended up watching The Birds. I had my eyes covered the majority of the time. Then the next day we were coming back from lunch, he handed me his open bag of pretzels and a flock of seagulls attacked me to get them. To this day I see a crow of birds and I get all freaked out. The other movie was "Dial M for Murder" It was the first 3D movie I ever saw. I think it being in 3D more then anything was the reason it scared me. It was not as traumatic as The Birds but it still has left a lasting impression. [razcal2267]
Hmmmm... my younger stepdaughter has a bird phobia. One got in the house one day and she freaked! I'll have to ask her if it was from watching the movie! [jillbeth]

yup. i was only 9 when i watch these film entitled "sleep away camp". i had quite a few nightmares about the film but, if i could get a copy of that i'd still watch it. :) [sevnthjuly]

Yes, I remember that movie, it was scary. The other movie I was scared to see was The Exorcist. That was very satanic and I had nightmares after I saw it. [mimatexas]
I never actually saw that until I was a grown, married adult! LOL (The Exorcist) [hockeygal4ever]

the only movie that has scared me is jeepers creepers [lprhll]

Exorcist.oooooooooooooooooooooooooooh!!! i literally shat in my pants and wet my bed for years to come after watching that. I used to have nightmares abt the horrible face and had a hard time sleeping. [satyaranjan1980]

I'm a huge baby about scary movies... even today. I can't watch them. The first movie that really scared me was also The Wizard of Oz, as another person mentioned LOL Those dang flying monkeys and the Wicked Witch. I was really young and holy smokes... I guess I didn't expect it or something but I found it frightening. Then, in about Grade 7, I decided to be brave and go see the first "Halloween" movie with my friends. Yeah. Um. I saw the inside of my jacket all night LOL I decided then and there that horror films (even the campy kind) were just not for me! [thinkingoutloud]

I was a little kid and it was planet of the apes, also psycho, I didn't like scary movies as a kid, or even creepy ones. When I was really really young, about 3 I got scared from Rudolph the Red nosed Reindeer, when the abomidable snowman was after then. I didn't like Willard either. [nowment]
OMG.. I had forgotten planet of the apes, although that wasn't scary at all to me.. I LOVED it! LOL Willard, made me fall in love with the song "Ben" because that was the name of the one rat in the movie and Michael Jackson sang "Ben". I actually had a STUFFED pet rat that I named Ben. LOL [hockeygal4ever]

Oh Stephen King's "IT"...that was one of those film that stick right deep into my head.Probably one of the reason why I don't really like clowns, they freaked me out. That Pennywise was really scary,I swear whenever a clown get close to me I get frantic! [othala]
As much as I hate clowns too... I love to hate that movie! LOL [hockeygal4ever]

I love Hitchcock movies and started watching them when I was young. I don't think I was ever really scared by any of them. I watched The Exorcist, though, when I was 8 and I had nightmares for years. Since it was based on a true story and happened to a young girl, I thought the same could happen to me. It was awful [brimia]

Hi! The Wizard of Oz used to scare me! The scary thing for me was the tornado! I was always deathly afraid of tornadoes, even into my adulthood, until recent years. Watching storm chasers helped teach me that it's better to know where the tornado is and that there are safe ways to see where it is going. :-) [clownfish]
Oh those flying monkeys used to frighten me! LOL But I loved the movie just the same. [hockeygal4ever]

The Shining. The Howling...the only part I watched is the only part I remember is the transformation from man to werewolf. Because of that movie, I refuse to watch anything that has to do with vampires or werewolves. I don't even like to be kissed on the neck. CREEPY [phatkat]

Hey ! Actually .. my firs scaring experience was Chucky .. I don`t really know how old i was when i saw it .. but it shure scared the hell out of me and my younger sister .. After we saw the movie .. we were so scared .. that we cuddled in each others arms .. and stood up until next day morning .. as we were home alone and my mom was arriving home only at 6 am.. It marked me so deeply that movie .. and yet i wanted to see Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky too .. but i must confess i coulnd`t do that .. uhh .. so scary .. [ChrissyGirl]
Oh.. Chucky is creepy 4 sure! [hockeygal4ever]

