Vampire Movies

I see that Twilight is out on DVD. And HBO has a show called True Blood (I've not seen it) which is apparently based on a series of books. I can recall a film or two about vampires. For instance, Interview with the Vampire and of course Dracula. I have not seen those either. Are there different "kinds" of vampire movies? I mean, movies with different tones? What are your favorite vampire movies? And what is it about those movies that you like? I saw the TV show Angel, and that's about it.

Hi Ambie! Yes, there are certainly a lot of different telling about vampires on film as well as on TV. I really like watching vampire movies of any kind, but my favorite series was one on TV. Buffy the Vampire Slayer was the greatest show ever, and I still really miss it! Angel is acctually a spin off of that show, and it was almost as good. Some vampire movies like Twilight show that Vampires can be nice people too, which is a big trend today. I did really enjoy the movie. It was a great little love story, but with some good old faskioned vampire drama included! If you havn't seen it yet, you really should! There are certaily a lot of movies out there that are darker than Twilight, though, so don't think that every vampire is a nice person, they usually are blood-sucking killers, and I like it that way, too! Have a great day! [ljbinkop]
I rented Twilight the other night through Netflix. I enjoyed it. [AmbiePam]

Vampire movies are very different. I loved "Lost Boys" when I was younger. Its about a high school kid getting inducted to a gang of monstrous vampires. It has a few really great scary scenes, but mostly its just fun. Twilight is not a scary movie at all. The vampires glitter in the sunlight and you hear the sound of ringing bells. They are happy lovey vampires... and not much fun. The books were okay though. Dracula seemed a little bit over sexed to me. Van Helsing was a fun action type of vampire movie... not really scary either. Hmm perhaps vampire movies arent supposed to be scary, as I make my list I'm not seeing much that would frighten you. Although lost boys did when I was a child. [glords]
Yeah, I think parents can feel okay about their kids watching Twilight. Which is good. I mean what teen or you adult movie now days doesn't have the main characters in bed after hour one? [AmbiePam]

I don't know for sure...but I believe there must be. Think of vampire movies of the 60's and then think of them today. Horror movies today are morbid. I could lose weight just watching those films...and I was a big Dark Shadows fan. [Yestheypayme2dothis]

I think there is no a vampire show called True Blood, at least not one that I have heard of anyway. I think that INterview with a Vampire is the only one that I can think of. I havent really seen a lot of vampire movies recently. There are only a few I can think of that have made a difference. I wihs that I could see many more. [snowy22315]

I haven't seen any for years! Probably count dracula was the last one I actually watched. I haven't read the books either...the series that Twilight is based on but my daughters have...they seem to like them! [jillhill]

I don't watch to many vampire movies but I did like "Blade" I thought it was a cool twist to the typical vampire movie. Also I saw "30 Days of Night" Now thats a thought why wouldn't vampires hang out where its night for at least a month. There was another but I can't remember the exact name. it stared Willem Dafoe and was about people making a vampire movie not realizing the lead was a real Vampire. [carann]
I had forgotten about Blade. I enjoyed that one. I heard 30 Days of Night was really gory. Like roll the stomach gory? [AmbiePam]

My absolute favorite vampire movie is "Dracula" starring Frank Langella, Sir Lawrence Olivier and Kate Nelligan. IMO there is not and probably will never be a better movie about vampires. It was creepy, scary, sexy and not blood and gore every where but enough ghouls to be satisfy anyone. This was real classy film. I have a CD and a VHS tape of this film. [whiteheather39]
Great, thanks! [AmbiePam]

I don't really have a favorite vampire movie, I did like Interview with the Vampire, only because it had Brad Pitt and Keanu Reeves on it..lol. I don't watch them much, my husband loves them, he's always watching those kinds of movies, I told him they give me nightmares...haha. [walijo2008]

Hi AmbiePam I am looking forward to seeing Twighlight, probably when my daughter buys it. One of my favourites you mentioned is Interview with the vampire, an excellent movie, I was particularly drawn to this one because of vampires fighting thier own creed, as is Blade II, although Blade was a daywalker. Another is Near dark, which was a bit of a dark comedy. Loads of blood sucking epics to mention, but The Lost Boys has to have one, simply because I like Kiefer Sutherland. Alice :) [Aliceinwebland]
Agreed, The Lost Boys [thezone]

