What Ruins A Good Movie For You

For me it is video quality if I decide to watch online and little children making a lot of noise when I'm trying to watch a new movie. There was also a special incident when a good movie was ruined because I was too young when watching it. The movie was Kill Bill and I was about 12 when I watched it. It was too bloody and sad for me then but when I was it now, I see past that to really enjoy the storyline? What ruins a good movie for you?

responses and comments:

When someone that I am seeing a movie with, gives away the ending. Then I think to myself: "I spent good money to see this, and some knucklhead want to give me a play by play" In that case, I would rather go by myself next time :) [geminikid]
Yes, that's a great way to ruin a good movie. I don't know why people do this. My friends does it as well. She would keep trying to tell me the ending when I'm enjoying the movie. I would keep telling her I don't want to know but she wouldn't stop talking. >.< friends..... thanks for your response [animegirl334]

What ruins a good movie for me whould be it just being really boring. Like nothing happening. I got to admite that their are a lot of horror movies that fit into this line, too. I'm talking about the story line just dragging on or a lot of useless dialoge. Get on with the story! But back to what you was talking about... A movie was ruined for you because you were too young!? Nowwa days for me, it's the opposite. Movies are ruined because I'm too old! I'll look back to the movies I loved as a kid an just be disappointed with what I see. [oldmanhorrorfan]
i agree with the opinion above. As for me, movies always are ruined by too much special effect made by computer technology. The movie made without the process of computer will be more acceptable to audience. And it seems to me more likely to link the pure films with the origin of life which is most beautiful in the world. [freeflow1988]

For me its the video quality.I just hate cam prints.I don't watch a movie till i get a dvd like picture quality. And the second thing is subtitles.I am not ashamed to admit that i don't properly understand the american accent. So i find it hard to understand the dialogues until i get a proper english subtitle. But i really hope that i can get over this problem soon. [suparnodatta]
I'm born in America but it is also hard for me to understand it when actors and actresses talk too. I would get subtitles but then I'll just end up staring at the subtitles the whole time. Sometimes I just live with not understanding what they are saying. Thanks for responding [animegirl334]

The same points you said. Also if someone is on their cell phone (yea, one time this guy didn't turn it off), and if there's people talking. [chipper3]
Yes, it's so hard to enjoy a movie when there is noise. Our theaters play this funny commercial telling people not to add their own soundtrack to the movie so most times people silence their phones but it happens every once in awhile and really ruins the movie. Thanks for your response [animegirl334]

well there are several things for example... Transformers 2....the script to much westernization the dialog is....painful to listen and the jokes and gags are really a let down. My sisters keeper...also the script the changed ending and the focus on only one character The Godfather 3....the actors Sofia Coppola and Garcia a match from hell Basicly you have 3 things that can go wrong the effect the script or the actors... [Daraiki]
Little flaws in the script really could ruin a really good movie. Thanks for responding. [animegirl334]

The darned phone ringing. Every time i sit down to watch a DVD and it just starts to get really interesting the darned phone rings. Seems to happen everytime. [oztoo3]
Yes, the phone never fails. If it's a telemarketer, I say a quick no thank you and hang up but if it's friends or relatives, they could be on the phone for awhile. Thankgod for the pause feature but it still ruins the movie. Thanks for responding [animegirl334]

One of the things that really ruin a movie for me is if someone who wasn't watching comes and asks what has happened so far. The problem is that they always seem to steak at the worst moment when something really important is being said. That or they come close to the end so you basically have to tell them the whole movie. [cloudi]
lol Seems like all movie disasters are man caused, Maybe it is best we only watch new movies by ourselves. Thanks for your response [animegirl334]

For me if half way of the movie, we can "guess" the ending it started good and turn into just another movie. Specially when you did go to movie theater, pay for it and came out with unsatisfied feeling. [ibuemma]
The ending is also really important. But for me, I'm a simple girl whose satisfied as long as it is a happy ending. Sucks though when the movie isn't good and we have to pay to go to the theaters. Thanks for you respond [animegirl334]

two things can actually ruin a good movie, trying to make the actor looks as if he or she is the holy one with no bad intentions and deviating from the main message of the movie are the two things that can make me lose interest in such a movie, i like a movie that goes straight from the beginning to the end without deviations [tundeemma]
Ah, the main characters just doesn't seem human when they have no faults. People are giving great advice as to why a perfectly good movie can be ruined. Maybe we should compose a letter to the directors. happy Thanks for your response [animegirl334]

