I must admit. I'm not one of those people that finds him very handsome. And I was not impressed with his acting when he first came on the movie scene. I really enjoyed Gangs of New York though. I figured that it was just a fluke that I enjoyed him in this movie. But I recently watched Blood Diamond which he also starred in and once again was surprised by how much I actually enjoyed a DiCaprio movie. I'm not sure if his acting has improved or maybe my tastes have changed but I'll no longer avoid a movie just because he is a star in it.

I never was much impressed by Leonardo... The first time I saw him was in Titanic, and I still can't believe I was tricked into going to see that 4-hour long rubbish! I saw Gangs of New York as well, and again was far from impressed... The blood looks so fake that it's pathetic, and the whole story really didn't catch me on. However, his acting in Catch Me If You Can wasn't too bad, and the film really was quite good! So I don't exactly avoid him, but if I can... Orlando Bloom kind of reminds me of Leonardo actually... I think Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the best actor in movie today. I just love him. It is hard to believe he started from the show Growing Pains. [bkfuels]
Interesting, I have never been a big fan of his either, yet something I noticed about him so far is that everything I see him in, he is the character. For example there is nothing in the character from Titanic in his character What's Eating Gilbert Grape, or the Man in the Iron Mask or Catch Me if You Can. So I am not sure why I don't seem to be interested in him yet when I do finally end up watching a movie he is in, I don't see Leonardo DiCaprio I see the characher he portrays. This is a talent that I can admire, not all actors can pull off that kind of thing. Not all can stop being who they are and become someone different so well. So I guess like you I no longer avoid a movie he stars in, or put it off as last to watch or get. [nowment]
I really didn't care much for DiCaprio when he first burst onto the scene, but I think he's matured into a very good actor. Gangs of New York was a great performance, as was Blood Diamond. I think his biggest struggle has been shedding that picture of him in Titanic in everyone's mind, and I think with his recent strong showing in his films he's finally doing that. [alantae]
Too be honest after seeing Titanic I thought he was ok. Nothing that great but then I saw Man in the Iron Mask. He was fantastic in that movie. Playing the double role that he did and such opposite twins was not easy for him to do. I also loved him in Catch Me if You Can. Very good acting. I'd like to see Blood Diamond and see how it compares to those two. I admit that's about all I've seen him in are those three. So curious to see how his newest one is. I've been hearing a lot of good things so can't wait. [emeraldisle]
The worst thing that ever happened to DiCaprio was getting labeles as "heartthrob pretty boy" and having his poster in every teeny-bopper's bed room. He's one of the best actors I've seen in recent history; he's probably going to give Hoffman a run for his money. Every movie I've seen with him in it is good. My wife and I saw a preview for Blood Diamond and we want to see that. She grew up in South Africa, and her jaw was gaping at his accent. "It's not exact, but it's close. Damn close," she said. i dont really like Di Carpio in Titanic i love most his childhood movies. But I really appreciate his good acting at Catch me if you Can. I definitely not one of those who sees his handsome looks but his acting... officially he is one of the good actors with good looks in the showbiz business. [lossforredwords]
first of all i too thought that he is not as good as he was potraited after titanic but after i watched his other movies like "The man in iron mask" and "What's eating gilbert grape" i was truely influenced by his acting. He has good looks but man he can act also. watch the above 2 movies atleast , it will indeed change your mind. [pranaydharmale]
Im not really an avid fan of Leonardo de Caprio, but he's a good actor,I saw his movies and he's really good.and recently,he's BLOOD DIAMOND movie was fantastic.. [jean_gomez3]
I just love him. Watched titanic a number of times. I just love his acting and what to say, he is just too good. [ragirg]
his finest role to date was very early on in my opinion. Check out Whats eating Gilbert Grape. Anyone whho can out strip johnny Depp in a film must be doing something right. [steerpyke]
johnny depp strips?!!? NOW I've got a reason to see that what's eating Gilbert Grape.. LOL.. I haven't seen it yet but if Johnny Depp strips in it then I'm adding it to my must see list.. [imsilver]
I used to really like leonardo in Titanic and gangs of new york but i think now that he has put weight on he doesnt look as handsome and i dont feel he is very good at accents. [BettyBooAmy23]
He was good in Marvin's Room, with Diane Keaton. Titanic was unbearable. It was not he who chose to portray himself as a sex symbol, that was all media hype, and he came back with stronger roles to prove he could act and not just rely on his looks, which I give him credit for. I don't think of his looks one way or another, he's too young for me. [larainefan24]
This is from a guy's prospetive, I think the guy is very good looking and very talented and versatile, he is very popular with the girls and his looks has got him many good parts. His best films are Titanic and The Beach for me, where he excelled and played an excellent part. He is one of my all time favourite actors and I will see any film that he is in. He has got a lot of potential, and will always be a great name in the movies. He has done so much for the music industry and he has delighted thousands, millions of fans all over the world. [wolfie34]
I'm not judging a movie by the actors in it. I saw a lot of movies with a famous and good actors in it, and the movie was BAD! I think that it's up to the producer to make a good movie, and if the script is good, then it's not so hard to get a great movie. Even an avarage actor can be in a great movie. [ILANEDRI]
Well he clearly has talent when it comes to acting. although he doesn't really offer what he should be, he can put in a few good scenes and i have to say i personally think he's getting better. He doesn't seem arrogant as he used to and i think thats what makes is acting drop. I enjoyed watching catch me if you can. This was the first movie that i liked him in and i think he did well, maybe working along side tom hanks paid off for him. Kudos! ~Joey [joey_matthews]