I would say my favourite Vampire movies would be any of the Hammer Horror productions with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. I always loved the settings and the atmosphere in them and I think Christopher Lee was an excellent Count Dracula. I did love Interview with the Vampire, I think they did a decent job translating it from the book to the screen and I would recommend that you get to see it. Always from the eighties was The Lost Boys, that is a very fun movie and very funny in parts. Quentin Tarantinos, From Dusk till Dawn is also worth a watch if just for the great cameo roles by so many cult horror icons. [thezone]

I loved the TV show called "Moonlight" It was about a vampire man who was a private investigator who happened to be a vampire and used his special gifts to help solve crimes. Of course, he fell in love with a reporter and would do anything for her. He didn't bite people, but got his blood from the morgue blood bank. "Interview with the Vampire" was pretty good too. A nice interpretation of the book by Anne Rice. And who doesn't love Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt and Christian Slater? My husband likes all kind of old movies. One from 1974 was called "Dead of Night". It is about a guy who comes back from the Vietnam war a zombie. Then of course there is "The Lost Boys" with Kiefer Sutherland and the Coreys,(Haim and Feldman). This was one of my most favorite movies in the late 80's. "Shadow of the Vampire" from 2000 was about a movie about a vampire where the lead is played by a vampire. "Van Helsing" with Hugh Jackman is also very good. [Trace86]
I think CBS is VERY sorry they canceled Moonlight. With the vampire craze now, it looked like they shouldn't have canceled it. And it is also on the best selling list of DVDs. [AmbiePam]

I've read some of the books that Trublood is based on, I think they might've made them a bit darker for the tv [ElicBxn]

Hey ambie! I have seen Dracula which I believe is still the best vampire movie of all time! And I did see Interview With a Vampire which was very good too! It was damp creepy if you ask me! I want to see Twilight too! I love vampire movies! I have always had a thing for vampire flicks! I love vampires! I kind of want to be one too, except for the blood drinking thing! I like to sleep in the daytime and be up at night so I already have one thing down pat! [Opal26]
Maybe you can drink Kool Aid and pass it off for blood. wink [AmbiePam]

I have not seen too many Vampire movies in my time, but they do vary. There are the less scary ones like "Once Bitten" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and then there are ones like "Dracula". The more scary monster ones. [lilybug]

hi AmbiePam! I don't know if you've watched any of these vampire movies but here are my recommendations and I hope you don't get too scared watching them. ;) I like the comedy genre vampire movies such as LOVE AT FIRST BITE with George Hamilton and FRIGHT NIGHT starring William Ragsdale and Chris Sarandon where the vampires were evil and funny at the same time. Good, Hilarious stuff. Also, if your looking for a different kind of twist to a vampire movie, try watching the Western vampire movie NEAR DARK. happymylotting [dasani]

Interview with a Vampire is my all time vampire movie... and i was actually waiting for a sequel movie... but that never happened... instead they made a somewhat B movie about Lestat... and that did not even live up to the greatness of Interview with a Vampire... i wanted to read the books... but i am afraid i might get nightmares... [aseretdd]
read the books ... If you liked Lestat the read 'The Vampire Lestat' it'll blow you away .. the films that were made after Interview where just appalling. All of Anne Rice's Vampire books are brilliant I'd highly recomend 'Memnoch the Devil' [jimbomuso]

I used to love vampire movies but I have not seen them in years, I kinda got out of the habit of watching them. [winterose]

as of today, i like twilight the way the love story was tackle. But i like more whats on the book than the movie version though. [annalapse]

I was able to watched this "Moonlight" and it is a vampire story too, a tv series actually. The full article about it can be find in the Wikipedia. It is some kind related to Twilight not only with the title but the story as well. I am still a fan, super doper fan of Twilight. I've seen the ads of True Blood too, I would love to get a dvd copy of it. Overall, I am a follower of vampire story. Thank you and have a good day! [eselmaro]
I love your avatar. [AmbiePam]

Hi friends, I will vampires movies in my computer, home theatre,TV,i like some of vampire movies good to watch some movies. some of movies which i like Vanhelsing Dracula Blade 1,2 I have seen different vampires in different movies. have a great day. [23uday]
I didn't like the ending of Blade II. Blade III was really campy. The first Blade had to be the best, don't you think? Of course it is hard to find any sequels as good as the originals. [AmbiePam]