it ruins the movie when someone tells what goes on in the movie. It sucks when someone is sitting there talking on the phone or cell phone its so rude.People who get up and turn the channel when ur in the middle of a show. [jimssaftytips]
Spoilers are no fun. I do know how hard it is to be quiet while watching a movie I've already seen but I must not speak! lol Thanks for responding [animegirl334]

a movie gets ruins when a person is trying to tell the story before i get myself to watch. we all have different ways to see and to understand. we also have different views and perception. well i hear stories about a film i wanted to watch i don't like to watch it anymore or i lose the interest to watch it. so i dont read any reviews and i dont look at the news on the net i just read it or look at it after i watched the movie to compare notes. [se7enthbird]
It is better if we watch the movie first without being influenced by how others thought of the movie. Sometimes if it is a movie I enjoy, I read the reviews afterward to see how others liked it but I wouldn't read it before I've seen the movie. Thanks for responding [animegirl334]

I would have to agree, people making noise, talking, standing up in the view of the screen. When I do go to a movie theater, if it's full of people I'm always worried there will be alot of noise or talking. I don't mind laughing if it's a comedy, or people reacting to a horror, but talking loud, on a cell phone stuff like that really is rude. As for watching a movie on a DVD, I can't stand if it skips, and pauses and searches all these things because the lens is dirty or there's a scratch. Also if I'm watching with friends and I'm really into the movie and they ask you to stop it or pause it, while the do something, so they don't miss it. It kind of ruins the movie for me, haveing to stop it and wait. [letsee77]
Yes, if it's a comedy I wouldn't mind people laughing because I would be laughing as well. Thanks for your response [animegirl334]

Nothing gets me more than a person that wants to watch a movie with me then talk the entire time through it. It's like what are we here for? To watch it or talk? When I watch a movie, I want to watch the movie. Pretty simple right? NOT, I have my oldest boy, 16, that I spend time with him but I'm saying - you want to watch a movie with me then lets watch the movie and talk later. [kprofgames]
I also dislike it when my friends talk to me during the movie. I couldn't tell her to be quiet and she wouldn't stop talking even when the movie starts. Sometimes it is better to watch by yourself. Thanks for your response [animegirl334]

Hello, mostly I love to spend my time watching good movie alone. If it ruin then too much noise or the qualities of the movie [smileonstar]
Most time people have troubles with the movie, it would seem that someone else is causing it; a cellphone ringing, people giving away the ending, etc. I also prefer the company of myself when watching movies. Thank you for responding [animegirl334]

I hate when someone has already seen a movie that you haven't, and then they are like OMG you have to see it, it was so good, so they sit down to watch it with you knowing full well you haven't seen it yet, and then they sit there and say all the lines of the movie. Shut up - I haven't seen it yet! LMAO [Nikigirl613]
lol Sometimes people just get too excited about the movie and wants others to like it as much as they do. They should also realize that those who haven't seen it needs to watch the movie themselves before they can also like it. Thanks for your response. Your example was funny [animegirl334]

If I go to the cinema, I really annoyed if someone keeps putting his foot at the back of my seat. It makes me feel comfortable sitting on it and ruining the 'watching mood' for me. Also, if suddenly the movie stops or if the audio system in the cinema went bad and made our ear hurts. [sophisticated_boy]
Sound effects can definitely ruin a movie. I've watched a movie where it was so loud that it was impossible to enjoy. Thanks for responding [animegirl334]

There are a few things that tend to ruin the good movies in our house when we sit down to watch them lol. A lot of the times it is our children, normally one of them is upset because they are tired or hungry and start getting whiney or crying, and we have to start, then stop, then start, and so forth with the movie, and we end up not wanting to watch it anymore; this happened tonight actually lol, we never watched it! Also, another thing is my husband's parents, I SWEAR they have to be constantly talking throughout the entire movie, asking questions, predicting parts, trying to scare us at the scary parts, etc. Grrr! [hmfryklund]
Oh, my mother does that all the time when watching a movie. She couldn't stop talking about the movie when I just want to watch it. I try to shush her politely but she'll start up again when something happens in the movie. GRRRrrrrr [animegirl334]

Yeah, we are the same..Noises simply ruins the movie...But in the case of the story, I think the ending would definitely ruin it.... [joannaleed]
Yeah...no problem.... [joannaleed]

Your opinion is very unique, and now the film is now in decline, from a good movie, not now reduced to the inflow,as long as the temporary shortage because most of the actors, the film review system stuck old movies were the creation of routes. Then there because of the development trend of international film gradually biased in favor of special effects. No previous movies simple. Is not touched by anyone. [wangjihong350]
There are a lot of legendary films from the past and the current films just can't compare now can they? There are some recent movies out there that are pretty good though we could still find flaws. Thanks for your response [animegirl334]