When I was about fourteen yeas old I went to see Dracula. I was so scared that I wouldn't walk home from the cinema with my friends. I thought that at any minute I might see fangs coming from their mouths. I still wouldn't watch that film if I was in the house on my own. [Alexandria37]

i watched Demons as a small small child and i remember it to this day. i could not sleep for days! [dragonflyfli]

The movie that scared the living daylights out of me when I was younger was chuckie. I was really young and not suppost to e watching the movie. But me being the slick little girl that I was went into my room and watched it anyway. For about 2 months after I saw chuckie I though he lived under my bathroom sink and I would not go into the bathroom or take a shower unless sombody was in there with me. I don't know what scared me so much but now that I am older I watch chuckie all of the time. Ieven go out of my way to try and find a movie that will scare me but nothing has even come close to scaring me now. [Lady_Vincy]

I was 6 years old it was archnaphobia that scared me. Stupid movie lol. [fub21a]
I didn't think the movie was so "scary" as much as I hate spiders anyways so it was creepy! LOL [hockeygal4ever]

Hi! Oh, I forgot about this one! It's an oldie, but a goodie! We used to convince our parents to let us watch it with the lights out. It was The Ghost and Mr. Chicken! LOL We used to love that movie! :-) [clownfish]

"the Psycho" did!! i was terrified after seeing tht movie!! [nishanity]
I think Psycho changed how EVERYONE showered for YEARS! LOL [hockeygal4ever]

This is probably showing my age, but the movie that scared the crap out of me when I was younger was Satan's Claw. It was one of those B-Rated flicks, on Super Host, on Saturday afternoons. Man was I scared. [shopgirl]
Hey, I love some of those oldies but goodies. I watch this syndicated series every Saturday at 2am from Buffalo that shows nothing but those type of movies. As "low budget" as some are... they're still a great piece of movie history. [hockeygal4ever]

As I write this I can't really say which movie in particular scared the bejeezus out of me...I just remember that when I was a kid I'd watch a spooky movie and put my hand up to my eyes and peek through fingers! I thought that as long as I did that nothing would happen to me; the bogey man couldn't get to me...lol [cjsmom]

Stephen King's "It" used to scare the bejeebers out of me when I was a little kid. Every time I used the restroom I would look down the sink first. Every time I passed a gutter, I would look down at my feet. Geez.. it's making me eerie talking about it even now! [lazywalt99]
Oh I just bought that one on DVD and I love it. It scares the crap outta me too! LOL [hockeygal4ever]

the omen 1, the old omen movie, the sound track till now still make me guesbum. [mamatika]

For me, it was Phantasm. I was about 9 and that movie scared the crap out of me. I had nightmares for weeks. I wasn't supposed to watch it; the babysitter let me. My mom was so mad! LOL [sndcain]
Phantasm. WOW!!! I used to have a replica of that silver orb from the movie. I wished I still ahd it. I'm sure it would ne worth some money today. [webeishere]

YESS!! LOL!! Theer was one movie only that scaredme so bad i had nightmares for years after!! I was 13 yrs old and at a sleep over with a bunch of us girls, and someone rented DEMONS..its about Two girls that attend a special screening of a horror movie in an isolated theater. The film is so involved that it takes possession of the viewers and transforms them into zombie demons who attack other theater goers. The demons were so damn scary that i was sick i was so scared..but i didint want anyone to make fun of me..so i watched the whole thing..i didnt sllep that night..and kept my night light on or a month..I NEVER USED A NIGHT LIGHT TILL THEN!! LOL!! wel of course i grew out of it..but it was the scariest i had ever seen back then..and now..im on Netflix..i think i will rent it againa nd see why it scad me so much..i havent watch it since lol.. [cloud_kicker_32]