I've both watched Twilight and True Blood. Twilight is more of a love story than a vampire movie. And True Blood I think is the opposite. But that's just me, not really a fan of other vampire movies. [austenfan]

Yeah, vampire movies are very common this days.. From "Queen of the Damn", The "Blade Series", UnderWorld.. all are great. Maybe, its because of the stories and the actions, the love scenes..^_^. The latest vampire love movie which is "TWILIGHT" is great..I will be sure to watch again the second release.. [pals101]

Vampire movies have lost their "scare" touch. They used to be very scary in the beginning when the vampire phenomena was new. However, there are still some that scare you. My all time favorite vampire movies are the "Blade" series. I also like the ones with a little of romance element. [ProlificDude]

i love vampire movies...i have seen interview with the vampire, urban legends, and almost all the brom stoker's dracula movie adaptations and of course twilight....i really like to watch this type of movie..it's very entertaining simply because for me it's surreal....it's not normal... [tabachi]
Escapism is a lot of fun. [AmbiePam]

I just bought Twilight last weekend for my daughter and I to watch...it was pretty damn good...More of a vamp romance than anything....True Blood is based on the Charlaine Harris books which I hve but havent read yet..the show is FABULOUS..the kids and I watched it faithfully LOL...Interview I've seen and read the book series but its certainly not my fav...then there was also Queen of the Damned which is another of the Interview series....then there are the Blade flicks...three in all...they're pretty good..and of course Angel and Buffy (both t.v shows)..Of course there are the NUMEROUS classic vamp flicks staring ppl like Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi..omg I could go on and on come to think of it LOL I guess if I had to pick some favs it would be the Angel series and True Blood with the Blade flicks coming in third... [Ravenladyj]
I get the feeling I can trust your judgment on the matter. I've read your posts before and you know your stuff. Whatever the stuff happens to be. lol I did love Blade. And I thought Blade III was good. It may have been because Ryan Reynolds cracked me up. [AmbiePam]

From Dusk Til Dawn,Modern Vampires are a couple of gory vampire movies ( Modern vampires is a bit of a dark comedy also) I also love The Hunger & Salem's Lot ( a classic)and the Underworld movies. Shadow of the Vampire is a pretty good film also . I also love the classic black & white vampire film Nosferatu. Oh boy, There are ton's of good vampire movies around.True blood is definitely worth checking out, I have all of the books the HBO series was based on and so far I'm on second book and I can't wait for the the second season of True Blood this summer . [cassandralynn]

My favorites are the "Underworld" sequels. Maybe it's because I'm a fan of Kate Beckinsale but also because of the story. [HiLia2008]

Me and my husband watch the TV series True Blood. I like it it was different but good. I want to see twilight I have not seen it yet. I was really never a fan of Vampire movies till Twilight and True Blood that I saw made me interested. [emilie2300]

I can't really say I have favorites. I do enjoy vampire movies though. I have been wanting to see twilight. I haven't got to it though. Im putting it off for right now. Also someone told me that twilight wasn't any good. I guess i will have to see for myself. [jessi0887]

I watched a bit of Buffy and Angel. Maybe I did watch Interview with the Vampire but I could be wrong. I like Queen of the Damned. It has quite different line of story, and the actor in it looks like the same person in another vampire movie [LittleMel]

Hi, AmbiePam! Yes, I see that Twilight has a movie out on DVD. I like Angel too. I also like Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Moonlight. My favorite dracula movie is the one with Lucy Lui on it. I loved this movie! I can't really remember the name of it, but I know it when I will see it.happy [cream97]

Hi AmbiePam! yeah there are quite o lot of sub-genres, like the vampire love angle, comedic vamipire hunters, the totured exsisents biopic style and good old fashioned explosive violence/taste the brain matter gore! some good ones are 'Near Dark' staring Lance Henrikkson, Bill Paxton-really good 'old' taut thriller. The Fearless Vampire Killers- its a comedy by Roman Polanski. Lesbian Vampire Killers- new brit film in the hapless would be victims become comedy vampire killers.'Salems Lot' brilliant classic. 'Nightwatch' and 'Daywatch' not really a specific vampire film but absolutely two of the best fantasy horror films ever made and its Russian. I cannot recommend it more highly. what I love about fantasy horror is that it tries to explore all the humananity or lack of it in a world of mythical creatures. [jimbomuso]
Hi again AmbiePam! Thank you for the BR.Hope you got a chance to check some of them out. your post actually encouraged me to watch Twilight - it's not to bad with some great scenes - cool. I prefer a bit more grit and gore like '30 days of night' but I'm still a sucker for a good yarn! [jimbomuso]