When someone spoils the movie for you by telling you everything. [LairOfMetal]
That's a great way to ruin a movie for someone. My little cousin does it even though I keep telling her I don't want to know. Thanks for your response [animegirl334]

for me it is a group of morons in the first row who think it is funny to make comments and shout out vulgarities in the most sensitive of scenes.or a group of friends who dont like the movie because they thouught it was going to entertaining but the movie is intelligent and thought provoking and they dont want to stress themselves and enjoy thr flavor of the movie and rather than dat they resort to cat calls and shoutin how bad the movie is... i cant believe dat some people find fight club a bore [diwakarraghavan]
well i am from india and i guess most theatres here are like that except for multiplexes which have come up recently [diwakarraghavan]

glareNOises, people kissing at the back.. and some are even spoiling us with the next scene of the story..i hate those kind of people, and possibly, strangers who follow you aroundangry [LetranKnight25]
glareI knew he was up to something following me around. i ran back to the seats and never looked back. i never went back to theaters ever again. but if i do i make sure i had a knife to defend with [LetranKnight25]

If the movie is too engrossing, I wouldnt even realize that children beside me were making so much a noise! But there are movies that I was disappointed because of the content in it. Offhand, I can recall "First blood". Stallone is shown to be such a genius in it. I know the director wanted to depict him as a child in the hands of his superior in the climax. But the dialogues and direction did not do justice. In fact, I think that was the worst part of that movie! May be my expectations were raised by the rest of the film. :-) [vandana7]
This is an important point that hasn't been bought up yet. Sometimes it's not the storyline or even the actor but sometimes the characters themselves can be disappointing, like their dialogue and actions. Thanks for your response [animegirl334]

As you know watching in cinema is not cheap now anywhere. So if I go to cinema I must be very interested the film, also the film must be good in my standard. I hate when I watch movie someone else talking and analysing the plot of the film. I think it ruins the good film. I don't like film that speaks local dialect. I feel it's difficult for me to understand. So no matter how good the story is, the dialect will ruin it. [sblossom]
A lot of users are saying their theaters are noisy. I guess I must be lucky because no one talks in my local theaters. Sure, my little cousins disturb me when I try watching a movie at home but usually it is quiet at the theater. Maybe there should be a "Please Do Not Talk" sign in theaters. [animegirl334]

A good movie would be ruined for me if someone gave away the whole storyline and ending of the movie. So I enjoy watching the movie alone without anyone around talking about it. I don't mind violence in a movie as long as its not too graphic and gory. [nijolechu]
Spoilers are awful. Maybe someone does like knowing the story ahead of time(I honestly know no one like that) but most people want to watch the movie themselves. I also know it is hard to be quiet when I already watched the movie but that doesn't mean I have the right to ruin it for someone else [animegirl334]

hi anime good movie for me has two categories : intellectual & romance comedy If intellectual movies, i need full concentration in order to understand the plot of the movie.. as you said even a slight interruption will spoil the movie For romance comedy - i can only watch when my husband is not around as he is the first one to spoil the movie for me ... cheers [sanjana_aslam]
ha ha ha you mother is really correct in her comments but dear, cant we visit dream land once in a while and be happy ?? i want that ... cheers [sanjana_aslam]

I get very tired and what ruins a good movie for me is when I wake up to the closing music and credits! angry [aslanlight]
Yes when it's a good one it's infuriating! [aslanlight]

Everything that might ruin the experience for me, has been taken care of - I watch most movies at home in my room, which i have designed to fit my movie watching needs and is now a sort-of home theater. But I guess people talking nearby - computer deciding to start backing up during my movie session ( ending up with 2-3 fps) or other minor details. But they have been all dealt with to provide myself with the best movie experience. [Sleepingcap]
Haha, yes but then where would we get food to eat? ^.^ Ha, just joking. It's annoying to be disturbed during a movie but she just wants me to eat before my food gets cold. Annoying but still happy she cares for me [animegirl334]

i saw this today on HBO and it was a fun rental ype movie. i got bored on a few scenes but it still held me. i bet that girl wish she didn't listen to her boyfriend and stayed at that hotel. what really discusted me was when she threw up and he still kissed her! shoot i'll be like i love you and all, but before you kiss me you better brush you teeth and rinse with listerine. don't get me atarted on that trail. they had a frickin map of the damn location for the killer plants! i mean come on! [nicasio21hilariojr]
Some disturbing scenes can ruin a good movie. I thought Drag me to Hell had a pretty good story and nice jump out of the chair moments but then there was one scene where a corpse threw up in the main character's mouth and I just wanted to scramble out of the theater >.< [animegirl334]