My family went to see the original Planet of the Apes when it came out in the theater (1968 or 1970?) It was pretty scary, and the ending stuck with me for days afterward. Plus I was a kid and seeing it on the big screen, in the dark. [Idlewild]

When I was ten, my mother gave me money to see the latest Dsiney mvoie with my friend Janice. There were 2 movies playing in the same theater (this was the late 1950s), and we went to see "Sinbad the Sailor" instead of the Disney movie. I had nightmares for a week, then finally told my mom which movie we saw. I got grounded. By today's standards, this B-movie was trash, but it scared me silly! [lilibetha]

I think I was 5-7 years old when I watch the movie "It" based on the book of Stephen King?! (not sure about this) It is really scary that I had a phobia with clowns. Everytime we have to attend children's party I actually don't want to go but my parents are insisting me. When I saw clowns I remember I cried all day. I never forget the experience. But thank God, I already get over with clowns. So I don't have any problems when seeing them. [rzr247]
Yes, IT. Stephen Kings famous for that movie! I love it! [hockeygal4ever]

This sounds silly I know but for me it was the original Jaws movie, I had nightmares about it for months afterwards (only from young at the time)and couldn't go to the bathroom by myself incase the shark came out of the toilet! [nglanfield]

For me it wasn't a movie, but Twilight Zone. I was always scared when they came on every week when I was little. I use to hide under my blanket when the scary parts came. There was one in particular that scared me. A spaceship landed in this old ladies attic and through most of the show she was fighting them off. After killing most of them, they retreated back to their spaceship and took off. As you saw the ship leave, it showed the side of the ship. It was an American flag! Who was the alien? . your friend [EdwardF]
They had a Twilight Zone marathon for New Years Eve and New Years day on the Sci-fi channel. I was in heaven. Seriously cuddled in my bed most of both days and nights and watched it nonstop! LOL [hockeygal4ever]

yeah! i remember the movie "candy man".. until now i cant say candy man infront of a mirror five times.. i still think he will come back and hunt me! and also the "ice cream men" shoot! it made stop having ice cream for a year! even now im old i can get scared easily. and also the movie "ring" it still scarse me that i cant even watch the sequel of that trilogy. i guess psychologically horror movies like that really scares me and buried to my deepest thought. [lossforredwords]

Yes, it was that movie called Childsplay with that horrible Chucky doll in it. I used to have really bad nightmares after watching that film and for some reason i hated to look in the full length mirror on the outsdie of the wardrobe in my bedroom becuasee i had an irrational fear that if i looked into it i'd see Chuckie and he'd come and get me. I have sicne watched the later ones and i have to say although they're a bit gory they didn't scare me half as much! Oh, and i can look into mirror these days with only the worry of how bad my hair/make-up etc looks, lol! [hezoid]

GHOULIES did when I was little...and other silly movies..like..um..LEGEND [ArsonCuff]

I also watched that movie when I was young, it scared the crap out of me. I still think of that movie when I see birds lined up on the power lines. I haven't seen that movie in many years, I would like to see it again. [Polly1]

For me it was one of Stephen King's novels that was made into a movie. Ironically I read the book many years later from when I first saw "The Shining". It still gave me the chills. Jack really scared me. I think I saw it when I was 8 years old. [favorgrays]
Jack was the bomb in that movie for sure! I agree... most everything King is frightening. He bases so much on your slight fears of realistic things and then intensifies them for a real scare! [hockeygal4ever]

my mom took my brother, sister and I to go see jaws in 3D. OMG that was soooooo scarey, i was about like 5 or 6, but to be wearing those 3D glasses and to see this great white shark coming right at you with it sharp teeth chopping at ur face, that would scare anyone. i took the glasses off and watched the blurry movie the rest of the time. [missyd79]

"The Ring" did scare the hell out of me.Back then i was in my pre teen. The moment the 'little girl(ghost)' popped out of my tube's screen i started channel surfing and dialed my friend's number just to make sure i am not alone stayin up late. [rekhum]