Hollywood ruined vampires. Vampires are suppose to be monsters and not some heartthrob for teenage girls to scream over. I hope this trend ends soon so we can see some real vampire movies. [BlueGoblin]

I just said the other day that I wanted to watch interview with a vampire since I haven't seen it in years. I read the whole Twilight series very good books they are hard to put down. The movie is ok but the book is so much better. The movie does make me want to read the book again. Its more of a love story then anything and at some points in the book it makes you want to become a vampire yourself. The vampires in Twilight fest on animals instead of humans so they can stay in one place. I only catch some shows of Angel which of course are reruns. I never watched it but one day I will have to record it so I can know whats going on. It does look like a good show. [mflower2053]
Just a warning about Angel. I HATED season four. I don't think you'd like it either. I heard a lot of people talk about how parts of the book weren't in the movie Twilight. I understand when a person feels loyal to a book and wants the movie to mimic it. I think maybe they (the studio who made it) were afraid of turning people off by the running time of the movie. I rented it from Netflix and it was 2 hours and two minutes. The thing it, time went by so fast, I think they could have safely made it two hours and 30 minutes and no one would have minded. [AmbiePam]

Vampire movies has a totally different concept than normal movies. Sometimes even confusion about who is doing +ve role and who is doing -ve role. My favorite movie is "Interview of the Vampire" Movie is good and it has good flow. [rakesh284]

Those are all different. You are right. I guess it depends what kind of story you want to tell. One of my favorites is "Interview",Anne Rice is one of my favorite authors. Bela Lugosi did a fair job as Dracula. [ersmommy1]

Oh my goodness, True Blood is awesome! w00t A friend mentioned it to me a few months ago and told me how good it was, but I was a bit dubious because I'm really not into those kind of series, to be honest. I gave it a go though and ended up watching the whole thing in one day-and-night lol It really is very good, you should watch it I prefer vampire movies like Interview With The Vampire rather than more modern and Americanised ones. [LilyLoretta]
Nah not really - the only bit I couldn't watch is a very graphic scene where someone gets beat up by two other people (I won't give it away by telling you who! lol) Apart from that though, I think it's ok [LilyLoretta]

yeah the movie twilight is out on video an i havent seen it yet either but i have read the book and the book was very good iam looking forward to seing the movie. [frygirl]

Some of them I do like, but I don't why! I guess it's the supernatural theme.. I like 'good' vampires better than the evil ones! If that's not an oxymoron!lol [flowerchilde]

I love vampire movies, and I've seen so many of them, though I still haven't seen Twilight or True Blood, and I'll probably wait until I can rent it. There are many different kinds too, and I have some favorites. One really different one is called "A Polish Vampire in Burbank". It's actually a comedy about a young vampire named Dupa who's parents have to bring him some blood every day because he's too shy to go get his own. Another one is Grave of the Vampire, an unusual story about a half human vampire who spends his adult life trying to hunt down his father. Then there's a John Carpenter movie with John Carradine in it, and I've seen it several times, but always so late at night, and I really liked the movie, but I can't remember the name, or what happens in it, but I like almost anything with John Carradine in it. [KarenO52]

Yes, they have romantic and comedic ones. And horror ones, and action ones. I like the old buffy and Angel tv shows. I also enjoy the Blade movies. [danrunsfast614]

fave. one:the little vampire, interview with vampire and angel TV series.. the storyline of course that attract me to watch these movie, not the hot actor..seriously,i can't understand why people so obsess with tom cruise,Brad Pitt or Robert Patinson..yeah,they hot but that's it.. [fasyahime]
I never got what was so hot about Brad Pitt. [AmbiePam]

good I like those kind of terror Dracula. [Mentmagic]