What ruins a good movie is when I have to leave the moviehouse for what reason or I have to go to the bathroom specially during the climax scenes. ewww.. [seekers]
So frustrating to have to leave the theater and miss a good scene when we need to use the restroom. I usually try to hold it but then I wouldn't be able to concentrate on the movie either. Thanks for your response [animegirl334]

Tall people who sit down in front of me, people who talk through the whole movie or people texting ruin movies for me. It's a major irritations to pay rediculous ticket prices and then have all those distractions. Living in a college town, I usually avoid new releases because of those reasons. I enjoy going to a movie that's been out for a while, and it's showing at the dollar theater. It's cheap enough to go so that I can get popcorn too, and the theater is half empty. Mostly the people there are like me and just want to enjoy the show. [catdla1]
I live near the University of Oklahoma. It's an excellent college, depending on what your major is. Your name implies that you may be an artist, and you'd be interested in knowing that there are terrific artistic opportunities throughout the whole Oklahoma City Metro area. Check us out with this INFORMATION ONLY website: http://www.visitnorman.com/default.aspx Look up the OU College website if you're interest too. I moved here from Massachusetts 5 years ago, and I love it here. And not only is there a dollar theater, but not too far away there is a drive-in theater which shows 3 first-release movies for $5 per person.... [catdla1]

What really annoys me when watching a film, is when your sitting next to some one who is constantly asking you questions about the film. Like "Who's that guy", "Whats going on", "Who's that actress I swear I've seen her in another film". Oh and another think that really annoys me is when the person sitting next to you, starts to pick holes in the movie. Saying it would never happen in real life, or that the special effects are stupid. It completly ruins the whole film! [requital]
Haha, i must admit I'm also guilty of asking what movie the actress is from. It's very distracting when I know I know her from somewhere but can't figure it out where. My mother is guilty of poking holes in good films saying that's not how it is in real life. Why don't she get it that I also know it's only a movie. Ah well, thanks for your response [animegirl334]

i hate movies of stupid subjects in most of the movies there is an actor actress both love each other and get united in the end this topic is very stupid. it ruins my movie and in some movies end is not perfect such as i like tere naam hindi movie very much but the end of that movie ruined my film .in the end the actess died while the actor left mad .i hate it. [shikha_1851985]
i also hate it when they decide to kill off one of the main characters. The girl and boy fall for each other and wants to get together but never can but does in the end story line is very corny but unfortunately almost describes the entire love genre [animegirl334]

For me it is a tatted on happy ending.the movie has a great, bittersweet tone and then it switches and has a happy " feel good" ending. that drives me crazy. [sarahruthbeth22]
It can definitely throw views off when the movie suddenly switch tones. I love my happy endings but they just don't belong in some movies. Thanks for your response [animegirl334]

What ruins a good movie for me, is subtitles. I tried watching a couple of movies recently and they had them. I don't know if it was because I was distracted or what, but I ended up shutting the movie off. It also doesn't help when you are watching a movie and it gets interupted by the phone, kids, ect. [jenseyedea]
Did you watch it at the theater? If you had the DVD then you can turn the subtitles off. I also hate it when movies have subtitles. I couldn't help myself but focus my attention on them since they are there. Thanks for responding [animegirl334]

It depends where you are watching it and with whom? I used to watch movies in cinemas before the advent of home theater. When watching shows in cineplexes, what I generally dislike are lovers talking to each other. The other thing is children crying during the show.Yes, when video quality is bad, I dislike watching those shows. When I watch a movie, I do not like to be disturbed by hand-phones or some-one calling me to run an errand. [jonjee0203]
It seems like a lot of people are being disturbed by others making noise in the theater. Maybe there should be a special theater like a library where people couldn't talk when watching a movie. Thanks for your response [animegirl334]

Hello! I think when you see a movie at a younger age that is common to miss out or not fully understand parts of the movie . It is nice to watch them when we are of an older age . I have done that and wow have I missed some Key parts and some Adult parts I didnt pick up on . When I go with my one friend to the movies she always runs late and says well they have 10 mins of previews so you wont miss it and a few times we have missed first few mins of a movie . Last one was seven pounds and because of that we were lost and well you gotta see all that movie. [metschica25]
Yes, I re-watched a lot of old movies that I watched with my mother when I was younger and now I understand them a lot better. I always arrive early for movies but the previews does run for a long time. Thanks for your response [animegirl334]