I think it was - Exorcist. [bhuvahsya]

Oh I've heard of that Alfred Hitchcock movie but I've never seen it. I think the first horror movie I ever saw was when I was sixteen. We went to the theatres to see Friday the 13th in 3D. I was so scared that I have never gone to see a horror flick since. Just not my type of movie. Would much rather a romantic comedy. [coolcatzz]

The Wizard of Oz. For some reason the scene with the trees throwing apples at Dorothy and the others scared me to death! I never liked werewolf movies, either, still can't watch them. Although I did get over my fear of apple trees! [jillbeth]

I'm a very devote Horror movie lover. Seems most my VHS & DVD's are horror type movies. I'd have to say the worst was when I was a teen or preteen. Mom took me to the drive-in to see a triple Horror presentation. My mom nor I scare easily either so that's kind of funny in a sense. The middle moviie was called "The Mark Of Death". I can't recall when it was made or any of the stars etc. The story line was the mark of death was the 666 etc dealing with Satan. There were many gory scenes in it that scared me terribly. It was soo bad they actually handed out barf bags as you paid driving in. Well I didn't need it but my mom had to get out of the car to use it. I can't believe to this day she toook me to this feature. I loved it. Thnaks for this discussion. Loved all the movies that were mentioned by others. [webeishere]

For me it was Night of the Living Dead. My mother sent me off to the movies for my reward day. I had to call home and let her know what movie was playing when I got there. The person in the booth told my mother that it was an okay movie. Yea, I had nightmares for 2 years! [ElusiveButterfly]
LOL... see now I laughed at that one because they moved like a mile per 100 hours. LOL Freddy Kruger... now HE frightens me! [hockeygal4ever]

Yes! Yes, there were a lot of movies that scared me when I was a kid. There are still a lot of movies that scare still. The one movie that affected me the most when I was about 8 was Nightmare on Elm Street. Seriously, Freddie Krueger is the sh*t. *shudders* [hopefoo]

There was 2 movies that scared me to death as a child. There was Cojoe (sp?) It was about a dog that got rabbies & was trying to kill people. Me, my sis & my mom lived with my mamaw. I had about 8 cousins that were around my age that was there everyday to play. We never wanted to come in when it got dark & when we had to, we would sneek out the bedroom window to get back out. so one day my mom & my aunt made us all watch that movie. They told us it was a true move that happened right down the road from us & that they never found the dog. we was all to scared to go out & play for a while after that. The other was Chucky, the possessed doll. When we wouldn't go to sleep my mom told us that he was under our bed & if we didn't go to sleep he would come out and kill us. we would just lay there to scared to go to sleep but to scared to move. I even put all of my dolls up in the attic & locked the door cause I was scared they'd come alive & try to get me. Its funny though, now I watch either of those movies & they're funny. But when I was little i was terrified of them. [dixielol]

YES!!! It was a movie called 'Play Misty for Me' starring Clint Eastwood. He played a DJ who was stalked by an obsessed woman. There was a bedroom scene where he awakens and she is above him with a butcher knife. I wish I had never seen that movie. To this day, I often think I see things in my room at night. I cannot stand it when I hear a tiny noise in my room at night! [crazynurse]

I've never seen that one, was it really scary or just extra scary considering you were a kid? A movie that really frightened me as a kid was "The Silence of the Lambs". I remember my dad was watching it one Sunday afternoon and I was peaking around the corner. I think more than anything I was scared of that guy in the jail cell (played by Anthony Hopkins), the way he talked was just freaky. There was also a point in the movie where he did this weird shivering/chattering sound that sent chills down my spine! [Jshean20]
I think it was a combination of being young and scary itself. It's now not so much "scary" as it is creepy. I to this day have a fear of birds! LOL Oh... all the Silence of the Lambs movies are amazingly haunting. And Hopkins is genius in them. [hockeygal4ever]