And the answer is... Yes. There are many types of 'Vampire' movies. Some are plotted around the survivial of the 'cast'(like 'Interview', some are plotted around a stupid love story (like 'Twilight). The problem is no one has any creative imagination. All of these movies, including ones I did not mention (about 'Vampires', are dumb. It's almost like there is no imagination left, writers are depending on thousand year old stories to entertain the masses, instead of coming up with something new. The same is true with 'Ware-wolf' movies. Okay sometimes they imagine... ...with different rules or scientific laws the vampires are bound to. The 'rules' have already been set, why change them? For instance, in 'Twilight' the vampires can walk in the day, just not in direct sunlight or their skin will glissen a golden color, how fairy is that? Vampires are supposed to be tough, aren't they? [MagicGuy]

I love all types of Vampire movies. I don't know why I like them so much. The Blade series is one of my favorites. I LOVE Twilight. I own the Angel series on VHS. I have not seen True Blood yet. I also really enjoyed Interview with a Vampire. I never got into the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer though. [camomom]
That was the only thing I didn't like about it too. [camomom]

Hey there! I have also seen Angel. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is also good. Interview with the Vampire is also good. It stars Brad Pitt and other notable stars. I can't remember them all for the movie has been shown long ago in the nineties'. The lastest Vampire movie that I've seen is Twilight. It was good, it was okay. One of my favorite Vapire movie is "Blade", "Blade II", and "Blade Trinity". It stars Wesley Snipes. I like that movie. It has a lot of action. Have a nice day. Happy posting!! [AltheGreat2430]
I didn't like Blade II, although it was the ending that I didn't like. The rest of it was good. But I enjoyed the first one and the last one very much. Although I thought what Dracula turned into was kind of cheesy at the end. [AmbiePam]

Hi AmbiePam, There are so many vampire films, but I will try to name three of my favourites. My first choice is the first Hammer Studios version of Dracula made in the 1950s with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. These were serious actors (e.g. Cushing was an ex-Shakespearian actor) who created a whole new gendre with the Hammer people. The movies were not cheaply made and they brought a darkness and sensuality to the story which made you use your imagination a lot more than the modern shock-horror films. My second choice is the more recently made True Story of Dracula, which is based on the true story of the Romanian Prince - Vlad the Impaler. It is very well made and is by far the most original of all the modern films. My third and final choice is Polanski's film "Dance of The Vampires", which is the best satire ever made on the Dracula story, including the beautiful Sharon Tate as the Count's victim, the brilliant Irish comedy actor Jack McGowran as the bungling Professor, Polanski himself as the Prof's assistant and the inspired casting of Alfie Bass as the Jewish vampire, who is immune to crosses... Have a great weekend. Umart [umart13]
Hi, Yep! "Pardon me! but Your teeth are in my Neck is also the same film". Polanski was playing with all three names. It's well worth seeing. Even as satire it's very well made and the music is worthy of any real horror film. [umart13]

There's this one I liked on TV.. I forget the name of it, but he is a vampire cop. He wants so much to be human again, and he hates that he has to feed. Once I saw this girl who was in love with him let him feed on her.. he was afraid he would kill her, but he didn't. [OreoCookie3]

The HBO show True Blood is based on Charlaine Harris' books, the Sookie Stackhouse series. They are awesome reads, hopefully you get a chance to read the first one because they're great! [rowantree]

Two of my favorites are Interfiew With A Vampire and Love At First Bite. The first is a bio of how he became a vampire. I call it a thinking man's horror film. there isn't that much gore. I guess that's why I like it. It is the only horror film I have seen more than twice. Oops, I am wrong, I saw The Hunger more than twice too. The Hunger was a vampire/erotic film. Not for viewers younger than 15.Anyway. Love At First Bite is a comedy.Dracula visits new York in the 70's.No gore , no bllod, but it is funny. [sarahruthbeth22]

I love the HBO series True Blood. It is more than just killings it tells how we can live alongside vampires and that there are good ones as well as bad ones. [TrvlArrngr]
Yes, the creator of the series has said he means it to be a metaphor for how people treat homosexuals. I don't know if that is how the author of the books felt, but apparently that is what the creator of the show wants to get across. [AmbiePam]

I have not seen Twilight yet. I know I should have seen it by now but I haven't yet. I do watch True Blood though. I have never missed an episode of it. It is a great show and I would say it is one of my favorite shows. There are vampires and shape shifters on that show. It is really good, always keeps you on your toes. Have a great day and happy myLotting!!! [schulzie]
Twilight was written by a Mormom woman, so the movie is tame, but stll sweet. [AmbiePam]