I would be very disappointed whenever I have very high expectations on a movie and it fails to deliver interms of novelty, interesting screenplay and so forth.. [tskmjk55]
Sometimes I have high expectations of movies with interesting trailers. maybe the movie really wasn't that bad but it couldn't be compared to the hype it got from newspapers. thanks for your response [animegirl334]

the movie gets good, then my mom yells [tagman2]
lol Why would your mother yell? Is it like when you're watching TV and suddenly your mother loudly screams your name from the kitchen for you to go help her? Well, that's what always happen to me. I'll be forced to stop the movie and come back later. Ah, parents. Thanks for your response [animegirl334]

hi animegirl hatley here when I go with a friend who has' already seenthe movie, and she tells me how much she enjoyed 'the way it ended and then goes on to tell the ending. ggrrrrr Also if I am watching a video at home and someone in the room'insists on talking and talking to me and I am going ssh dont talk'I want to watch this.please be quiet.then they get mad.gggrrr [Hatley]
Maybe you should go with friends who haven't seen the movie yet. People like to give spoilers for some strange reason. My mother always try to talk to be when I'm on the computer watching the movie. I feel bad if I shush her but I really want to concentrate on the movie. [animegirl334]

You know that is a very very good discussion right there...For me, I dont get bummed out that much, nothing else really ruins the movie for me unless its the movie itself. An example, when I saw "The Mist". I love horror movies and horror novels and such, but the ending ruined the movie SO MUCH for me, my husband and I just stared at each other and then he said, "ok, I feel like I wanna shoot myself but since there´s no gun, why not drink lots of tequila and get drunk?" Oooooh yeah, I just thought of something... but maybe Ill make it a discussion. GREAT DISCUSSION :D [indybaty]
Thank you for the compliment. I actually liked the ending to The Mist. It was really surprising (although sad) but it was new unlike all the other endings we've seen hundreds of times. There's an alternate ending someone did on youtube with some editing of the clips. Maybe you can check it out. Thanks for your response [animegirl334]

A good movie is ruined if their are people just talking all the time or someone is on the cell phone talking. [happy6162]
Some people are just not into movies and rather talk. That shouldn't mean they could ruin the movie experience for others though. From the opinions I've gathered so far, my conclusion is movies should be something watched alone [animegirl334]

A good movie is ruined if their are people just talking all the time or someone is on the cell phone talking. [happy6162]
Yup, there has been a lot of complaints about cellphones. People take advantage of the new technologies sometimes. I would again suggest your theater play the commercial that makes fun of audiences who makes noise during the movie. I think that's one of the reason why our local theater is so quiet. [animegirl334]

When people are talking on their cell phones while the movie is playing. There's a movie theatre close to my house but people always talk on their cell phones during the movies. And downstairs it is so noisy. So I go to this other movie theatre that's hard to get to if you don't have a ride. [keon11]
People don't talk in the theaters in my area. Sometimes someone would comment on the previews but not during the movie. Maybe the people at where you live are just more friendly. [animegirl334]

A bad ending and a movie that has no plot..... I can't stand to watch movies when you don't know where it is going and I am not talking about suspense or thriller movies because I like them kind, but with no plot what's the point [hagirl]
The plot just goes off track sometimes. I don't know, maybe the script writer was being creative but it's hard to get those movies if it's even possible. Thanks for your response [animegirl334]

Sometimes time ruins a good movie. When I don't have enough time to watch it and the movie is absolutely a nice one, that I really want to enjoy but there is some urgent work and don't have tie then I feel I missed it and the good movie got ruined. Well, I never think about that because work is more important to me compare to any movie whether it is oscar winner movie or just a good story line. I watch movie just for time pass and not it is compulsaory for me. When I get bored I watch movie. [airakumar]
Maybe you should reserve some time for yourself to enjoy the really good movies. With a really good movie, and I'm serious about this, it could change your life. Some movies that did this for me is Step up, Freedom Writers, Seven Pounds and Kill Bill. If not, a decent movie is good to get rid of boredom too. Thanks for your response [animegirl334]

Little children making a lot of noise, as you said. I've had a movie experience ruined because of it. The kid kept bawling and then this other kid kept messing with the back of my chair. I was so annoying! [mymelodake]

If the sound is no good, and it's difficult to hear what the characters are saying. There is nothing that gets me more mad than when I cannot understand what the characters are saying and having a conversation about! [levyx22]

of course, bad video quality and audio quality really ruin a movie. another thing is a lovey-dovey mushy scene in a good sci-fi/action/adventure movie! i hate it when they put an angle of romance in those genres. and yes, noisy backgrounds ruin my watching mood too. and hyper little kids that don't know how to stay put in their seats. i had an experience when a kid accidentally splashed coke on my hair. and i was on a date! doh that totally ruined the mood. [secretbear]