I am not a big fan. But I did like him in a couple movies! Titanic, and the man in the Iron Mask! He is young he could get better! We might like him more in time! [LouiseK]
I have always been fond of him. he to me is handsome as well. I have not seen either of the movies you mentioned. But I still love him. [giftsandbagscom]
I agree with you, in one respect, that I had started to avoid many of his movies. But, not for the same reason as you. I always knew he was a good actor, it was just that when he was younger, his attitude really annoyed me. And, what I was referring to was, when Kate Winslet won an Academy for Titanic, and he did not, he went ballistic. However, since he had grown, mentally, I felt that he had overcome being an immature, and ungrateful person, and thus, I started to watch him again, and have done so, for many years. He is a superb actor and is of course, good-looking, but a bad personality can be a major turnoff. [western_valleygirl]
Yeah I wasn't a Leo fan either though after watching Departed and Blood Diamond, I found that he was a good actor. Before I think he was this little sugar coated actor but now I think he's getting much better roles and people are kinds taking him seriously...though his accent in Blood Diamond kinda bothers me a little...I dunno! [othala]
I confess that at first I discarded him as just a silly pretty face that made all the little girls go "ooohhhh" and nothing else. I blame Titanic for that, of course. =) But later watching some of his other movies - Basketball Diaries, or that one where he plays a mentally retarded boy, whose title I always forget - I learned to respect him immensely. He's a very good actor. [Fargale]
i loved him in basketball diaries...that's a really good movie, and something that steps away from the mainstream movies he's acted in. [pagli84]
i used to think he was really handsome, but now i just find him attractive. he's not really my type anymore. ive liked most of his movies that ive seen, but there's something about him that irks me sometimes. im not exactly sure what it is. in some films, he doesnt a really good job at acting, but in other films i dont find him as believable. i think it has something to do with his voice but im not really sure. [pagli84]
for my i find him one of the best actor yoday.because he have somthing bizare and i like him when he acte romence movie [soufianexas1]
Leonardo DiCaprio is my favorite actor, he performs so well in his film. You gotta see departed or blood diamond and i am telling you that see catch me if you can these movies are aw sum. He is sexy to and his acting is more sexier. [faraz007]
I agree with whoever said that being labeled a heartthrob really hurt him. Because I think he's always been a good actor. I'd say I liked Titanic least of his roles (probably because no one could live up to the hype). For the longest time I felt he was very underrated by critics and fans. But, I thought his performance in What's Eating Gilbert Grape was as close to perfect as you can get. I think I'm in the minority in truly loving him in The Man in the Iron Mask. Other great performances came in Catch Me If You Can and Marvin's Room. I wouldn't call The Aviator outstanding, but I do think he was very good. Aside from Titanic, the only film that his acting didn't impress me in was This Boy's Life. I'd say he isn't the best, but he is one of the best actors working now. And, my opinion doesn't have anything to do with his looks. I'm neither attracted or repulsed by them. [Angelwriter]
No he is not handsome, but he doesn't let that get in the way. He used to be skinny, but I remember watching him in Gangs of NY and he looked well built. He is not a bad actor at all, I like him more than Sean Pean, but sure they are of different era. Sean is older. [LittleMel]
actually, i really didn't like the guy when he first striked it big with titanic, but then i got kinda used to me and now i kinda like him and his cuteness [idreams]
There's something almost pitiful about ``Titanic,'' director James Cameron's $200 million epic. The facade gleams. The ship is magnificent. The disaster, which sent the ship to the bottom of the sea in 1912, is impressively re-created. . . . And there's nothing else there. Human values are either missing or clunkily handled. There's no sense of the power and presence of the tragedy that killed 1,500 people. The first sight of the Titanic, docked in England, is breathtaking. The real Titanic was 885 feet long. For the film, a 775-foot replica was built. It's imposing and awe-inspiring to watch the passengers board the ship, history come back to life. Shots of the meticulously re-created interiors -- the ornate first-class lodgings, the sepia and brass-colored engine room, the ballroom with its winding staircase -- take the viewer back to 1912. But when people start talking, we've returned to a clumsy 1997 action movie. Cameron, who wrote the script, aims to convey the tragedy of the Titanic through a tale of young love, which was probably a dubious strategy. And when the happy-go- lucky Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) meets Rose (Kate Winslet), he uses his charm to talk her out of throwing herself overboard (she's engaged to a nasty rich guy). It smells of a screenwriter's contrivance. Things never get better. Jack teaches her how to spit in the wind. She looks at his portfolio of pencil drawings and pronounces him a fabulous artist. The movie gives us almost two hours of this mismatched pair before mercifully introducing the iceberg. All the action involving the ship's slowly sinking is surefire. At every chance, Cameron cuts and intercuts and cranks up the soundtrack. It's all a lot of fun, and yet the film never delivers the vicarious thrill of making us feel what it might have been like to have been on that ship. The scenes are great to look at, though. As the Titanic tilts into the water at a steeper angle, people rush to the top of the ship. Some stumble and slide all the way down the long deck. The last hour of ``Titanic'' is huge and staggering, but there's no horror in it. No gravity, either. Entrusted with one of the century's monumental stories, Cameron can present it only as a crying shame. And that's a crying shame. [theKop]
I'm not a fan of DiCaprio either. But i did watch The Man in the Iron Mask and his performance was quite good. Or maybe it's because he was in the company of John Malkovich, Jeremy Irons, Gerard Dipardieu and Gabriel Byrne; and their excellence rubbed off on him. [lvap0628]
